I am vegetarian.

As I grow older, I trust more and more my intuition and energy.

People can be deceiving. I don’t trust words as I used to.

My parents used to say that argument for me to finish my plate.

Until I found a better argument and never heard that phrase again.

Crypto

for now

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Technically, at least where I live in Canada, you have to pay taxes on crypto income and capital gains. It’s possible for goverments to track crypto transactions.

That being said, if you think normal fiat currencies are without crimes and illegal activities, you’re kinda stupid.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Yes, that’s exactly what I think too. Cryptos and blockchains are good ideas and technologies.

Once one powerful country adopts and controls it (maybe create it themselves?), I assmune many more will too.

And then, everything will use crypto.

A social app for creatives, Cara grew from 40k to 650k users in a week because artists are fed up with Meta’s AI policies | TechCrunch (techcrunch.com)

Artists have finally had enough with Meta’s predatory AI policies, but Meta’s loss is Cara’s gain. An artist-run, anti-AI social platform, Cara has grown from 40,000 to 650,000 users within the last week, catapulting it to the top of the App Store charts....

These people should create an instance on Pixelfed, a libre alternative to Instagram.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

People chose Cara because they identify with the art aspect of this social network. They don’t care if it’s anti-libre. They probably don’t even know what it means.

The purpose of a federated instance like Pixelfed is to be a blank state. You can do anything with it. Any niche. Art in this case.

The issue here is to bring these people to Pixelfed and make them feel at home within their niche.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Yes and no, you and me both value software freedom so we both understand that.

Education is obviously part of the process.

But I think most people don’t really care if libre or not. Libre or anti-libre is mostly tech jargon for non-tech people.

They just want to be part of their own communities and be where the party is.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Libre/anti-libre is one of the problem to solve.

Cara seems to be working for them and for now.

For how long? I don’t know.

Another problem is related to the instance creation, management and promotion.

From my understanding, only tech people can do that, there aren’t many companies providing those services and it’s not something average users are interested in.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Pixelfed already does support the image import from Instagram.

Mastodon doesn’t seem to support any import from Twitter/X.

I’m assuming account migration from the main social media platforms to be an important feature.

But I don’t think supporting ALL social media is realistic unless they all follow the same norms. Which I really doubt.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

I recieved today an email from Affinity saying that their whole suite of softwares is 50% off.

I’m assuming more people will be migrating to either Affinity or FOSS.

I currently use FOSS but I also really love Affinity. Especially since it’s a perpetual/lifetime license.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, Affinity was recently acquired by Canva.

We’ll see how that goes. For now, I’m using FOSS.

If the murderer thinks murdering and breaking laws is okay.

Then everybody is a potential murderer.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Is that only for Chrome or all Chromium-based browsers?

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not that simple.

I need very niche Chromium-based extensions for my work. They don’t yet exist on Firefox. Nor any replacements to my knowledge.

They aren’t ad-related, but I don’t know what’s going to happen to them.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Brave is Chromium based.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Currently, I use Brave. Not Chrome.

I have all the benefits of Chromium-based without the Google’s spyware.

I don’t see myself going back and forth between 2 web browsers. I prefer choosing one that fills everything that I need, sticking with it and moving on with my life.

But since Chromium is mostly backed by Google, I don’t know the long-term implications of using Chromium based.

thefrankring ,
@thefrankring@lemmy.world avatar

Brave isn’t perfect but seems to be my best option so far.

Most of the time, you can disable the ‘unpleasant’ stuff.

But no web browser is perfect.

Maybe Ungoogled Chromium could be good as well. But requires more tweaking and setting out of the box.
