It’s that easy.

I’m guessing you’re not a programmer yourself? Because it’s really really not that east to /just/ detect in the server side, hacks can be super sofisticsted these days and there are often many client side exploits that you simply cannot detect serverside.

Outrage after US hunter who reportedly took wolf in bar and killed it only fined (www.theguardian.com)

A Wyoming hunter who reportedly ran over a gray wolf with a snowmobile, taped the creature’s mouth shut, took a picture with it inside a local bar and then shot it to death behind the tavern has ignited calls for stiffer penalties in such an egregious case of animal abuse....

gmtom ,

Nono you don’t understand every hunter has assured me that it’s not about the sick satisfaction of taking a life, it’s about helping nature by controlling populations and eating sustainable food, or whatever bullshit they come up with.

gmtom ,

hes not a hunter hes a psycho who get a stiffy from kicking something thats already down

Literally what’s the difference besides some half baked idea of “honor” ?

gmtom ,

You think people killing for pleasure is okay so long as its sanctioned by thr government?

gmtom ,

Just? No. Primarily? Yes.

gmtom ,

Have you ever seen people culling herds of wild boars?

gmtom ,

Because its a bad question.

Like if he didn’t tape its mouth shut, would that ha e made it okay?

If he had shot it instead of hitting it with a snow mobile, would that have made it okay?

If he just took it home instead of showing it off at the bar would that have made it okay?

Most hunters hunt for the entertainment of killing something.

gmtom ,

I’m all for things like population control and invasive species removal, but that doesn’t mean hunting for pleaser is perfectly fine because it serves that end.

Like I support compassionate euthanasia for people. That doesn’t mean I also support someone going into a hospice with rifle and shooting cancer patients.

gmtom ,

Okay, how many hunters in the US do you think are native American and hunting for food and fur, versus white Americans that go hunting primarily for the entertainment?

gmtom ,

“Okay, but only if I get to dress as a gnome while we do it”

“Steve you’re a fucking weirdo”

China trying to gain space through force, US admiral says (www.reuters.com)

Admiral John Aquilino, Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, said in an address to the Lowy Institute think tank in Sydney that China’s actions against the Philippines, particularly in Second Thomas Shoal, were “dangerous, illegal and they are destabilising the region”.

gmtom ,

Nooooo, we’re the only ones that are allowed to use force to impose are will on smaller countries >:(

gmtom ,

I think this over estimates how knowledgeable people are about climate change and over estimates how much people care.

gmtom ,

Oh I’m sure people answer that way when asked in a survey, but we all know people typically vastly overestimate their knowledge of it.

And people don’t actually care. They may say they do because they’re expected to care, but they don’t vote for climate policies, they don’t go to protests, they don’t invest in companies that provide solutions to climate change, they don’t make minor lifestyle changes for the sake of mitigation.

Like from personal experience my sister would probably answer that survey to say she is knowledgeable and cares about it personally. But when I talk to her about how bad climate change already is, and how changes are going to compound on themselves and that current predictions say we will suffer massive crop failures by the 2040s that will result in global famines, she just brishes it off as being too serious and “they’ll do something before that happens” or trying to convince her to go 1 day a week without eating meat, or to properly recycle things, or take the train that stops 5 mjns walk from her house instead of driving, all completely fruitless, because just like 99% of the population, she just cares about her own convenience. And she’s not a bad person, by any means, she’s one of the more socially conscious people I know.

gmtom , (edited )

Lmao reminds me of my company. They are headquartered in the US, but have a big office in the UK, and about twice a year someone from the US office comes over to try and recruit us to go over there. And every time no one goes, even though they’re offering us almost twice the equivalent salary to go over, between the women, the queers, non-white people, there’s not a lot of people left that wouldn’t been instantly downgraded the second they stepped off the plane. And out of those left most will care about healthcare or vacation time and uprooting their lives more than a better salary.

gmtom ,

Yeah, im on holiday in Dallas right now and its so bad. The nearest convenience store is over an hours walk away, and if I wanted to go to a supermarket its an almost 40 min walk to a bus stop, and a 20 minute bus ride on a bus that comes once per hour.

gmtom ,

Typically most countries would organise aid through a dedicated charity.

But since Israel has been murdering people from those charities, its only now that the UK is sending military assets, because even Israel isn’t stupid enough to kill Nato military personnel at this moment (though they would absolutely do that at other times cough USS Liberty cough

Honestly windows phone was sabotaged by both 3rd party developers who refused to port their apps to the platform, despite how easy it became AND did things like kill their own APIs to stop other developers from developing ports themselves, as well as by Google by not allowing their services on the platform.

