She’s playing a collective of dumb antagonists, and Jeff may or may not be a collective of progressive thinking/experimenting people who were ignored throughout history despite their efforts.

chatokun ,

Would they have? Tesla, Toyota (prius brake issue), Samsung (battery fires and iirc dryer issues) Ford (exploding pinto iirc) Sacklers (opiates) all have blood/injuries on their hands from mistakes, willful negligence, or outright corruption and they’re all going strong.

Edit ah, I might be out of date on Perdue.

chatokun ,

Plus plenty of us Americans mock that stuff too. In the state I live in, a man was killed by people loving guns like this because he was black while jogging. At the time, I was living in a city called White, GA. Down the street was a lumberyard that flew Confederate and Trump flags. I’m a person who since I was young loved exploring places in woods etc, but I’m rather terrified to do it in this day and area, especially with my skin color. A lot of us are trapped by circumstances here, so that comment felt more like a

“You complain about America, yet you live there. Curious.” type of comment.

chatokun ,

You have so much to learn about people who feed into the Satanic panic. Cherry picking is by definition how they get there. One of Alex Jones biggest boggiemen for years was a subsection of a law that allowed medical testing on troops, and he always ignores the very next section that states that it all requires informed consent. Then lies and act like people would have no idea.

During covid he found an exercise that tried to assume 4 different future scenarios that may come into play, and ignored the positive leaning ones or nuetralish ones and went straight for the heavily authoritarian exercise because it used a possible pandemic as a background setting, then claimed it was all planned out and proof Covid was a bioweapon attack.

People like this willfully ignore things that give context, and will often repackage it without the context anytime they can.

My younger sister has (in the past, quite a while ago, but still) gotten me a cease and desist during a visit and torrenting without a VPN, so I wouldn’t say no way.

chatokun ,

Being a support person, if I was rich enough to frivolously buy systems, I’d have at least one of each as a reference system. Yes, I know, vms, but that’s for saving money/space. Especially MAC I’d have some hardware too. Definitely not a main system though. I currently have a broken Mac and a cheap chromebook for that reason, though due to being broken the Mac is rather useless now. When it worked I often used it to help test/troubleshooting customer stuff.

I don’t follow archeology directly, but every couple months I listen to the Unearthed! episodes of Stuff You Missed in History class, which goes over the prior quarter’s archeological news. A whole section is dedicated to reciprocations, because there are tons of complaints. UK museums still refusing to send back stuff stolen from other lands, items found to have been illegally taken, etc.

So it’s more if nobody the people who run the place cares about complains.

chatokun ,

Testicles make more sense because it’s easy to acquire, you just butcher the animal. Same with blood. Milk is also produced regularly with a little more work. Semen requires ejaculation AFAIK, which feels both much harder and much weirder to perform.

chatokun ,

Sync and I was already used to it when I abandoned Reddit.

chatokun ,

Worse, iceberg lettuce. If the first one is also iceberg, pass.

They tried to make Oregon a whites only state a long while back. Not even wanting slaves, during 1857 when they applied for Statehood they both banned slavery and any free black people from existing in the state. It was more of a “We don’t even want to see them” kind of hatred.

chatokun ,

I buy THC drinks online from 3Chi. I haven’t had an urge to try anything harder (in fact, I’m a bit scared of anything that might affect my heart (aside from booze becaus3 we all do at least one very stupid thing), and the only thing I do want to try but only with a good support group around is shrooms).

chatokun ,

Knowledge Fight takes a critical look at Alex Jones(I put this in every post I make about him because I can’t stand to listen to AJ direct, and I don’t want people thinking I do). Anyway, he goes out to break quite often shouting stuff like THEYRE COMING FOR YOU, THEY’RE COMING FOR YOU, THEY’RE COMING FOR YOU!!! after having discussed the “demonic antifa/BLM/democrats coming to your houses.”

