“It’s not official government policy to kill Palestinians. It’s official government policy that they all have to ‘leave voluntarily’, it’s official government policy to be looking for places for them to go, and it’s official government policy not to ask what happens if Palestinians fail to ‘leave voluntarily’, but it’s not a genocide because during the killing no one said ‘I’m doing this very genocidally’.”

and Germany did that one thing…what was that again?

“Everything is so bad. Yet they set nothing on fire? How do they expect to fix?” —some twitter lady’s french husband, commenting on the state of American politics

reverendsteveii ,

fair, but we only set things on fire if the local american football team wins. or loses. or ties. or the game is cancelled. or at parades.

what’s wild is that we party like the french protest but we don’t really protest.

reverendsteveii ,

the west bank, by the way, not gaza. a place where hamas has never been in charge.

reverendsteveii ,

you dropped your /s

reverendsteveii ,

if it’s antisemitic to say that Israel thinks of Gazans as less than human then I’ve got a bunch of tweets from a bunch of antisemitic high ranking members of the Israeli government.

Then again, it would be antisemitic to fund Hamas and kill Israeli hostages but the IDF does that, so maybe…

reverendsteveii ,

yes. there are myriad ways that copyright law is broken and stupid, but protecting the creations of independent artists isn’t one of them

take this bullshit back to reddit

reverendsteveii ,

this is because the technocrats are allowed to steal from you, but when you steal from them what they’ve stolen from actual researchers that’s a problem

reverendsteveii ,

These games are tagged capitalism, but they use this wild version of capitalism where the person doing the work gets to keep the value their work creates. I think there’s a name for that…

reverendsteveii ,

idk, space warlord organ trading simulator seems pretty spot on for late capitalism

reverendsteveii ,

why would they be exposed to the internet?

to be able to get information about new parts or procedures, or updated information from the device manufacturer or the manufacturers of the parts the device is designed to interact with.

reverendsteveii ,

putting together a WAN with your vendors would be a great big old thing. I suppose you could figure out some way to pull vendor patches and updated specs into your LAN via a single point of entry as well.

reverendsteveii ,

if it’s impossible for you to have something without breaking the law you have to do without it

if it’s impossible for the artistocrat class to have something without breaking the law, we change or ignore the law

Volkswagen says it’s putting ChatGPT in its cars for “enriching conversations”::Volkswagen is putting ChatGPT into its cars starting in the second quarter of 2024. The feature is being considered for the US, but plans have yet to be finalized.

you could parse it as the even less generous “I’m not gonna to blame anyone for wanting to read that article.”

reverendsteveii ,

I’m sorry you’re eating downvotes but this is the absolute truth in a lot of cases. I put in 18 years at various restaurants, worked every position except manager. I’ve never needed a drug test to get a job, and every job I ever had in that industry people were definitely on drugs at work, but drug tests are mandatory after a workplace injury. The reason being they don’t actually care whether you’re high at work but they can use the fact that almost everyone in a restaurant is high in order to cut costs under the guise of “workplace safety”.

reverendsteveii ,

but thanks to decades of war on drugs propaganda, if you smoke a joint on the weekend you’re a bad and dangerous person and it’s not just acceptable but incumbent upon Real God-Fearing Americans©™® to hurt you however they can.

reverendsteveii ,

lol I worked at a place whose name rhymes with “Sad Tex” because they’re called Mad Mex where the cooks were literally hitting the bowl on the line and blowing it into the hoods

Israel, Egypt and the United States would work together on ways to secure the porous border between Egypt and Gaza - something that would involve solving the problem of tunnels once and for all.

Good to know that Bibi has a plan for my tax money. I wonder if he’s had lunch yet or if he expects me to buy that for him too.

congress can decide by a 2/3 majority that his insurrection doesn’t bar him from running. it’s in the constitution. failure to pass that resolution is congress deciding that his insurrection counts and he’s disqualified.

reverendsteveii ,

do it then, just like the impeachment. quit bitching and do something so we can put you down again you fucking cowards.