The hardware was honestly top notch, even compared to my current S21 ultra. They were fairly pro consumer, having removable batteries, SD card slots and a 3.5mm jack right up until the end, even after the other big manufacturers removed them. And after the major update (the WP 8.1 update iirc) the software was really nice, intutive and pretty. I miss arranging and resising tiles, I miss having my pictures or album artworks showing up on the homescreen and I still use the Microsoft launcher on android to get the app drawer like I had on my WP.

gmtom ,

Microsoft launcher master race.

you suck

gmtom ,

U fucking wot mate?

The Lancaster not only entered service before the B-17, it was also the superior aircraft with 10x the bomb load of the B-17

gmtom ,

It’s a tax dodge

Have you ever worked with the Gates foundation? Because calling it a “tax dodge” like that is completely baseless, they’re a really reallyngood charity, like honestly one of the best in the world, and also that’s very ignorant of how taxes work.

gmtom ,

My dude, I have worked with the foundation to help create diagnostic tools for deseases that would otherwise gone unnoticed in developing countries.

The work we have done has saved thousands and thousands of peoples lives. So you can take your.

The “good work” you’re so keen to point out… is part of the grift.

And shove it right up your arse. If saving peoples lives is a “grift” to you because bill Gates didn’t sell his shares in Microsost before he gave them to his trust, because obviously the shares will keep increasing in price, then honestly I don’t fucking care.

And yes I know Bill Gates did shitty things and screwed a lot of people over in his early carrier to become so rich and I’m not excusing that. But the Gates foundation isn’t part of that and has done way too much good for humanity as a whole for some ignorant chucklefuck with no first hand experience of what they do to dismiss it as a “grift”.

gmtom ,

How is the money being out of their control the point?

The point is to save lives and help people, which the Gates foundation does incredibly well.

And it’s not a tax dodge, he’s literally just not selling his Microsoft shares for cash, getting taxed, and then giving the money to the foundation and instead just giving the foundation the shares directly.

Bro the quest is only 5 years old. And stop excusing shitty practices just because they are the normal.

gmtom ,
  1. I’m not excusing shit
  1. Here is an excuse.
gmtom ,

something thats irrelevant

its perfectly relevant to the conversation.

Get out of this reddit mentality you have where every interaction you have with another person on the internet is an argument you’re trying to “win”.

See real fans just call him Dave.

gmtom ,

Mate you talk about Celsius being arbitrary but it’s literally the other way around. 0 and 100 in f are bothe completely arbitrary. 0 outside has no real significance. In C its when you can start to expect ice and snow, so gives you actual information about the weather. The f scale could justnas well be 7° to 96° and it would make no difference.

gmtom ,

hottest weather you are somewhat likely experience"

Butyoure missing my point. In that there’s nothing special about 100°f. It’s not like 101f is some super rare or impossible temperature or anything . Or is any major different to 99f.

Of course if you grew up with Celsius it feels second nature. But for someone who isn’t familiar with either Celsius or Fahrenheit, the 0 - 100 could be way more intutive.

I did actually grow up on f, until I moved to the UK. C is just a better system. I think you’re VASTLY overestimating the utility of the scale going to 100 instead of 40 (and really if you want to get technical you can say C goes from -50 to 50 and that’s still a 100 point scale) especially as you can argue the 0-100 scale almost infers a percentile, so gives the false impression that 50f is “50% hot” which it very much isnt, its actually pretty chilly.

What’s blocking the sun during the eclipse?!

Technically its the light side of the moon thats blocking the sun.

gmtom ,

JFC you aren’t even denying it. you guys actually unironically believe it’s that simple.

gmtom ,

It’s not selective reading. If I make a statement and you say “No” that mea s you’re refuting that statement.

Then their second sentence had nothing to do with wether they think these politics are simple or not, hence why I didn’t quit it.

The OP is just using bad faith arguments to distracts from that. Which is why they don’t even attempt to deny it and just criticise the fact I didn’t quote their entire comment instead of responding.

gmtom ,

Then why can’t the OP nor you/ anyone else actually give an explanation, or even so much as give a response to an INCREDIBLY simple question. Of “do you think international diplomacy is that simple?”

Again. The conversation went

Me: diplomacy isn’t that simple

SB: No. Shouting genocide Joe worked.

The first sentence is them denying my point that diplomacy isn’t simple. The second sentence is tangential to that point. And does nothing to explain why they think diplomacy isn’t actually simple. He’ll I’m not even denying their se and point. Shouting genocide Joe did put pressure on Biden that did shape foreign policy in some small way. But again, its not relevant to the point I was making, so didn’t quote it.

Which is why the other commenter is acting in bad faith when they completely ignore my point because I didn’t quote their tangential point in my second comment.

I thought this would be fairly obvious to anyone with literacy skills but apparently I need to wrote whole paragraphs to explain what someone replying “no” means.

gmtom ,

Well I’m glad you were able to come to terms with that the very least.
