A simpler time where every god damn thing wasn’t computerized and generating metrics to track every aspect of your life.

lightnsfw ,

The 70s were a different time.

lightnsfw ,

I agree honestly never had a problem with metrics myself but now that I have reports and a lot of them can’t get their shit together it makes it more frustrating to see every little thing they’re fucking up. It’d be so much easier if it was just a matter of “did we get everything done?” at the end of the day.

Mostly I’m just venting. Maybe I should just take their computers away…

lightnsfw ,

Ignoring what we’re fighting about, just think of what you said there. You are saying (correct me if I’m wrong) that we should just not allow people with opinions that contradict you to not have any power

No one should be basing policy decisions on opinions anyway. Those should be based off facts and data.

lightnsfw ,

I’m not sure “people who see ads on Reddit” is a demographic we should be trying to get on here.

lightnsfw ,

I’ve spent a decent amount of time around about a dozen pit bulls and never saw/heard of any issues with any of them. All but 1 were very sweet dogs and even he wasn’t being aggressive beyond making it clear that I was not to enter the property (growling and barking same as many other dogs would do) when we first met. After his owner showed up and we got acquainted with each other he was fine too. On the other hand I’ve been bitten by half the dachshunds I’ve met.

lightnsfw ,

“Wow I just really feel like being a garbage man today!” … said no one ever.

lightnsfw ,

It’s a good step. You need something else to trade if the guy that raises chickens needs medicine and the pharmacist doesn’t want chicken products.

lightnsfw ,

I don’t have enough free time to relax without chemical assistance.

lightnsfw ,

It’s literally not. It takes me a few hours to stop thinking about work shit and everything else I have to do and I don’t have that long at the end of the day. I didn’t say I drink every day or even every week. I wouldn’t even say I have a drinking problem. Most days I just sit around being still stressed out for an hour or so after I get all my shit done and then go to bed. You don’t know shit about me so keep your platitudes to yourself.

lightnsfw ,

I know how to break out of those thought patterns. The problem is, like I already said, it takes longer to do than I have time for. It’s not like there’s a switch I can flip off.

I’m going to be fucked long term regardless of what I do anyway because the society we’ve constructed is fucked and built around continuously making everything worse.

lightnsfw ,

I’m the healthiest person I know and it’s not even close. I don’t have time because I work 9-10 hours a day, then have to exercise, feed myself, clean up, do whatever other shit needs doing, prepare for the next day, and sleep for 7-8 hours. This leaves ~1-1.5 hours to “relax”. That’s not enough time to clear my head let alone actually do something relaxing.

lightnsfw ,

I think you are ignoring the very important fact that Gundams are dope.

lightnsfw ,

Is it not free? I didn’t pay anything when I used it last year.

lightnsfw ,

I’ll look at the paperwork again, I definitely didn’t see anything about any charges and I did federal and 2 states. It prompted me a few times to go up to the paid tier but I declined it. I didn’t get enough of a return for them to take out of.

lightnsfw ,

Hard disagree. Having everything in one browser app and switching between tabs is much faster than switching apps. If it’s something that does more heavy lifting like a game or file browser or something sure it makes sense to have an app but just consuming content can be done in a browser just as easily.

lightnsfw ,

I’m still using mine because of that.

lightnsfw ,

What phone in the last 5 years had both those? I’ve been looking to upgrade my V20 and haven’t seen one that fits the bill.

lightnsfw ,

How do you charge the phone while using that?

lightnsfw ,

like 95% of my headphone usage is at my desk at work.

lightnsfw ,

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll take a look.

lightnsfw ,

No, everything is blocked on our work computers and they encrypt removable storage devices when you plug them in so can’t bring media from home either. Just easier to use the phone.

lightnsfw ,

I don’t hate bluetooth. I hate not having the headphone jack. Bluetooth headphones are nice but don’t cover all use cases. It doesn’t have to be a one or the other thing. Especially when they aren’t adding anything additional on the phones that don’t have a headphone jack. They’re just cutting features. The phones aren’t even cheaper for it.

Not if it’s spying on me for google I won’t

Can ipads access smb shares without having to buy an app yet? That was always the deal breaker for me

Good to know.

Ruby Franke formally charged with 6 counts of felony child abuse (www.nbcnews.com)

Ruby Franke, the mother of six behind the family YouTube channel “8 Passengers,” has been charged with six counts of felony child abuse by the Washington County Attorney in Utah, a spokesperson for the attorney’s office confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday....

lightnsfw ,

Missing one lunch is hardly abuse. I forgot to grab my lunch on many occasions when I was a kid and nobody even called my parents about it. I was fine.

That doesn’t make her not a bad parent for all the other shit she did but if it was just this one thing it wouldn’t be that bad.

lightnsfw ,

Roughly, and my parents worked an hour away from the school too so it’s not like they could have brought me a lunch in time anyway if they’d been notified.

lightnsfw ,

Their parents should fucking parent them then. If my parents didn’t want me exposed to something they didn’t let me have it. Stop giving your kids mobile devices and letting them loose on the internet and maybe they won’t turn out so fucked up.

No Star Trek is in the future. That’s why all the technology and shit is different.

    Yea that’s what I’m saying…

My Honda Civic is 12 years old. I just put new shocks and tires on and it feels like it’s brand new. The thing is rock solid. It’s needed very little work beyond maintenance for normal wear and tear.

    lightnsfw ,

Some are definitely more good or bad in general than others.

    lightnsfw ,

    ~ $200

I think there’s a sweet spot in terms of population lemmy hasn’t reached yet. Reddit has surpassed it long ago and is now shit due to too many people.

    lightnsfw ,

I literally could not understand what half the ones I saw were even supposed to be about last time I went on YouTube. Like they were just random people doing shit with no punchline or point.

    lightnsfw ,

I figured they were just ripping off tiktok seems to be the same kind of shit.

    lightnsfw ,

Better than having it locked on I suppose…

Fatal shooting of University of South Carolina student who tried to enter wrong home 'justifiable,' police say (www.nbcnews.com)

The homeowner who fatally shot a 20-year-old University of South Carolina student who tried to enter the wrong home on the street he lived on Saturday morning will not face charges because the incident was deemed “a justifiable homicide” under state law, Columbia police announced Wednesday....

    lightnsfw ,

    Violence is the line.

    lightnsfw ,

People don’t just drop when they get stabbed and a stronger person can pretty easily take a knife from a weaker one. If you’re trying to defend yourself from a real attacker with a knife you’re probably going to have a bad time.

    lightnsfw ,

There’s nothing in the article about if there were words exchanged or not. It does say that there was audio and video evidence that was reviewed during the investigation so it’s possible they did try yelling at him. I think that’s something most people would do in a situation like this.

No one should be expected to flee their own home.

Warning shots are inadvisable because you are responsible for where those shots land and it removes the “I feared for my life” justification in the eyes of the law. If you fired a warning shot and accidentally hit the intruder Or someone else you would be charged for that.

The intruder was shot in the chest through a window so we can assume he was visible.

    lightnsfw ,

    Of course not.

    lightnsfw ,

Can you find one state where warning shots are legal? I just spent ~20 minutes looking and couldn’t find a source that supports them being advisable at all let alone legal.

As for deescalating, I don’t believe anyone should have to deescalate when someone forces their way into their home. The front door is your last line of defense.
