The bad laws were in place even before Imran - so that isn’t unexpected. However, only a democratic government affords any chance of revisiting it. Arguing that the situation is the same now is completely disingenuous.

Missing mother found dead inside 16-foot-long python after it swallowed her whole in Indonesia (www.cbsnews.com)

A woman has been found dead inside the belly of a snake after it swallowed her whole in central Indonesia, a local official said Saturday, marking at least the fifth person to be devoured by a python in the country since 2017....

intrepid ,

More likely that the giant snake is in a coil around you and with every breath you exhale, you realize that you can’t inhale back in. This goes on until you lose consciousness due to asphyxiation. You won’t be awake or perhaps even alive by the time the snake decides to start swallowing you.

I switched nearly two decades ago after I used a freeware network monitor on Windows and realized that it was making dozens of silent TCP connections online. Some were to Microsoft, while others were to unknown third parties. Just imagine your personal machine doing this!

Linux is actually easy to use these days. Installation is often easier than windows and hardware just works most of the time. Despite that, people have a habit of exaggerating the difficulties in using Linux or BSD. They very often feel like excuses to avoid checking it out.

intrepid ,

You seem surprised. Are you not familiar with his political career?

intrepid ,

Narcissists by nature are attracted to power - no surprises there. But remember that India is an electoral democracy. The people voted him into power. An appropriate comparison is that narcissists are like the flame and the voters are the moths. Voters are going to be burned by their choices (sooner than later) - they don’t know it just yet. Just like the moths.

I don’t think that he can unilaterally order a nuke strike. It is decided by a command with a no-first-use mandate. Besides, he isn’t the head of the forces. It’s the president.

intrepid ,

It’s unlikely in the next 5 years anyway. The “emissary of God” won the elections, but lost the absolute majority. He is now the leader of a coalition government, with a stronger opposition to match.

Blinken hints at US sanctions against ICC over arrest warrants for Israeli leaders (www.independent.co.uk)

Antony Blinken has indicated that he will work with American lawmakers on potential sanctions against the International Criminal Court after it sought arrest warrants for Israel’s prime minister and defence minister, setting the stage for a confrontation with the world court in the Hague.

intrepid ,

The rest of the world should sanction these US-based thugs and shame them constantly on the media. It’s infuriating to see them commit all these atrocities and then smugly pretend to be the heroes.

intrepid ,

Ah, yes! The yellow animal strawman! Do you people have some playbook or something? Look for something new. This one has become a cliché.

BTW, it’s not racist to insult an evil man or regime. But like any true evil regime, you spin that as an attack on an entire race. Nobody other than you even mentioned the Chinese people. It’s like those evil gangs that use commoners as shield. It’s just pathetic.

intrepid ,

Somebody compares your dear supreme dictator to a cartoon bear. You: “You are racist against all Chinese”.

Even after others clarify that it’s against one person, you have your ears plugged and crying racism. You know what it sounds like? A scripted act to pretend that you’re morally right. In fact, I have seen this so many times. It’s from your masters’ propaganda playbook, isn’t it?

intrepid ,

Wow! The amount of dishonesty in your words is staggering. Nobody pretended that it was against one person - they mentioned only one person. You’re the one who twisted their words and pretended that it’s against an entire race. In fact, you are the only one who mentioned the Chinese race here.

And the racist tirade against Africans. They didn’t say that - you did. You made a racist insult in order to argue that others are racist. To be honest, no one else here is anywhere close to a racist as you are.

And please stop hiding behind ridiculous accusations of racism. It’s an extremely common and cheap tactic employed by autocrats to misdirect.

intrepid ,

You people go around calling others NSA, CIA and what not. But from my perspective, all your counter arguments are similar, consistent and repetitive. I have seen the same in other communities as well. At this point, you might as well concede that you’re running a CCP propaganda campaign on the lemmyverse, instead of trying to discredit others.

intrepid ,

It’s definitely the second - paid. Look how new people are turning up with long posts supposedly debunking ‘western propaganda’, supported by suspicious external sources. Also not how a pro- China post here is upvoted by multiple people as soon as it’s posted. All these could be one person. Even so, why go through so much trouble supporting a person others consider as a dictator?

intrepid ,

Source: Western Media

Which lie 105% of the time. The extra 5% is when they make random shit up and lie more to justify the random shit they made up.

