Someone offered a definition here: lemmy.world/comment/8529913

From the discussion, that definition may also be a hallucination, though.

64.7% of all web traffic was from Google Chrome in 12/23. Companies like it because you can develop for one browser and support most people.

CombatWombatEsq ,

Not really, unfortunately. Firefox has only like 85% of the spec implemented, iirc. It is the browser I develop in most, personally, though, fwiw.

CombatWombatEsq ,

Interesting. Do aerosolized fluoridates adhere to teeth?

CombatWombatEsq OP ,

I think it already is. I think we just need to send a Calendly to see when everyone’s got some free time and we can burn this mother down.

CombatWombatEsq OP ,

Not “millionaires”, it’s “millions” like “lots of people”.

CombatWombatEsq ,

I honestly don’t see a reason why anybody would want something like that

Famous last words.

CombatWombatEsq OP ,

I’ve also switched to duckduckgo as my default search engine, but I do find myself falling back to google more often than I’d like because duckduckgo can’t find what I’m searching for.

CombatWombatEsq OP ,

Not yet, but I’ll give it a go!

CombatWombatEsq ,

I feel similarly, except I wish more users were interacted with my sports communities too. Guess it’s a “have your cake and eat it too” kind of problem.

CombatWombatEsq ,

My country’s national anthem is just one long stupid rhetorical question that’s impossible to sing. It’s super embarrassing at international sporting events when it’s consistently the worst one there.

Just doing a few soccer teams and a league – it’s a lot of time and a lot of infrastructure

CombatWombatEsq ,

I was just sharing my experience with running the communities for the three clubs in my city. I look forward to hearing about your experience with running all those – I’m sure you’ll do much better than I and much more efficiently.

CombatWombatEsq ,

I’m trying to get a team together to do something similar which you can join if you’re interested: dougs-digital-garden.netlify.app/…/trailsapp/

CombatWombatEsq ,

I added a user story to the site to reflect this idea! I can’t promise we’ll ship it, but I can promise we’ll think about it.

CombatWombatEsq OP ,

…check the community name, my dude

CombatWombatEsq OP ,

What did you hope to accomplish, publishing this comment in a community explicitly for child-free people? Did you think I was going to have a come to Jesus moment and turn my life around and become a parent because you posted this?

zsh or fish for an intermediate Linux user?

So I’ve been using Linux now for a while, and am looking to migrate my dev environment to vim and spend more time in the command line. I’m fairly comfortable with bash but by no means an expert. I’ve used zsh with some minor customization but just recently learned about fish. I’d love to hear people’s opinions.

CombatWombatEsq ,

You’re probably not gonna have zsh either, though, but I wouldn’t recommend using sh as your shell on your personal dev machine 🤷‍♂️

The fediverse is less like Twitter and more like email. You sign up for email through a provider, like Gmail or Outlook, and they have control over your access to the other users and pay the costs of running your hardware, the same way you sign up with a particular domain on Lemmy or Mastodon. Like email, you have an inbox that receives messages, and communities are like email groups you join and send messages to. And, like email, it’s based on standards that everyone has agreed on through a group called the w3 consortium.

I would absolutely not use the word “superficial” to describe Barbie, and feel fairly confident you haven’t seen the movie given that you’ve chosen it.

CombatWombatEsq ,

I just spent last night migrating off goodreads and moving my lists out of libby, and there are definitely still some rough edges, but it’ll get you there.

Neither do I, but the Hindenburg very famously exploded while being filled with hydrogen.

My feeling is that the US as a nation will have to adapt its expectations around international success in women’s football. It is not that the team are necessarily failing, and it is not just about this team or this coach. For the US, there needs to be a bigger conversation about their collegiate system and youth development as well as the NWSL.

And also

There’s still a huge amount of talent in this US team but with so many of the squad playing solely in the NWSL, it doesn’t offer enough diversity to their squad in terms of playing against different styles. Here in Europe, where you’re playing in different competitions, Champions League or cups, players aren’t going to be fazed by other things because they come up against different football week in, week out.

I think we can even calculate about how often it happens. My math is gonna be Amerigo-centric because I’m American and so are fortune cookies.

There are ~3 billion fortune cookies produced yearly in the USA, so 8.2 million cookies are opened per day. There are 292,201,338 PowerBall combinations. That means that there’s about a 2.8% chance that someone opens a fortune cookie that has any given lotteries numbers on it. But wait! There isn’t just one “the lottery”; there are 48 states and territories in the US, and my state (Washington) has four games. Assuming everyone’s state is like mine, and you randomly select a lottery to play, that leaves us with a much more modest .014% chance that on a given day, someone opens a fortune cookie with their lottery number on it.
