Ok going out on a limb here.
I know everyone process dealing and handling loss of a loved one is different and perhaps difficult to talk about.

This week my cousin died who was practically an uncle as far as age. I don’t know how many of you have traced your autistic own family tree. I’ve kind of made it a pet project.

My question is does anyone else find funeral homes so weird and 🤔 panic inducing both thinking of going and going.

@EVDHmn @actuallyautistic I dread funerals, either rolling my eyes or blotting tears.

@EVDHmn @actuallyautistic Family went another route via cremation & scattering ashes, no obits or ceremonies. Had 6 neighbors hike with me to spread partner’s ashes.

I find it extremely hard to ask for accommodations (much harder than even asking first help). Like, I don’t want to be perceived as arrogant and entitled, I don’t want to bother other people, I think other people don’t owe me anything, so I kinda don’t feel like I have a right to ask. Like, it’s my problem, I shouldn’t turn it into theirs.
I wonder how other folks feel about that. Do you think it’s something we’ve been taught?

@olena @actuallyautistic That has seemed to have been broadcast to the general population. Hope that you find accommodating people. Had a sleeping bag on the floor as the couch was taken. Hosted people when I have had a place, even junkies.

For this of us accused of buying too many - Umberto Eco was on our side:

'It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones'

I was left hundreds of book by my late partner, a school librarian & collector. Many went to her sons, libraries & friends plus my collection & books yet to read. They’re all on shelves or in cases. Still have ~1,200 and not enough time to read all the unread ones. They will all be given away.

Morning Mastodonians!

Here we are, trying to make do on a rainy Monday morning. I had a pretty good weekend. Nothing super special, but got plenty done, including finally buying a Christmas tree. It's a little short but very well-shaped. We'll decorate tonight. I did not, however, get my big project even started - cleaning out the garage. I really need to do it before the snow flies, but there's no sign of it in the 10 day, so I'm safe.

@jda @bookstodon Read The Rise & Fall … in 1965. It was much closer then, 20 years from VE Day.

Being a Jewish person on the Left who is also part of a traditional Jewish community this week reminds me of much of my life as an person.

I’m trying to make myself clear, that I value all life. All lives are divine and valuable. It doesn’t excuse people for their violent behavior. It doesn’t excuse us to wish the other to be obliterated.

I’m screaming. Begging. Pleading. Crying.

From my comrades on the Left I beg you to see that Jewish people are being attacked all over the world now. We are scared to go outside. Not only in Israel. See our humanity.

From my Jewish brothers & sisters I beg that we can see the humanity of the Palestinian people and the desires of so many around the world for their wellbeing and freedom from oppression.

No one hears. No one wants to listen. Me and others like me are doubted. Gaslit. People tell us we are exaggerating. That we are wrong. That it’s all fake.

Just like trying to explain to neurotypicals the experience of being autistic.

It’s exhausting.

@headrift @theautisticcoach @actuallyautistic @mazeldon The Mormon theocracy was weird before it arrived in Utah, still on their 1st principles out at the fringes. I arrived in ‘75, still an atheist.
Been in the Putney Vermont woods where Joseph Smith saw his Golden Plates. It was full of Amanita Muscaria. The LDS are probably not the only religion founded after eating those.

LDS polygamy included (& still does) girls as ‘sister wives’. Joseph Smith had over 40 wives. Youngest was 14.

Salt Lake City has 2 sets of ‘Lost Boys’, Somali refugee/immigrants & the excess boys from ongoing polygamy.

Asked a Tibetan friend about polyandry and she said that it exists in their culture (stateless refugee to citizen).
Polyandry meant I was a chuckhole again. Girls just liked to have fun. Lucky, found a friend in ‘76 & stayed until she died in ‘17.
