A lot will also depend on your personal usage. Whilst I agree wholeheartedly that Stremio UX is much better that Kodi, out of the box, the one thing that keeps me with Kodi is the fact that it has far superior Trakt integration.

I will admit that Stremio is getting better it’s still a far cry from Kodi with Trakt integration and it’s something I rely heavily on.

That said if Trakt is not your thing then Stremio is probably a better option.

Also, if you’re using RD either with Kodi or Stremio there’s no real need to use a VPN as well as traffic is passed over HTTPS so the ISP only sees that you’re connecting to RD not what you’re doing.

hellequin67 ,

Sorry for the late reploy, but this is what my KODI with trakt looks like on opening the app and the movie section is the same. All widgets are driven by my Trakt account

I use Fentastic skin with Umbrella add-on.

hellequin67 ,

I accidentally watched YouTube the other night without adblock, OMFG what an experience.

If I can’t watch with adblock I’ll just stop using it, it’s only a rabit hole to waste time for me anyway.

hellequin67 ,

Unless you’re using android where on tablets it still doesn’t support multi tab browsing but is an overblown phone app.

hellequin67 ,

Every other android browser supports tab bar for browsers on wide devices , the one exception FF.

I want a desktop type experience on my tablet not a phone UX.

hellequin67 ,

No, i mean like a tab bar like every other android browser and desktop.

hellequin67 ,

Yes bit not yet released and has been in backlog for 2 years, not great for a mainstream browser.

hellequin67 ,

You could try 2fas.com open source mobile application with browser extensions and cloud sync for backups.

Or www.bitwarden.com password manager is also open source and for a small “premium” supports 2FA for mobile/desktop/browser.

hellequin67 ,

The only saving grace with Samsung washing machine was it had two years of warranty and after about the 6th repair in just over 14 months the retailer swapped ot for another brand.

Typing this on a S24 Ultra and have numerous tvs but will shy away from any elctro domestics in the future.

hellequin67 ,

Can someone from the US explain , like I’m a 2 year old, how it is possible to pass a piece of legislation as part of a completely unrelated piece?

I.e. If they wanted to not block TikTok would they have had to block the whole bill from passing , so no aid?

hellequin67 ,

Has the death sentence been a deterrent for any crime?

hellequin67 ,

Pineapple and apple go well in pasta salads. Again not at the same time but the added sweetness and texture helps enhance the salad.

hellequin67 ,

I had a similar issue with Mint on my Latitude 7480, ended up using Fedora where everything just seems to work.

Best advice I can suggest is always use a live USB because if something doesn’t work there it won’t after install either.

hellequin67 ,

They did the same to Huawei and lots followed. This has nothing to do with security and all to do with preventing China’s leap ahead of US as a global economic technology powerhouse

hellequin67 ,

For Huawei , if that’s the case why did US not target all Chinese manufacturers and only the one that, at the time, was becoming the most technologically competitive one.

As for EV the argument regarding takeover as a wartime industry whilst maybe true not it still smacks of US protectionist practice rather than a genuine security fear.

Use work laptop as personal device by dual booting on a separate internal drive?

I currently have a Dell laptop that runs Windows for work. I use an external SSD via the Thunderbolt port to boot Linux allowing me to use the laptop as a personal device on a completely separate drive. All I have to do is F12 at boot, then select boot from USB drive....

hellequin67 ,

If I even tried to plug a USB into my laptop security would be down on top of me like a ton of the proverbial … the same way that the only true way to be secure is don’t plug into the internet the only way not to piss off corporate is don’t f*ck with their stuff.

hellequin67 ,

One of the many reasons I won’t buy Samsung.

hellequin67 ,

Apple may think they’re complying with the letter of the law but I suspect the EU will feel they’re falling far far short of the moral of the law.

hellequin67 ,

All these new features, I’m sure are great.

But when, oh when, will Mozilla start supporting tabbed browsing for tables and foldable devices.

It’s the one thing stopping me from swtitching.

hellequin67 ,

Yes , the same way almost every other browser does. My tablet is my desktop replacement I don’t want a bloated phone browser I would like a desktop experience.

hellequin67 ,

Probably because the brown envelope wasn’t think enough.