“users negligently recycled and failed to update their passwords following these past security incidents, which are unrelated to 23andMe…Therefore, the incident was not a result of 23andMe’s alleged failure to maintain reasonable security measures,”

This is a failure to design securely. Breaking into one account via cred stuffing should give you access to one account’s data, but because of their poor design hackers were able to leverage 14,000 compromised accounts into 500x that much data. What that tells me is that, by design, every account on 23andMe has access to the confidential data of many, many other accounts.

the names will come out, people will make a big deal for a couple days, the authorities in charge will go “now now, you’ve got to understand”, then people will move on to the next thing and the people in charge will go back to very publicly fucking children.

Germany mulls reintroduction of compulsory military service (www.dw.com)

At the end of October, the Bundeswehr said it counted 181,383 soldiers in its ranks — that’s still some distance from the target of 203,000 that the German military hopes to reach by 2025. This has given rise to concern in times of Russia’s war against Ukraine, which has once again reminded Germans how quickly conflicts...

the return of slave armies is a sign that capitalism is healthy and working as expected

scotus decides what the constitution means, though. and they’ll decide it doesn’t mean this, because they’re openly corrupt, bought and paid for with receipts.

reverendsteveii ,

we can’t ignore the law just because they will. we can’t fail to act in good faith just because they will act in bad faith. we can’t negotiate with domestic terrorists.

reverendsteveii ,

they do tend to get upset when the law is applied equally without fear or favor, yeah

reverendsteveii ,

they act as though as long as we give in to their demands the republicans will be reasonable and keep their promises. they won’t. they’re gonna press their political advantage by any means they can find, be it legal, extralegal, or just out and out terrorism and if we concede anything to them they’ll just have more leverage by which to bypass or end american democracy in their quest for full autocratic power.

so this person was swatted by their psychologist. the psychologist called the police and lied to get this person raided. that’s swatting.

had a similar experience a while back. our local pizza place was closed, so we ordered from pizza hut. twice as expensive for a shit pizza with a cardboard crust and boneless wings that were clearly pre-cooked frozen chicken that had been microwaved for a bit and then, rather than being tossed in sauce, were just put in a togo container and allowed to sit in the sauce. I’ll literally go to bed hungry before I buy another crumb of food from pizza hut.

Can I give you medical advice and call myself a doctor if I’m not licensed?

Okay, but there’s a difference between trying to run an unlicensed practice and just talking shit on the internet.

At what point does the Foreign Assistance Act’s ban on sending aid to countries in violation of human rights standards come into play?

when it’s politically convenient and not a moment before

    reverendsteveii ,

fun fact about prohibition: it’s harder for kids to get booze than it is other drugs because the booze guy has motivation to weed out underage customers whereas the coke guy goes to the same prison for selling to adults as he does for selling to 8 year olds. I was able to get weed, coke and dope in high school pretty easily.

    lift reporting restrictions

bad angle shot: we’re gonna know who this is when two children who knew Ghey disappear, and the idea that children can just be disappeared by the government without any transparency scares the shit out of me. I really hope they allow these kids and their (well-deserved) fate to be entered into the public record. I understand anonymity to protect people who’ve not been convicted of a crime but now that we know that they gleefully conspired to brutally murder someone just because they thought they could get away with it and wanted to know what it felt like, what are we actually protecting?

    reverendsteveii ,

that’s the thing, the article says that at sentencing the judge “would decide whether to lift reporting restrictions so that the killers could be named.”

That implies that people can be arrested, charged, tried, sentenced and imprisoned, potentially for their whole lives, under a veil of secrecy. That’s gross and scary.

    reverendsteveii ,

that’s what the article seems to imply, and that’s the scary part, but I’m not a lawyer and I’m certainly not a british lawyer so idk if there’s some statute somewhere that says this all becomes public when they reach the age of majority or some other protection in place.

Minnesota panel chooses new state flag featuring North Star to replace old flag seen as racist (apnews.com)

Minnesota’s new state flag should feature an eight-pointed North Star against a dark blue background shaped like the state, with a solid light blue field at the right, a special commission decided Tuesday as it picked a replacement for an older design that many Native Americans considered offensive....

    reverendsteveii ,

There really isn’t any “before all that” though. Especially that far west. Along the east coast there might have been a generation of “we just want to escape weligious pewsecution and gwow cown uwu 👉👈🥺” but the first permanent settlement in Minnesota was in 1852, 7 years after the phrase “manifest destiny” was coined. Minnesota was established during the era where the prevailing belief of white Americans was that God commanded them to take all of America for themselves and anyone who tried to stop them was to be destroyed.
