Hey, y’all! Just another random, loudmouthed, opinionated, Southern-fried nerdy American living abroad.

I’m moving off kbin to lemmy, so I won’t be posting from here (unless kbin social gets it together).

No, they haven’t. NERV is running its own Mastodon server, but that’s not run by any government agency and is a private company.

The different prefectures are still weighing options.

Thing is, it made sense until Twitter got sold to a capricious billionaire. Twitter was very stable and their rules didn’t change much before then. The APIs made them an easy way to send out a lot of info in a popular, easily to access way. It worked well as a system for both government agencies and citizens, until Elon decided to stick his dick in it.

@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Right? They’re still using floppy disks and fax machines.

@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

It’s the second largest market after the US, but Elon cares so little about it that half the new things since they rebranded haven’t even been translated - my Twitter is in Japanese, and the new “repost” is in English, as are all the descriptions in settings.

It’s going to take a while, but they’re going to lose a lot of the Jp market at this rate.

@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

They’ve been on Mastodon for a while - since 2017. That likely made it easier for them to decide to switch over completely.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, but NERV isn’t run by the government. It’s a service run by a private company.

I really need a giant meteor to crash into the planet already.

Larian's unfair advantage (credistick.com)

This post was inspired by two things I saw recently: The connection between these two items is not obvious, but it is interesting. The lemon problem WeFunder, for the uninitiated, is a crowdfunding platform for (primarily) technology companies. It allows community-oriented startups to sell a small % of ownership to their users...

I swear, the word “clickbait” has completely lost its meaning, with the way folks throw it around like they do.

stopthatgirl7 OP ,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, that’s called a “hook,” not “click bait.” A hook is meant to, like the name suggests, hook you in. Click bait is something of low value designed just to make you click on it so you look at at ads it’s trying to feed you.

It’s the difference between “childish” and “childlike.” One is good, the other is not.

And their writing has, very unfortunately, really fallen off. Just compare Saren as a villain to, say Corypheus, or whoever that completely forgettable dude was in Anthem. Even in Andromeda, all the characters felt kinda one-note or like ME characters with the serial numbers filled off.

A prison guard says she was forced to stay at her post during labor pains. Texas is fighting compensation for her stillbirth. (www.texastribune.org)

The seven-months-pregnant officer reported contraction-like pains at work, but said she wasn’t allowed to leave for hours. The anti-abortion state is fighting her lawsuit, in part by saying her fetus didn’t clearly have rights.

The article actually talks about what it has to do with abortion in-depth.

It’s apparently about 5cm shorter, which makes sense given how they’ve reworked the internals. So “PS5 Petite” might be a better name. 🤣

Police stage 'chilling' raid on Marion County newspaper, seizing computers, records and cellphones - Kansas Reflector (kansasreflector.com)

I’d argue early game is very important, because if people are having a rough time at the start, they quit and never get to mid and end game.

Pro-Voting Groups Challenge Michigan’s Voter Transportation Ban in New Lawsuit (www.democracydocket.com)

On Friday, Aug. 11, pro-voting groups filed a lawsuit challenging a Michigan statute that makes it a misdemeanor to “hire a motor vehicle” to transport voters to the polls unless they are “physically unable to walk.” According to the lawsuit, which was filed in state court, “no other state has an equivalent...

That’s upsetting. I was never going to play Starfield, but I want games coming out to be good. We don’t need another dumpster fire like the CP2077 launch was.

Dragon Age: Origins walked so Baldur’s Gate 3 could dash (www.techradar.com)

Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t the first successful attempt to marry cinematic aspirations with the traditional branching narratives and simulationist world-building of CRPGs. 2009’s Dragon Age: Origins had a very similar mission statement, offering a spiritual successor to BioWare’s earlier Baldur’s Gate titles long before...

I remember before it came out, when they boasted that each world would be bigger than all the areas in Inquisition, and I had a sinking feeling, because Inquisition had so much bloat. Andromeda was just more for the sake of more, instead of the side missions being tight missions that gave you extra information about the lore or the world.

It reached a point where whenever I found one of these random rule of three quests in the open world where you kill random whatever enemies and SAM says you need to find more data, I would laugh and say, “welp, that’s a quest I’m never finishing!” and ignore it. I had so much better things to do with my time than drive around the world and hope to come across the next two clues that would pop up in randomly chosen spots. It was a time-waster, and Mass Effect had never had those before. So much of the game feels like it’s designed to take up time to increase play time numbers.

Dude, I heard about the bear sex scrolling on Mastodon. And then saw it again all over YouTube in thumbnails. If you follow any gaming news at all, you’re going to see stuff like this, the mildest of mild spoilers.

It was something in the marketing material. Larian put it out so people would talk about it. And look, people are talking about it!