I’m sure for the right “incentive” they’ll happily cooperate.

hellequin67 ,

What especially galled me was as I was updating my laptop before flashing to Linux the new outlook will not work unless edge installed, I had just uninstalled that pile of garbage.

Ah well, at least pop_os works great 😃

hellequin67 ,

My weekend project will be install mint for my first flurry into Linux.

I’m going to set it up for some light gaming and media streaming.

Running on a Dell Latitude 4980, long term hoping to learn enough to set up a home jellyfin server.

hellequin67 ,

Thanks. Finally after Mint didn’t recognise my network adaptor I tried Manjaro (everything worked great, but I don’t think I’m ready for Arch) so ended up on Pop_OS … everything works so I’m going to stick with this for now.

hellequin67 ,

Good to hear, I’ve not had any issues so far. The only “niggle” I’ve had is when pairing my Bluetooth devices I’ve needed to turn Bluetooth on and off for each pairing bit once done they’ve reconnected fine.

hellequin67 ,

€4200 with tax (give or take)

😭 when you realise your dreams exceed your budget

hellequin67 ,

What would be good is if you could have a fediverse LDAP like login so you can use your login on any fediverse account and all your post etc link back to that single ID.

User reports Google Maps proposed a sponsored detour to a trip (paquita.masto.host)

Original toot in Spanish says: “OK, so I need some alternatives to Google Maps, because I just decided seconds ago to stop using it after I got proposed a trip with a completely unnecessary detour which adds two extra minutes just because it pass by a gas station that sponsors this trip.”

hellequin67 , (edited )

Interestingly 28th Dec is el Día de los inocentes in Spain, their equivalent of April Fools, so it’s possible it’s that

hellequin67 ,

Thanks for this. I’m on android 14 on Pixel 7 and had no idea you could pin items in the share tray.

Now I’ve been able to pin my two most frequently shared contacts and my most two used apps.

Your pain has been my gain so thanks but sorry.

hellequin67 ,

I’m not quite sure why, but I would feel somewhat uncomfortable swiping against a phone.

How can you be 100% sure it’s not being used to clone your card details.

It’s a completely illogical way of thinking because it happens with normal POS machines anyway so I truly can’t explain my irrationality.

hellequin67 ,

In fairness for non-US this makes even less of an issue as my birthday is 20/4 and 4/20 as a date is meaningless.

hellequin67 ,

Great more extensions, but still no tabbed mode for tablets and larger screen devices… /s

hellequin67 ,

This for me has been a work changer:

josh-berry.github.io/tab-stash/

Can open in tab or sidebar. Honestly, can’t recommend highly enough.

hellequin67 ,

And yet still no tablet support 😭

hellequin67 ,

Yes as a bloated phone UI. It doesn’t support tabs which almost every other browser does.

Of course it can run in a tablet but it’s not a great use experience

hellequin67 ,

My tablet is my laptop replacement so I tend to use it on the same way with a mouse and keyboard and want AC close to laptop functionality as possible, pretty much all other browsers have that functionality, except firefox.

hellequin67 ,

They couldn’t possibly make the experience worse than it already is without an ad blocker.

No adblock = No youtube

It's never been a better time to switch to Firefox on Android (www.androidpolice.com)

The final push to start using Firefox over Chrome on Android might finally be thanks to the enormous selection of add-ons (Firefox’s version of extensions) coming out next month. Chrome doesn’t offer native support for extensions in its mobile app. Also, better security.

hellequin67 ,

IF FF ever implement support for tabs on tablets I might consider using it.

I only use phone and tablet and to use a glorified phone app on a tablet is not a great experience. Almost every other browser in existence supports tags for larger screens.

Until FF fixes this it doesn’t matter how many extensions they allow in the browser I’m out.

hellequin67 ,

I agree, on the phone it’s a great app.

My problem is that as I only use tablet and phone it doesn’t make sense to use two different browsers so until it’s changed Vivaldi it is.

hellequin67 ,

It’s exciting news for them 😀, money money money

hellequin67 ,

If you want ad-free use Instander on android

hellequin67 ,

Maybe also try making Firefox tablet compatible like almost every other browser.

Currently it’s just a bloated phone UI on tablet, it’s the one thing stopping me from using as my daily browser on mobile devices.