Compared to what? The obscure, unsubstantiated, suspicious and clearly pro-Chinese news sources referenced here by you and your buddies?

intrepid ,

Yeah. Considering how hard it is to cook up news sources that support your propaganda. There is not one reputable source in your references. And you start celebrating!

intrepid ,

Your answer to everything is just trash? Keep it to yourself.

intrepid ,

It’s not as easily dismissed. Many US companies cancel internships/employment offers after the candidate has spent a considerable sum on travel and housing. It’s even more heartless when employment visas are involved.

For some very litigious companies, they’re let off easily after causing huge financial and emotional strain to individuals. They should be punished, penalized and forced to compensate the victims for these.

intrepid ,

The amount of exploitative powers that the US gives these abusive companies is absolutely insane. The minimum that’s needed for such transgressions is the jailing of responsible management staff.

NHS England to tell some transgender children to medically detransition or face safeguarding referrals (www.wearequeeraf.com)

New tory policy on trans kids just dropped: force them to transition or we take them from their families 🙃 They’re really hoping that all the trans kids kill themselves and some have due to law changes already. Bad news for them is that there’s never been world without trans people and there never will be.

Sorry to say, you don’t have a monopoly on retarded ultra conservatives. They’re everywhere, sticking their ***** where they don’t belong.

If you want any change in this, you should formally express your concern using A2A missiles. If they protest, formally deny it. This is what they do after all, isn’t it?

EXCLUSIVE: “You Have Been Warned”: Republican Senators Threaten the ICC Prosecutor over Possible Israel Arrest Warrants (zeteo.com)

A group of influential Republican senators has sent a letter to International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor Karim Khan, warning him not to issue international arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, and threatening him with “severe sanctions” if he does so....

The euphemistically named ‘Hague invasion law’ actually only promises to take any action necessary to avoid being held responsible. In real terms though, any military action against Hague will deeply polarize the world and destroy the current world order where the US enjoys some dominance and influence. The resulting scenario will see the US attracting the hostility of a lot of formerly allied nations. It will be worse than being held responsible at the ICC. So you’re kind of safe.

The common factor between their support of Zionism and their domestic antisemitism, is hate. They support Zionism since they hate the Muslims. They’re domestically antisemitic because they hate the Jews. They’re motivated and driven by hate. They are the poison that the civilized world dies on.

The ritualistic crucifixion in the Philippines is nothing like the real deal. While painful, grievous and fatal injuries are avoided in the ritual. The nail and the corresponding body part are not loaded. This is tolerable as long as the volunteer is not tired.

The real one was designed to cause a prolonged, but assured death. The Jewish-Roman historian Josephus talks about 3 of his acquaintances who were crucified. On learning this, the Roman emperor had them released and treated. Yet, two of them didn’t make it, while the third was just lucky.

The real crucifixion was designed to cause a range of prolonged and fatal injuries. That included asphyxiation, plural effusion and collapsed lungs, shock, embolism, heart failure, hypothermia, and/or infection. Besides these, there are other agonizing effects like neuralgia, nerve palsy, cyclical loading of wounds (where the nails are driven), hypercapnia (panic inducing increase in blood CO2 levels), joint dislocation, painful cramps, fracture (when crurifragium is applied) and discomfort caused by rubbing their scourged back against the rough wood.

Stories of people surviving crucifixion even when taken down are pretty rare. Even modern instances of crucifixion are pretty brutal when it’s not part of a ritual.

intrepid ,

You’re grossly underestimating the skill and coordination required by human hands. Granted that we don’t notice it. But our body has complex neural pathways that do this without constant attention from our conscious mind.

It’s not the 'ism’s that produce the capital. It’s the laborers. The 'ism’s just dictate who gets the benefits.

The worst thing that happened in this case is that the innocent law-abiding driver of the other car is badly injured, possibly with multiple fractures. I don’t see how this is a case of bad things happening to bad people. Even multiple fractures are too lenient for this PoS.

Over 30 pro-Palestine protesters arrested at Ohio State: what we know (www.nbc4i.com)

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Ohio State University police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested about three dozen people Thursday night for staging a pro-Palestine encampment on campus – carrying out what is likely the highest number of protest-related arrests there since the Vietnam War....

intrepid ,

So, sending weapons for two full blown wars isn’t satisfying enough for them?

