Given how many “interpret” the Bible, you bet they can “interpret” the Constitution as well…

Yet there are white people who do own land from before 160 years ago.

Oh, right, slavery.

tb_ ,
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

I wonder why black people don’t own much land from before 160 years ago?

There are more recent reasons than native Americans explaining why black people don’t own more land.

I agree with the sentiment native American land being ancestral as opposed to “white” owned land.

So if this wholly relies on

No, it doesn’t. But you stopped watching the video.

That said, it is a legitimate argument. Just like “it’s cool to be Spider-man” is a reason to pick up Insomniac’s recent games.

SkillUp argues that in a vacuum, and for a reduced price, Skull and Bones is a decently functional game. But it doesn’t exist in a vacuum and Black Flag is better in (almost) every way.

tb_ ,
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

It’s a reasonable argument. Perhaps my initial comment was a bit mean.

What I find difficult is that it is a pirate game, very clearly. If you don’t enjoy the pirate theme, what were you expecting to get from a review like such?
Perhaps you’re a fan of naval combat. Which, fair.

Why the recent Mozilla news isn't actually a big deal

Everyone here has been overreacting about the Mozilla layoffs, but they only laid off poeple working on the metaverse, ai, and their VPN and stuff. They’re actually refocusing on Firefox. People have been freaking out about them working on ai now, too, but theyve been doing ai for a while (Mozilla common voice...

tb_ ,
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

“We’re scaling back in crowded market segments and instead focussing on AI! A totally not crowded segment.”

I would’ve actually been interested in Mozilla’s VPN/Footprint scrubbing services as a “trustworthy” company, but they’re not even available here yet and by the sound of it never will. Now instead they’ll be playing catch-up in another market.

It’s difficult to remain excited with news like this, but I want there to be alternatives to Chromium so I’ll keep using Firefox.

The iPhone 15 pro is usb 3

After the EU forced them to adopt USB C

tb_ ,
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

USB 3 wasn’t an option whilst they were sticking with lightning, and if the EU hadn’t forced them they clearly wouldn’t have switched.

The reason the new non-pro iPhones use USB 2 is because they still use the old chip which previously used lightning, and as such never had a reason to support USB 3.

So I would say this is about the connector, even though you’re technically correct that the protocol is separate from the standard.

You need to add a triple backslash, because two underscores count as cursive

The first backslash cancels out the first underscore. The second backslash cancels out the first backslash, “re-enabling” the first underscore. The third backslash then cancels the underscore out again.

  • ¯_(ツ)_/¯… : ¯_(ツ)_/¯
  • ¯\_(ツ)_/¯… : ¯*(ツ)*/¯
  • ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ : ¯_(ツ)_/¯

(Dots for alignment. The fourth backslash in the last shrug makes sure no other cursive oddities happen if you use another underscore anywhere else in your post)

EVs are cool and all, but considering their weight and cost… That’s why we need better public transport and bikes!

As well as better zoning laws to reduce travel time in certain parts of the world.

EVs are a bandaid.

You’d rather have Trump on the throne?

A vote not cast is a vote in favour of your opposition.

Sadly, in the two party system of the US, the only effective alternative vote is the one for the lesser of two evils. At least there’s a chance that one will do some things right.

Something like that. I’m not familiar with the exact details, but there is an additional layer of encryption that applies before the first unlock after a reboot.

Parts of the OS have to be unencrypted for it to function properly.

“females”

tb_ ,
@tb_@lemmy.world avatar

Calling people just “males” or “females” is a little derogatory. They’re female politicians, or they’re women. They’re not “those females over there”.

Ever since I’ve had that pointed out to me it’s become a bit of a pet peeve of mine. If we were on Reddit I’d link to r/MenAndFemales, but I don’t go to that place anymore.

Because 2023 wasn’t?

To elaborate: what Reddit did this year wasn’t enough for a (major) mass migration. I very much doubt even more ads will deter those that have stuck around so far. Perhaps there’ll be a trickle, but I don’t see anything happening like what was the case for Digg back in the day.

If you actually read the article it doesn’t seem to be about the money:

Mr Constantine said: “It was horrible. I hated it because we have a very diverse workforce and lots of people who probably wouldn’t be welcome in Russia.

“We had a partner of 20 years in Russia who never cheated, never lied, and we had to tell him we weren’t going to supply him anymore.
