Well this is news to me. The whole thing; created by Marxists, etc, etc.

Wtf?

scorpious ,

So is it … the “whole thing”? I.e., Lemmy was invented / created / etc. by a bunch of authoritarian weirdos?

I’m guessing that the question itself reveals that I don’t even understand what Lemmy is, but hey. Any help appreciated.

scorpious ,

Honestly it just doesn’t sound like a legit app to me. Sounds like some guy’s personal project.

Calling your cool new app “TARD,” for example — and then insisting (with a straight face) that it is simply an acronym and “people should get over it” — is just being stupid and missing the entire point…while failing miserably.

scorpious ,

You start to think more and more…

No, this is what you are apparently doing. Knock it off.

This post is a rant consisting almost entirely of your own self-limiting beliefs. Got that? Beliefs. And they can change. You can change them.

scorpious ,

Gotta love this thinking here.

So tell me, should the US have stopped attacking Japan once they’d matched the ~2.4k soldiers killed at Pearl Harbor?

Or should the allies have stopped “genociding” Nazi Germany once they’d matched Hitler’s body count?

OF COURSE NOT. This isn’t about tit for tat. Especially when going after an enemy that is openly committee to your annihilation. Israel certainly appears to be doing a shit job of it, but there is no need to muddy the waters with specious arguments.

You can also run a spoon under hot water for a more improv tool. Works great.

Learning to distinguished between what actually happened and the narratives my mind has about what happened.

scorpious ,

I was once stopped at a red light waiting to turn right. I glanced left, saw it clear, and started moving forward…but a tattered, sunburnt dude in a wheelchair had appeared out of nowhere and tried to cross in front of me.

I stopped in time, didn’t hit him, but must’ve scared him (or something), ‘cause he lost his fucking mind and started shrieking bloody murder, backed up a bit and started CLAWING at the passenger side window — not trying to open the door, just clawing, freaking my friend the fuck out — and screamed (exact quote), “I’LL KILL YOU, YOU MISERABLE BASTARD!!!”

scorpious ,

when nessa

Omg, thanks I hate it…is this a thing? I mean I might love it, not sure yet.

scorpious ,

Love it. Thanks!

scorpious ,

For example, if someone hits you with their car? It’s ok to scratch it.

Are you 12?

Or do you just see every unfortunate occurrence as personal victimization?

Honestly curious and hoping for serious replies:

What do trans people think about the possibility of a child or preteen “getting it wrong”? Ie, maturing into an adult that realizes/decides that they actually want to live out their life as initially assigned at birth?

Note: I know so little that I’m actually not sure if this question itself is massively offensive or not…if so, sincere apologies. Just want to learn more about this and stop imagining things!

scorpious ,

Thank you! Much appreciated.

It’s actually someone experiencing homelessness.

The (good, imho) reason is that “homeless” can quickly become a defining label when used to describe an individual, when what we are after is really just a description of someone’s current circumstance.

So the new wording is simply more accurate.

scorpious ,

I work with a nonprofit that works closely with children in this circumstance, and yes, it does make a huge difference to the individuals involved.

Having it be understood and acknowledged that this is something we are going through, and not who we are gives a healthy framing for families to lift themselves up…and not be “homeless people.”

scorpious ,

It’s just the rise of loud, groupthink edgelords, refusing to think past a hyper-emotional brainwash.

scorpious ,

My understanding is that even after Hiroshima, the Imperial Army attempted a coup to avoid surrender.

The Japanese were not stopping. The only alternative at hand was a full invasion, which would have killed many, many more.

scorpious ,

Good luck. You’re going to get nothing but “popular = bad” here.

Some great advice here already! So I’m going to suggest something novel:

Consider “settling,” just a tiny bit. What I mean is, don’t be so quick to assess someone new as A Partner…potential or otherwise. Try letting gals in who are attractive enough and carry themselves well, seem sane, easy going, smart, etc. Shared values, that sort of thing. A female friend with potential, if you will. See where it goes; be open to being surprised, pleasantly or otherwise.

I’ve seen so many younger men “auditioning” mates with unrealistic expectations about “clicking” or “just knowing” — and winding up as older bachelors who have never even had a chance to practice being in a relationship.

Yes, like literally anything else worth doing/having, it takes practice!