Makes sense though. This is the same country that responds to school shootings by equipping teachers with more guns.

Islam includes many Jewish and Christian figures among their numerous prophets. (They believe Mohammed to be the last among them). That includes John the Baptist and Jesus himself (and possibly more). Since Jews had a hand in their death, that could be the reason why they make this claim.

While they’re partially correct, this antisemitic trope ignores a lot of context and nuances. For example, Jesus himself was a Jew and so were his initial followers. And there are strong reasons to believe that his crucifixion was a vicious threat towards the Jews of Judea. John’s story also has similar nuances. Unfortunately, all those contexts are neglected while creating the propaganda narrative of the evil Jew.

With this much complexity, why not just use TLS client certificates without PKI and managed by a password manager?

I think the Nazis were proud of what they did and owned it up.

But I agree that discrediting the discovery of the mass grave in Gaza is going to take more than the rhetoric of ‘bullshit terrorist propaganda’. Israel at this point is leaning too much on people’s sympathy when Hamas did the initial attack.

intrepid ,

Holocaust denial is a post-Nazi (after 1945) phenomenon, isn’t it? Or did the original Nazis ever do that as well?

intrepid ,

Israel probably knows that there are no takers for their delusions. But appearances are more important than the truth in this crooked world order.

intrepid ,

Sadly a very common and favorite strategy of genocidal autocratic regimes across the world.

Yes. Exactly.

Easy. He classifies his lies by his company:

  • Tesla: FSD, Cybertruck, Semi, Optimus and the spandex dancing man, solar shingles, solar farm, thermonuclear explosion proof glass, bullet proof chassis, battery-swap, range under full charge, share value, etc
  • Boring Company: Hyperloop, Not a flamethrower, Vegas loop, pods, tunnel bricks, etc
  • SpaceX: Martian colony, surface to surface starship, in-orbit refueling (to get to moon), in-situ methane production on Mars, etc
  • Neuralink: Telepathy, Brain backup
  • Twitter: Free speech
  • Musk himself: His net worth, The man who knows more about manufacturing than anyone else alive

Yes, it’s from memory. But don’t congratulate me yet. My guess is that it is just one third of Musk’s most egregious lies.

You better vote for him in the next rounds too, or it’s going to be see saw.

‘Every day I cry’: 50 women talk about life as a domestic worker under the Gulf’s kafala system (www.theguardian.com)

Condemned as dangerous and abusive, the kafala labour system not only disregards migrant workers’ rights but depends on exploitation. But 10 years after Qatar was advised by the UN to abolish kafala (“sponsorship”) entirely and replace it with a regulated labour network, the system is thriving across Lebanon, Jordan and...

Many of the victims are from poorer regions of the world. They end up in slavery after being cheated by recruitment agencies, who take money from them by offering a well paying job abroad (unskilled, but better pay than in their own country). Most people don’t even realize what they are paying for.

While the recruiters are truly villainous, the countries with the kafala system are no better. They know that the workers they get are victims of financial fraud and human trafficking. They still keep quiet and tolerate these criminals. They know that people won’t choose slavery voluntarily.

intrepid ,

The Kafala system sounds like a legal arrangement - which they are in these countries. But let’s not hide its vileness. Always call it the ‘Kafala slavery system’ or the ‘slavery laws’.

intrepid ,

Can you imagine the amount of corruptive influences and persuasions he is resisting?

intrepid ,

Though you may be right, I have a feeling that he is facing formidable opposition. That may include anything from social engineering to full on psyops.

intrepid ,

Your second point is especially interesting, considering the recent xz backdoor. The bad actors manipulated a poor burnt out maintainer for it. In comparison, I’m impressed with gorhill for his perseverance and mental strength. I would like to know how he avoids burn out with such negative influences.

intrepid ,

Not a lobbyist. But I can explain their motivation in one word: Money

intrepid ,

Why is lobbying allowed in any public interest discourse?

That aside, lobbying doesn’t mean anti-people by default. Some lobbyists lobby on behalf of the people.

intrepid ,

Frankly, I’m in favor of banning them from anything public.
