Red flag laws do help a bit and they are the only real tool we have. Even if you’re saving a tiny fraction of the lives you could with real enforcement, you gotta do something. There’s just no path to federal gun control now

Theres actually good data showing that red flag laws do stop some violence. The reality is, it’s this crappy half measure or nothing, that’s just how our political system is. Yes, it’s a band aid on a gushing wound, but at least it saves somebody’s life

For those not familiar, Ohtani is probably the best baseball player alive right now (certainly the highest paid). He came to the US after playing baseball in Japan and has an interpreter who is also a good friend. The interpreter struggles with a gambling addiction and Ohtani allegedly paid off his friend’s gambling debts… or was the money stolen? Nobody knows yet, since people keep changing their story.

This is a problem because you can’t work for a sports league and also bet on games.

Employment discrimination suits aren’t brought by DAs or public prosecutors? And yes, in general, a DA could force out staff that refuse to comply with their agenda. That happens all the time because it is a political role. Biden doesn’t have to keep Trump appointees, same principle. But the guy at the gas station fired for voting for Biden? He can sue

For-profits don’t all have shareholders. Non-profits still have boards (and with non-profits it’s at times more difficult to rid your company of toxic board members). I’ve seen non-profits that move like snails and for-profits that move like cheetahs.

And I wouldn’t really say it’s easier, no. For two companies of the same size, I don’t think it would be any different just because you’re a public company. Plenty of them don’t mind posting a loss if they defend it with investments. Investors, especially institutional ones, don’t just look at revenue. Assets, liabilities, equity, it all frames investing decisions.
