I tried soundux, within 5 minutes of running it it was eating cpu and froze my pc up

Tofi can do the sound searching stuff based on MP3 files in a directory, just need a way to play a sound on top of an input device from the cli

flashgnash ,

Only way we solve all of our problems is fundamentally changing human nature imo regardless of what system you try to put in place

flashgnash ,

Twenty years ago games didn’t cost over £100 sometimes and weren’t full of micro transactions to suck more money out of you

flashgnash ,

Depends on the game for me, if it’s indie I’ll pay full price, helped by the fact indie games tend to be cheaper

Is There a Way to Officially Disable a Lemmy Account?

I would like to know if there is an “official” way to set an account as disabled. For now, I am plan on posting this on Asklemmy, changing my password to some random string that I won’t remember, and then logging out. If I’d like to come back later, there’s a chance of my account being revived through the “forgot...

flashgnash ,

There’s no way to stop yourself from making a new account

If you really have no self control might be worth getting someone else to put a password on the app (assuming you use it on mobile)

There are browser extensions that can block time wasting sites for you but you’ll always be able to disable them

But hey you could always just start being horrendously racist until someone bans you

flashgnash ,

At one of the companies I worked out we had a head dev like this, except he didn’t want to spend any time teaching the juniors so we just had to kinda figure it out from eachother

flashgnash ,

If I hear a YouTuber pronounce it Lynux it immediately makes me skeptical of whatever they have to say

Unless it’s satire of course

flashgnash ,

Not going to happen I don’t think not while hardware is cheaper than development costs

flashgnash ,

That’s the neat part, you never finish

flashgnash ,

Fascinating but terrifying to think that natural selection is probably now pushing humans to be good little office drones rather than survivors

flashgnash ,

I’ve seen videos of eye surgery, no thank you I’m happy with my glasses and contact lenses

flashgnash ,

The other issue is I’m pretty sure it’s hugely expensive isn’t it?

flashgnash ,

Easily the worst popular messaging app out there. Even on windows the thing barely ever worked for me and hogged a bunch of system resources to boot

As with many messaging apps only thing keeping it alive is the network effect (and integration with 365)

flashgnash ,

Oh you want to use the default audio devices on your system? What default audio devices I’m going to use this random loopback device and your monitor with no speakers!

flashgnash ,

Did you know windows has a dedicated keyboard shortcut for launching linkedin, teams, and all the main Microsoft office products?

flashgnash ,

It was going so well until it started talking about white privilege and the Holocaust…

flashgnash ,

Easy way to verify, ask it about vaccines

flashgnash ,

Did it get taken down or something?

flashgnash ,

I’m still of the opinion all of these viewpoints should be heard out at least once even if you dismiss them immediately

flashgnash ,

I’m not sure a view or opinion can be correct or incorrect though except by general consensus

Absolutely things being presented as facts that are just incorrect should be blown out of the water immediately but everyone’s entitled to their opinion whether it’s well founded or not imo, censoring that’s just gonna drive them into echo chambers where they’ll never get the opportunity for someone to change their mind

flashgnash ,

Me calling my child ptoughneigh to screw with teachers having to try to pronounce his name for the first time

flashgnash ,

I am a dotnet dev using Linux as my primary OS. Dotnet core fully works on Linux now, there’s a native Linux dotnet cli that works almost identically to the windows one

SQL server I think has been able to run on Linux for a while anyway

You’ll have to learn to live without full fat visual studio but honestly you’re better without it anyway it just stops you from learning the stuff you really ought to know by doing it all for you

VSCode is a pretty good replacement and actually nicer to use if you know what you’re doing, neovim if you want to end up spending all your time configuring it (said as a neovim user)

Gaming is absolutely not an issue unless you play certain competitive games with weird anticheat (valorant for example)

As others have mentioned, docker and VMs exist if you have a reasonably powerful machine so nothing should be completely inaccessible to you anyway, on the windows machine I have to use at work I ironically do most of my dotnet dev on a Linux VM anyway

flashgnash ,

True, not free though and I think IDEs like visual studio proper abstract things away that you should probably have some understanding of

flashgnash ,

Honestly creating your own binds is so big

Hyprland has permanently changed the way I use a computer, pretty much everything I need on speed dial and opens/closes almost instantly

Also wrote a script to cycle through my audio devices and bound that to a button because I used to forever be fucking around with the gui every time I wanted to show someone a video on speaker or something

Just wish I could so the same on android

I feel relief after pulling off my toenails, whats wrong with me?

