I really want X.org to get some massive compensation for Elon’s theft of their logo.

realitista ,

My understanding is that Ukraine hasn’t yet drawn on any of it’s lend lease grants which IIRC are around $7b, so maybe that can plug the gap?

realitista ,

Ha ha, joke’s on them. It’s the only wireless charger I’ve found that doesn’t work with my case on so I never use it!

realitista ,

Shit. Fucking fascists everywhere these days.

realitista ,

Fascist and dictator/oligarch are not mutually exclusive. If anything they are mutually reinforcing.

realitista ,

Shit like this isn’t world news, it’s local news. I don’t need to hear about every stabbing in the whole world.

realitista ,

I think there’s a few of them but they are highly vocal and unhinged. I only had to block 2 of them, and things seem pretty okay right now.

realitista ,

Yes, this exactly. I’ve had to block 2 of them and everything’s been smooth sailing since.

realitista ,

I debated it for quite a while because they were legitimately trying to have conversations, but they were tankies and rather aggressive. Finally just pulled the trigger and I’m happy I did.

realitista ,

It’s because they got all the worms

realitista ,

Yes this is me. Morning is just to figure out what the hell is going on, avoid anything that requires brain power until the system spins up around noon.

realitista ,

I would care if I used Reddit, but I don’t.

What will be the new name for Glassholes in the Meta era?

realitista ,

The thing I don’t get out of this is how the government of that town can’t afford a couple of those little road blocking signs.

realitista ,

Amazon is just barely holding on in my streaming stable, this will be enough to push it out.

realitista ,

Yea but it’s not the case today. I get as good or better results out of duck duck go, and bing is good too now. The only reason to continue using Google is if you love ads.

realitista ,

Interesting. There was a time when I noticed that DDG didn’t scan as often and so wouldn’t have the very latest news, but now they are functionally identical to me. If I don’t find something on one, I’m pretty surprised how I don’t find it in more or less the same way on the others

realitista ,

Yeah he just says this shit to stay in the news cycle.

realitista ,

After all this would there really be any reason to use them especially when Unreal has just been crushing it lately with lumen, nanite, etc.

realitista ,

Yeah I’d go for an open source printer in a heartbeat. I’m so tired of this nonsense.

Most hilarious is adding USB-C, announcing lightning 5 and then keeping the transfer rate at USB 2.0 speeds.

realitista ,

This will be tough when the USB interface is still using USB 2.0.

realitista ,

All phone models for the last many years from them have USB 3.

The Batshit Crazy Story Of The Day Elon Musk Decided To Personally Rip Servers Out Of A Sacramento Data Center (www.techdirt.com)

Back on Christmas Eve of last year there were some reports that Elon Musk was in the process of shutting down Twitter’s Sacramento data center. In that article, a number of ex-Twitter employees wer…

I sold my Tesla stock that I had held for many years not long after he took over Twitter.

realitista , (edited )

I meant to write “after he took over Twitter”. Fixed.

realitista ,

I don’t want to pay for 300gb of overpriced iCloud storage. That’s the use case.

realitista ,

It’s to force people to pay for iCloud storage rather than keep files locally on their PC. That, and nothing else. No other phone in this price range still has USB 2.0, and most haven’t for a very long time.

realitista ,

Man I tried wifi syncing for quite a while and had nothing but problems with it. It was a disaster.

realitista ,

I struggled with iOS’ Wi-Fi syncing for almost a year before giving up on it. It was garbage (probably also by design to try to force me to pay for overpriced iCloud storage). My use case is to sync photos to the desktop photos app and music to the desktop music app.

realitista ,

Looks very nice. Maybe I will have to try it sometime.

Fortunately my use case doesn’t require frequent syncing, so once every 2-3 months just plugging my phone in when I know I’ll be at my desk at home for a while is enough. It’s shitty but it gets the job done that I need. I always prefer to stick to the native tools where possible just to stay compliant with whatever changes may come in the future.

realitista ,

Lol, the iPhone 15 will get USB 2.0 like the rest of them.

realitista ,

It is a purely logical conclusion if Apple actually wanted to make this feature good like the rest of its competitors who have been giving usb 3.0 on their phones for more than a decade already. But Apple needs to milk us for more iCloud revenue, so this probably never will happen.

Local governments aren't businesses – so why are they force-fed business software? - Oracle's repeated public sector failures prove a different approach is needed (www.theregister.com)

Local governments aren’t businesses – so why are they force-fed business software? - Oracle’s repeated public sector failures prove a different approach is needed::Oracle’s repeated public sector failures prove a different approach is needed

realitista ,

C’mon, Oracle’s business tools don’t just fail in government, they fail in business too… So at least it’s an on par performance.

realitista ,

Unless you are a completist who’s willing to sit through the less than good episodes, you may want to use an episode guide such as this one which I found useful when I went back to rewatch it. Yes Q is kind of annoying, that’s actually his character and how everyone in the show feels about him too. But there are also some fantastic episodes with him, so once you get to those, you may not hate his presence as much.

realitista ,

As someone who started his tech career in the mid '90s, this kind of hurts to see put into words so well.

realitista ,
realitista ,

I like that we got the whole history of how it got there too.

Streaming Has Reached Its Sad, Predictable Fate | What should I watch? is now a much easier question than How do I watch it?::What should I watch? is now a much easier question than How do I watch it?

realitista ,

I’ll pay for a few streaming services that can keep something I want to watch in stock year around. For the ones that can’t, their shows go onto a seedbox with plex and sonarr.

My reddit web viewer still works! Story: When reddit killed 3rd party apps, I uploaded a web viewer I have been using for myself to Github pages for everyone to use... (rdx.overdevs.com)

I posted about that here and forgot < lemmy.world/post/896361> but today when I checked cloudflare analytics it showed about 1000 pageviews in last 24 hours. Looks like some people are using it so just wanted to let you guys know that it works, no ads. no popups nothing.

realitista , (edited )

I use lemmit. That way the reddit content comes here to Lemmy, and I have everything I want here in one place. I just started using a browser plugin to redirect any links that direct to reddit from lemmit to direct to RDX instead. This was only an issue with some videos and stuff that were hosted on reddit, normal links would skip reddit completely by default with lemmit. Now with RDX, I can really avoid reddit altogether!

realitista ,

Maybe too good to be true, but I’ll ride that train to the end of the line! As for comments, it’s not possible, and anyway, I think it’s better to start our own conversations here.

realitista ,

While you wait, I’ve found a solution which works perfectly for me. I use the firefox extension Redirector with these settings. Now I don’t have to ignore every video on lemmit that’s hosted on Reddit because I don’t want to give them pageviews, I can just watch them on RDX instead! get all the Reddit content I want without ever actually visiting Reddit.

Lemmy probably feels like Reddit when it first started, all warm cuddly and friendly to newcomers eager to discuss and collaborate around central topics.

I joined reddit on the tailwind, so it was all echo chamber, we hate newcomers, gatekeeping, automod frenzy, too many rulebreakers, too many rules, etc I could be wrong, but thats what I imagine it used to be like.

realitista ,

I was user 2600 or so on Reddit, and yes indeed it does. I just love this size. When I compare the content here and on Reddit, for me it’s a world away now. The vast majority of things on here are relevant and interesting to me compared to reddit where it’s all just low effort garbage and reposts.

realitista ,

This is exactly how Reddit started too. It was the digg migration that brought in all the normies.

realitista ,

Digg collapse was very similar. Digg was very clearly the “winner” at that time in terms of user numbers, but killed themselves in a very similar way as Reddit does now.