Unless your tap water is unusually, ridiculously pure, please at least use filtered water. Snorting bacteria directly into your sinuses can end very badly.

Canadian photographer Francois Brunell searches and photographs similar people, but who are not related to each other. He has currently done about 200 couple portraits.

Canadian photographer Francois Brunelle spent 12 years tracking down real life Doppelgängers — two individuals who are not related but could pass for identical twins — and photographing them. He calls his project “I’m Not a Look-Alike,” and it’s starting to get some well-deserved attention....

There’s also my press, “my pleasure,” or “glad I could help !” (If I mean it!)

scorpious ,

I think the flaw here is seeking validation from anonymous strangers…?

scorpious ,

Even while people are alive, a huge proportion of our full experience of them involves expectations, assumptions, recollection, expectation…in addition to direct interaction.

Post-life, we mist remove the direct interaction, but the rest remains. Talk away!

The disproportionate representation of hyper-reactive, hive-mind edgelords is vomitous, but overall entertaining and cool.

scorpious ,

Wat

scorpious ,

But the suicide part … that confirmed as well?

Honestly don’t know, just surprised to read that.

scorpious ,

To be fair

NO! No fair.

I delivered a season of 4k animations for a network show using Motion, AE, C4D, Ps, AI…all using a base model M1 Mini (8/256), with zero problems.

Of course more would be better, but unless you’ve actually used one, it’s hard to imagine how well it works. I tried mentioning this in another post, but it’s all Apple hate all the way down here

scorpious ,

To be fair, M-series Macs are pretty insanely efficient with memory. Unless you’ve actually used one extensively, I can understand the attitudes here…BUT:

I’ve done broadcast animation for many years, and back in ‘21 delivered an entire season of info/explainer-type pieces for a network show — using Motion, Cinema 4D, and After Effects (+ Ai and Ps) — all of it running on a base-level, first-gen M1 Mini (8/256). Workflow was fast and smooth; even left memory-pig apps running in the background most of the time…not one hiccup. Oh, and everything was delivered in 4k.

So 8gb actually is plenty for most folks…even professionals doing some heavy lifting. Sure I’d go for 16 next one, but damn I was/am still impressed. (Maybe it sucks for gaming, I don’t do that so have no clue).

scorpious ,

…And yet…?

My point is that while of course more is better, 8 sufficed for me…a professional, doing demanding…professional…work.

scorpious ,

Point taken! Clearly more is always better. Don’t have any experience with the M2 or 3.

I’m just adding a personal experience with having the minimum be plenty to get big jobs done.

scorpious ,

Can’t help but think that the all-too prevalent (here, at least) attitude that one shouldn’t have to pay anything, or very, very little, for quality content has a lot to do with it.

scorpious ,

Do the journalists (and researchers, editors, verifying staff, etc.) all work for free?

Am I a coffee heathen?

So back when I was first living on my own. I of course had no money and I still needed coffee. So I just started doing what I would call cowboy coffee. Where the hot water and grounds are just combined. Then the grounds settle to the bottom. I have had a number of people find this quite uncouth and have tried to make me change....

scorpious ,

No, you are a coffee madlad and a hero in my eyes.

Israeli troops shoot and kill a Palestinian shepherd reading the Quran on his land (www.haaretz.com)

Three soldiers pounce on a shepherd sitting outside his sheep pen. They knock him over and then one of them shoots him to death at point-blank range. Fakher Jaber, a father of four, was suspected of involvement in an incident that probably never happened...

scorpious ,

I’ll pretend this is an honest inquiry.

They relate, directly, because what is happening now is that Israel is attempting to eradicate and eliminate Hamas, once and for all.

The problems people have with “proportionality” collapse under any scrutiny… Should the US have stopped attacking Japan once we reached the total number of servicemen killed at Pearl Harbor? Or the allies stop once a “proportionate” number of Germans had died?

No, obviously, because these were enemies openly dedicated to taking over and/or wiping out whole populations. Were innocent civilians killed in the process? Certainly. Is Hamas deliberately seeing to it that civilians are used as defense and propaganda sacrificial la,bs? Unquestionably.

Finally, Hamas could end hostilities today by returning all hostages and surrendering its leaders to an international court. But the PR game is wildly successful, especially among this crowd, so why would they ever?
