Huge Danganronpa fan actually, but I’ve played them all on other systems. I’ve somehow played P3 and P5 without P4, so thats a great recommendation!

I would NEVER buy a vita just to unlock it and play the Tales of Innocence English Patch. Idk what you’re talking about, piracy is illegal!!!1 And what sort of loser drunkenly impulse purchases a video game system on eBay because they want to play one game?

edit: if you are reading this, you definitely shouldn’t buy an SD2Vita card for a dollar on AliExpress, which is like 1/10th the price of Amazon and the exact same product. Just like you should never engage in piracy!

I see Ys mentioned a lot! I’m a casual JRPG fan (played Persona 3, 5, maybe half the Tales games, maybe 3-4 FF games, Xenoblade trilogy, Bravely Default + both sequels, 2 or 3 Dragon Quest games, and probably a handful of others). Anything in particular that you’d compare Ys with? And do you recommend I play it in any specific order? I skimmed the site and it looks like they’re all connected, although not in order, which makes me think of MGS.

Actually got into Danganronpa because I wanted to find something like Zero Escape lol… but it is a great series!

How accurate of an answer do you need? I have an engineering minor and didn’t do much with fluid dynamics, but I know some general basic info

    The “Gilded Age” was a term coined by Mark Twain, a satirist. It wasn’t a good time. So I’m not 100% sure which direction you’re going with this

    Edit: for clarification, Twain meant that a thin veneer hid all the terrible shit underneath (wealth disparities, political corruption, etc)

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    The British Anthem is “God Save Nestle,” the Spanish anthem has words again, and America has not changed at all

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    Where did you get that definition?

    en.m.wikipedia.org/…/Gilded_Age_(disambiguation)

    The term is a term used by US Historians and coined by Twain. The point is that everyday folks didn’t get a chance, just the ultra-wealthy.

    It was named after an 1873 Mark Twain novel by historians in the 1920s who saw this interval of economic expansion as an era of materialistic excesses combined with political corruption.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    I’m just confused? No need to be aggressive about it. Are you just making up your own definition for existing terms? That’s just not really how language works, since it’s based on a mutual understanding of what words and phrases mean.

    The only issue I’d see is that there ambiguity as to whether it’s a date or just shopping with a friend. But that happens with a lot of dates unless you’re doing something classic like asking them to dinner, which isn’t always the most exciting date

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    It’s true, at worst you get a friend, but I do think your perception going into something can shape an experience. I’m not gonna sit here and say stuff like that”you’ll get stuck in the friend zone” and other incel bs, but I do think expectations matter.

    People keep saying it’s a “ban,” when it’s really going to end up as a forced sale.

    Pornhub shuts down in Texas... and predictably, VPNs benefit (mashable.com)

    From the article: “Unsurprisingly, this skyrocketed searches for the best VPNs. According to a SlashGear report sent to Mashable, searches for “Texas VPN” jumped by 1,750 percent in the past day. It also spotted a 1,600 percent increase for the phrase “How to access Pornhub.””

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    What if it was just lobbying from the VPN industry this whole time?

    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    If I hated someone and was also going to kill myself, I’d probably say something like this before I did it. Just sayin. Sometimes the simplest explanation is the real one.

    Conspiracies that involve large groups of people, like the entire C-suite at Boeing, generally don’t work out. It would have to be a personal grudge, not a corporate move

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    I have a couple thoughts on this. First, if the adults are guilty and the courts accepted the argument that they neglected to give the child the help he needed, why is the child serving a life sentence? The article makes it sound like he wanted help and knew he needed it.

    Also, I thought I read that the parents had not just left the weapon unsecured, but let him use it.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    That ends once you’re stable though.

    Edit: also, I don’t mean the kid should be free, but a life sentence for a neglected child seems unfair. The kid knew he needed help and couldn’t get it. Sounds like a victim too.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    The child asked for help and was neglected. Had he not committed a crime, wouldn’t we be calling him a victim?

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    Sure, but then we’re talking about him as a victim still. So why is he spending his entire life in prison? Some are cheering the Gypsy Rose Blanchard release, but saying this kid is a murderer who deserves to live behind bars

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    I don’t think many kids know about their options though. He basically said “I asked my parents for help and they denied me, so I can’t get help.” To me, that suggests the kid thought he exhausted his options. An uneducated child is a system failure imo, not a child’s criminal act.

    I’d also say that most people who are victims of suicide could have turned themselves in. Do we frown on them because they opted for violence?

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    Right. Maybe I’m just conditioned by a decade on Reddit to be Socratic and not say things bluntly lol

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    Yes, from a strictly legal perspective. But if we take a step back and ask ourselves “who is responsible?” it’s a little different.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    The resources argument doesn’t really make sense. Locking someone up for life is more resources than a few years of rehabilitation.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    He was sick… he knew he was sick… he asked for help

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    But the adult is able to get help on their own, the kid can’t.

    My impression is most people are vegan because of climate change and/or ethical reasons

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    There’s a difference between veganism and eating plant-based though. One is a moral ideology that objects to animal products overall (including leather), the other just doesn’t believe animal products are healthy (which is true in some cases, like red meat)

    Another person conflating the opinion column with the official stance of a paper lol

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    The point of the editorials is to publish dissenting views, not to cultivate an echo chamber. If you don’t understand the difference between dissenting political speech and hate speech, then there’s nothing I can really say here.

    You are welcome to submit your own response to The NY Times.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    So you want to silence all capitalists and have all major news outlets refuse to publish any dissent? Got it, that sounds like a wonderful world.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    And your logic is that because the world sucks, we should abolish free speech? Ok bud

    I know what you’re thinking. “Ugh, that evil Trump appointee,” which I also used to think. The truth is more complicated:

    time.com/…/louis-dejoy-trump-election-postal-refo…

    politico.com/…/how-louis-dejoy-went-from-democrat…

    So, putting info from the original source and my Time article, he wants to close some facilities, but open many more.

    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    He’s actually helped Biden in a number of ways: politico.com/…/how-louis-dejoy-went-from-democrat…

    Edit: this one is better time.com/…/louis-dejoy-trump-election-postal-refo…

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    So, you read the first paragraph? The article is about much more than DeJoy’s friendship with Podesta. It details his efforts to support Biden initiatives.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    Or, hear me out, he didn’t really do what you think he did: time.com/…/louis-dejoy-trump-election-postal-refo…

    He’s become a boogeyman when the real issue is Congress failed USPS for decades. Now they want to point a finger to save face, when it was their fault the whole time. If you do have a retort to the article’s claims, I’m interested to hear your take.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    You read just the short Politico one? Not sure if you saw my edit on the original comment, but this has far more info: time.com/…/louis-dejoy-trump-election-postal-refo…

    The contract process that started under Obama? The contract that was awarded in 2016, under Obama?

    We’re not talking about Obama’s postmaster general.

    Go back a decade and it was a little better. I used some scripts that optimized things, along with the Turkopticon community this article mentions and a subreddit for high paying tasks.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    A court made that decision.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    And another court could overturn it. Because courts aren’t bound by the text of the laws.

    jeffw ,
    @jeffw@lemmy.world avatar

    You’re putting words in my mouth. I never said that. I said anything needs money to run, even a nationalized system or a single payer system.