Obviously not everyone is as sensationalist as Alex Jones, but he’s been bragging about how other places have started sounding like him. Including Joe Rogan (probably more on Vax and stuff like that, but still)

chatokun ,

Nah, I listen to Knowledge Fight which debunks Jones who rants about what you said. This meat is specifically lab grown, not alternative meats, so either DeSantis is a total moron to mix em up, or he’s doing this sorta on what you’re saying but more on the prop up beef markets side than scared of insects side. It’s like dairy companies attacking any non dairy milk, like oatmilk, almondmilk, etc. This one feels less the conspiracy pipeline and more lobbying money.

Though obviously conspiracy speaking points.

Emergency Slide Falls Off Plane, Winds Up At Home Of Lawyer Whose Firm Is Suing Boeing (www.huffpost.com)

An emergency slide that fell off of a Delta passenger jet shortly after take-off last week reportedly turned up two days later outside the home of a lawyer whose firm is coincidently suing the Boeing plane manufacturer over safety issues....

chatokun ,

I like some lawyers. Mark Bankston and Bill Ogden are good in my books. Still, never have heroes because we’re all fallible humans.

chatokun ,

Well, not safe for those of us who have skin shades darker than mild tan.

chatokun ,

I have a shellfish allergy and I rag on me all the time. The one that really sucked was developing an egg allergy. I love eggs (and before someone suggests duck eggs, they were the initial trigger. I was probably somewhat intolerant before because they gave me heartburn and some digestion issues, but 3 duck eggs caused projectile vomit, and I haven’t been able to eat eggs since).

chatokun ,

Eh, some of us climb. Using ropes. I’m no where near as good as him, so I want safety. If I were as good as him? Still want that safety.

chatokun ,

Or they’re still watching single female lawyer and will visit when the feed cuts during the finale.

chatokun ,

Absolutely. I think part of the draw of reality TV is seeing people who are a bigger mess than we are (personally I don’t watch it, but the theme is consistent in comedy and sitcoms, Futurama, Family Guy, Simpsons all have kinda stupid protags to make it easier to relate/laugh at because they aren’t better than the general viewer). I could see an alien species laughing about how dumb humans are.

chatokun ,

I mean, it isn’t a ban. It requires they be owned by Americans. Those others are already compliant, unfortunately.

chatokun ,

I don’t think it’s where you came from but whether you’re a citizen and most importantly if the government can apply regulations and or investigate(and maybe somewhat control) your company. I think Elon qualifies there, though he seems to break rules all the time so I really wish they would.

Instagram Advertises Nonconsensual AI Nude Apps (www.404media.co)

Instagram is profiting from several ads that invite people to create nonconsensual nude images with AI image generation apps, once again showing that some of the most harmful applications of AI tools are not hidden on the dark corners of the internet, but are actively promoted to users by social media companies unable or...

There isn’t, but emphasis on why it’s an issue is always a good thing to do. Same reason people get upset when some articles say “had sex with a minor” or “involved in a relationship with a minor” when the accurate crime is “raped a minor.”

chatokun ,

I have. (IT has a perhaps not surprising amount of them). Usually at that point it isn’t stupidity, it’s a form of selfishness. Either they prioritize what they need and either don’t see or don’t care the harm (some small business owners) or they have a strong belief that they are right, and won’t acknowledge any other viewpoint. They can do good work in stuff they know, but may be insufferable if you’re trying to correct their way of doing things and they just think their way is better (our whole section of IT lost access to edit firewalls because one of our higher placed techs kept doing things his way and security kept having to fix it. I replaced him when he left). People who are skilled in one area also seem to think they’re automatically smart in others, like Ben Carson.

Back to the small business owners, Behind the Bastards has a couple of episodes starting with How Nice, Normal People made the Holocaust Possible. In it he discussed how many small business owners feared becoming destitute, and in that fear despite not needing the help fell for fascism in order to keep their place. I’ve met people who said they voted for Trump because they thought he’d be better for them as a business owner, and there was pressure from business owners during the pandemic too. These people aren’t necessarily idiots, but their priorities put themselves before the other.

