Hey, y’all! Just another random, loudmouthed, opinionated, Southern-fried nerdy American living abroad.

I’m moving off kbin to lemmy, so I won’t be posting from here (unless kbin social gets it together).

Too many folks still firmly believe either:

A) “spare the rod and spoil the child”
B) I was spanked as a kid and I turned out ok, so it’s fine

He knows there’s no defending it and he’s a damn coward to boot.

Sooooo…you’re trolling, then. Good to know.

North Korea urges citizens to safeguard leader portraits from incoming typhoon | NK News (www.nknews.org)

North Korea’s top newspaper ordered citizens to prioritize protecting propaganda statues, monuments and murals of the country’s leaders from an incoming typhoon on Thursday, despite stating that nothing is more important than “the safety of the people.”...

Yeah, I didn’t notice the date until after I had posted it, since I hadn’t heard about it and the post on Mastodon I got it from was posting like it was new, so I didn’t check. By then, folks had started commenting so I left it up. Ahh, well.

Really appreciate the insults, tho.

And I’m posting from kbin, and not everything gets pulled in from lemmy communities. I checked before posting, but there wasn’t a post for me from kbin. Federation is still imperfect.

My counter to that is the last 2.5 BioWare games - I say 2.5 because Dreadwolf has been in development for ten years total now and still isn’t out. Andromeda was in development for 5 years. Anthem had money galore thrown at it until it came out. Too many devs, not just BioWare, are wasting years of development time because they haven’t got a clue what they can feasibly make then rush to get things out the door.

Instead of making excuses for why gave dev is the way it is now - a way that isn’t working - maybe look at what Larian did right and ask why more studios aren’t doing that. Early Access is normal used by indies with overinflated budgets? Well, why aren’t larger studios taking advantage of it or using systems like it?

The new normal for a have to be developed is turning into 5+ years, and there’s no excuse for the hot messes that have been coming out lately.

Did you intend to link you the video you mentioned? Because I’d like to watch it.

Thanks!

As did Supergiant, with Hades. When Early Access is used properly, it can help make a great game.

So, I see you definitely didn’t actually watch the video.

You’re right; it’s not world news. That’s why I didn’t post it in the world news community, but in the news community.

Perhaps you’d prefer to follow the world news community instead of the news one, if that’s specifically what you’re looking for?

The irony here is, this isn’t even “local news” to me - I’m not from Ohio and I haven’t lived in America for 20 years.

No, it makes perfect sense. It’s along the lines of Clarence Thomas siding with getting rid of Affirmative Action even though he was a recipient of it. It makes perfect sense once you remember conservatives think they are special, and live by “Fuck you, I got mine.” They got theirs, and they do not at all care that people coming after them can’t get the leg-up they got.

Dragon Age: Origins walked so Baldur’s Gate 3 could dash (www.techradar.com)

Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t the first successful attempt to marry cinematic aspirations with the traditional branching narratives and simulationist world-building of CRPGs. 2009’s Dragon Age: Origins had a very similar mission statement, offering a spiritual successor to BioWare’s earlier Baldur’s Gate titles long before...

What’s got me worried is how they’re basically trying to copy God of War for the combat. That kind of hack and slash gameplay is not what I want from a Dragon Age game. They’re chasing trends and that rarely goes well.

Andromeda was a mess, and not for the reasons most folks like to ding it for. It was both trying too hard (all those references to other games, like Conrad Verner’s sister and Zaaed’s son) and not trying hard enough (all the copy and paste rule of 3 quests to find three MacGuffins then SAM will figure out how to find a location for another fight).

Andromeda was frustrating because they had a lot of potential - I almost wish had had just truly been bad instead of mediocre. Mediocre is more of a letdown.

That’s a well-known and very old abbreviation for atomic bomb, tho? It’s not censoring it at all and is fairly common in headlines.
