China’s quest for human genetic data spurs fears of a DNA arms race (www.washingtonpost.com)

Most of Europe was in lockdown in April 2020 when a plane arrived in the Serbian capital bearing a well-timed gift from the People’s Republic of China. Inside was a Chinese invention called the Fire-Eye, a sophisticated portable lab that could detect coronavirus infections from tiny genetic fragments the pathogen leaves...

He’s always been a bit of an environmentalist, he just goes about it in weird ways. For example, he proposed congestion pricing in NYC to curb pollution

I didn’t know it came in liquid form

jeffw OP ,
@jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

I have never altered a headline before, but felt the need to do it with this because of the kilo thing (I put my addition in brackets). Yes, fent is insanely strong. By weight it is way more powerful than most opiates. A kilo is fucking insane

Seems like the boyfriend moved in and brought his operation with him. That makes the most sense to me

I’m not going on the lam if I get caught smoking weed lol. I’m pretty sure there’s data to back that up

Yeah, someone else on this thread implied people defederate because they can’t tolerate “nuanced opinions,” when in fact it’s usually ignorant or thinly veiled hate speech. In reality, almost every defederation I’ve seen is to stop an influx of hateful and/or illegal (eg CSAM) content

I think this also speaks to an issue around suicide. I used to work in behavioral healthcare and “suicide” is a similar issue. There’s a lot of debate around “commit suicide,” since it sort of blames the person and not the illness.

It’s hard to frame these conversations around cause of death in certain situations.

Dude left a guy on the tracks… even if that was… somehow an innocent mistake, someone could have died (and almost did die)

@jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

Just for the sake of clarification, the reason I’m posting this here has nothing to do with the fact that the actor/writer is trans. Just thought the headline was oniony

Ngl, I read that he was the thing you were “least” (not “last”) proud of and I was gonna say, there’s a lot worse from Ohio lol

You’d be surprised how many people care about things like sexual assault victims or simply celeb gossip. Either category, there’s lots of people who care.

I mean… probably. He was in a high-security prison with lots of surveillance. Was he intimidated into doing so? Who knows. It’s pretty dumb that he was on a 24/7 suicide watch and people got lax about it.

I don’t think I’d want to do a PhD because it’s too much work. I just like studying and learning, not writing a fuckin dissertation.

I’d just stay in school forever and learn about everything

Not sure why you’re all over this thread insulting me? As I said elsewhere, I already tried to call and return it and they didn’t buy my story over the phone

Escalated it and nothing really came of it. Nobody could help, really.

I’ve worked customer service jobs, not sure what your comment means. Ofc I’m not gonna be rude to the random GameStop employee on the phone?

jeffw OP ,
@jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

I’m sorry, I think something I said must have been misinterpreted? Am I not supposed to reply to people in my post lol? People told me to call them, so I told people that I already called them. Do you have any other suggestions?