When I pull off my toenails I feel relief. It still hurts to do but afterwards I get a sense of overwhelming calm. Ignoring the pain aspect, It’s kind of similar to the feeling of having a blocked nose become clear. Is this indicative of anything?/ does anyone else experience something similar?

flashgnash ,

I somehow don’t think OP is clear minded in their decision to do this

flashgnash ,

I’ve found it’s best for things you kinda already know the answer to or at least know what it should look like, it fills in the blanks

Also, for gpt 4 you can get it without the subscription if you do it through the API and use something like gpt-cli (you’re still paying for it but unless you’re talking to it hours on end it’ll end up cheaper that way)

flashgnash ,

I use fish, have never once written a fish script. Just write bash scripts and they tend to work fine, otherwise run em in bash

flashgnash ,

Watched the first ep and it’s pretty good. You can really tell the writers played and appreciated the game

flashgnash ,

I found steam controller is the pinnacle for remote controlling a PC/TV. Typing with the dual touchpads once you get used to it is amazingly fast and easy

They’re hard to get nowadays though

flashgnash ,

You can also click the touchpads to select the keys

flashgnash ,

Given how much of a fluke it was someone found it it makes you wonder what else is hiding in some core component of our systems

flashgnash ,

I’ve been loving telescope and fzf with nvim, but never really got harpoon.

Isn’t it basically just a recents list? I find it easier normally to just type the first couple letters of the file name with fuzzy find

flashgnash ,

Don’t you have to set the harpoon marks manually? And actually now that I say that isn’t it just a tui on marks?

flashgnash ,

Sshfs afaik is used for a different purpose than the others

I usually use it when I’m working on a remote machine for a long duration and want to use my local tools (so I don’t have to install them on the server, and because using neovim over SSH on a crappy connection sucks)

flashgnash ,

Would you? You can sshfs into anything with ssh, thought you had to set up nfs

flashgnash ,

It’s good enough and everyone has it and knows it

I’m not about to even attempt to ask someone in a game if they’ve got matrix because the answer is going to be no

flashgnash ,

github.com/Droogans/unmaintainable-code

Feel like I should leave this here incase anyone hasn’t seen it

flashgnash ,

Notice of Xbox. This account is permanently.

Have a nice!

that ain't legal either (lemmy.ml)

transcriptScreenshot of github showing part of the commit message of this commit with this text: Remove the backdoor found in 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 (CVE-2024-3094). While the backdoor was inactive (and thus harmless) without inserting a small trigger code into the build system when the source package was created, it’s good to...

flashgnash ,

You’ve gotta wonder what else you’d write though

Especially given the urgency guy’s probably not gonna sit there and ponder

flashgnash ,

Depends on the tea. Black tea with a little milk is the classic, bonus points if loose leaf

flashgnash ,

If you’re using pulse you can use a cli called pactl to manipulate your audio devices pretty much however you want

You can also use it to change your current audio device which is one of the major sticking points for not going back to windows for me, hitting a button on my keyboard to toggle between speaker and headphones is unbelievably satisfying

flashgnash OP ,

Come ooon hurry up and tap your cars this could be PB!

flashgnash OP ,

I feel like such a dork hearing about everyone doing this stuff, because then there’s me who actively pressed the help button cause it wouldn’t let me register a second pastry (the first one counted for both because they were in the same bag)

I live in a rural area and there are only two supermarkets I can get to easily so I’d much rather not risk getting caught out and banned and just pay the usually pound or so I would’ve saved by doing this

flashgnash OP ,

It’s a chain, but as much as I dislike chains I don’t want to steal from them. Supermarkets don’t seem nearly as evil as a lot of other companies to me and they provide a genuinely useful service that smaller companies couldn’t do as well

flashgnash ,

Virtual desktops, multi monitor and tmux allow me to go full ADHD, everything open at once, multiple projects on different desktops with like 5 windows open

Bonus points when I’ve got multiple terminals connected to the same tmux session because I forgot I already had it on another desktop or wanted it split with something else

My home setup is an ultrawide and a 1080p monitor. I find with tiling and virtual desktops more than that is surplus to requirement (even the 1080p monitor usually just has a browser open)

flashgnash ,

Pretty much exactly the same for my work setup except flip left and right .

I can’t effectively use 3 for personal stuff, one monitor at work pretty much exclusively is for teams and outlook