This is mostly lighting. Changing from a colder light to a warmer light does wonders.

London police apologize after threatening to arrest ‘openly Jewish’ man near pro-Palestinian protest (www.nbcnews.com)

London’s police force has been forced to issue two apologies after officers threatened to arrest an “openly Jewish” man if he refused to leave the area around a pro-Palestinian march because his presence risked provoking the demonstrators....

Feels like a Nazi just trying to act like a leftist. They either don’t understand nuance, are going for gotchas, or trying to recruit.

chatokun ,

Man, racists get around. Never heard of this one.

chatokun ,

I reviewed the allegation. It’s racist. Why are you defending this?

chatokun ,

I think it’s more the accusation than you, but, /shrug. Unless you’re the one who pioneered this whole thing.

chatokun ,

I was actually discussing this very idea with my brother, who went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, Orrrlandooooo recently and while he enjoyed himself, said it felt like not much is new in theme parks nowadays. Adding in AI driven pictures you could actually talk to might spice it up.

chatokun ,

The IT argument actually supports your argument, not necessarily against it. I work in IT and from home, and my company only works with Linux in limited capacities. Most of our tools and most of our clients are Windows based. Sure, I have Linux vms and such, but at the current moment switching my main OS is a hassle that I’ll go through later.

chatokun ,

Some creole languages actually use single letters like that, so some people you’re mocking may just be doing habits from their native language. Why bother complaining? It’s such a minor thing to get up in arms about.

chatokun ,

While I believe I have seen terminator 2, dunno about 1, but there are a ton of movies people think everyone has seen or should see that I have not. Some I even own (like Iron Giant).

chatokun ,

Yeah, Jehovah’s Witnesses know to wait till someone is coming out rather than inside or heading in for this very reason.

chatokun ,

Depending on the canon (because iirc I don’t recall if it’s in the new Disney canon) droids can be detected by the force, and also by some are considered sentient beings. BattleDroids weren’t quite as independently sentient though, from what I recall.

chatokun ,

I sit in my Secret Labs gaming chair when working from home. When I work at the office, I sit in their Secret Labs Titan gaming chairs, which don’t have a back or neck pillow so are slightly less comfortable and slightly too big.

chatokun ,

What? No. They only know the amount you asked them to withhold, and that could get you in trouble if you specify dependents then tell everyone you don’t have any or something. Also if someone is living in your house, making less than 4700 for the entire year, they can be claimed as a dependent, which means you don’t even have to have kids. How would your work even know?

chatokun ,

Most of that stuff is pretty optional, and that’s for automatic withholding info. You can correct this all on your tax return. This form is more for you to have convenience during return time, and it even says you can exempt yourself from the form for multiple conditions. I don’t see why you need to get paid in cash still, like your original comment.

chatokun ,

The first thing is not so much less democracy, but more participation. I’m definitely guilty of this myself, so not trying to be holier than thou preachy. Conservatives have been doing a concerted effort to take over lower level offices as well, school boards, municipal positions, etc. Part of the issue seems ro be the people who want to do this stuff often have an ulterior motive, and people who should probably be in these spots have a lack of interest.

chatokun ,

You overestimate how many of us even know that. It was probably mentioned in school I guess, but this is the first I remember hearing it. I did do kindergarten to 2nd grade in a different country though.

chatokun ,

That’s why I assume ir was taught, but as I mentioned I have no memory of it, so it wasn’t taught that strictly. I went to school in a county that had schools named after “Stonewall Jackson” and the like, so I’m sure biases were baked in.

chatokun ,

Wait, there are people upset they didn’t go to terrorists? Well, of course there are, but I was shocked a CNN article even used settler, for the points you made. It specifically invokes taking from the people there to benefit themselves, which I didn’t expect CNN of all places to do.
