Dissatisfaction is a good thing. It’s the fuel that pushes you to do something. Maybe it’s something big like switching careers or cutting ties with toxic relationships, but most often it’s small things like picking up a new hobby, volunteering, or taking a vacation.

Don’t dismiss dissatisfaction. Look into your life and see what you need to change.

Dump a cup of white vinegar into the wash, let them soak. Mildew will be gone. Add an extra rinse if it smells of vinegar.

Fallout. The one that comes to mind is the Fallout 4 menu music, but I’ve gotten that feeling with nearly all their games.

Legit though. I got my finger slammed in the car door but luckily it didn’t lock like that. I could see bone. Even theoretical, thinking about the door locking makes me panic a bit.

cabbagee ,

The crimp is so cool! Can you share how you did it?

cabbagee ,

Wow that’s incredible, and you make it look so easy! Thank you for the video!

cabbagee ,

‘Cute’ is just a positive word saying the outfit’s nice. ‘Sexy’ is the pregnancy of the fashion world. Don’t tell someone they look sexy unless you’re really sure and maybe not even then. Not all women who are sexy are trying to look sexy, and ‘sexy’ means different things to different people.

You didn’t state the problem and I don’t know German, so I’m guessing you’re solving for the time of two trains?

It helps if you organize every problem into 3 steps: 1) what is the given info from the problem? 2) what core equations are we using? 3) how do we use #1 and #2 to solve the problem?

Your notes show these steps but if you can organize it well enough that it’s easy to understand just by looking at the blackboard, that will make everything smoother. Write the given info as bullet points. You’re using S=VT as the core equation, so underline it and write out what each letter stands for. From there, write each step vertically.

It’s been a while since I saw it, but I remember most people thought something was wrong with the experiment setup or equipment.

Problem with my specific laptop's connection to wifi.

Hello, I have this laptop and need to update it, but the internet seems to be unable to connect. here are some details. at first it worked, but after i updated it (i think) it stopped working. I tried to enter the home’s wifi password and such, but now it says (cant connect to this network). it doesn’t even prompt me to...

cabbagee , (edited )

Since you’ve uninstalled the WiFi driver, try:

  • Reinstall driver
  • Restart computer, modem, and router
  • Double check that there’s not a WiFi switch that’s off. I’ve seen physical switches and Fn buttons for this.
  • Try to connect to WiFi
  • Make a hotspot with your phone and try to connect to that

If it fails to connect to both WiFi and the hotspot, then it might be a driver, OS, or hardware problem. You could redownload the driver on another computer (or via Ethernet if you can connect that way) and try again. Similar for the OS, but I don’t know Windows so seek specific advice for that. Hardware is easy. A WiFi adapter like this should work

Edit: Also make sure that your network is working correctly. Do other devices connect to the Wi-Fi? Turn your phone’s data off and connect, then see if it loads anything. Could be the internet’s out or the modem.

cabbagee ,

If your laptop’s able to connect and use the hotspot, that’s good news. Drivers, OS, and hardware are all probably fine. Couple more thoughts:

  • On your laptop, forget the network and try to set it up manually with IPv4/6 instead of DHCP. This article has some steps for that.
  • Does your network require whitelisting devices? Alternatively, could your laptop be blacklisted?

If these don’t work, could you add your windows version, exact error wording, and the hp model to the post? It will help for looking the problem up.

I have a distant sibling that I’ve been building a relationship with over long distance. Saw them in-person and realized that they have quite a few toxic traits from one of our narcissistic parents. I don’t know what to do now. I’m pretty traumatized from that parent and my sibling doesn’t see any of it as a negative. I don’t think I have the ability to open their eyes on it, either. I want the relationship I thought we had.

I didn’t like coleslaw until I ate it as a condiment. Alone it’s not my thing at all. In a sandwich? On top of pulled pork? Awesome stuff.

I started getting judgemental looks in my teens. That being said, I don’t know how much I would care if an adult popped up on my doorstep

Good rule for anyone who comes by, really.

Would you prefer if games had a separate difficulty setting for boss fights?

I usually play games on “normal” difficulty these days, for a balanced challenge. However, I don’t particularly enjoy boss fights, or at least I don’t enjoy the extra challenge associated with them. Was thinking it would be nice if games had a separate setting so I could just set boss fights to “easy”, while not...

cabbagee ,

I’ve come to firmly believe that all games should have an invulnerability setting for the sake of accessibility. It’s probably one of the easier settings to implement for most games and it would have the most impact for the wide range of accessibility needs out there.

cabbagee ,

If it’s pvp then sure it’s cheating but why would it be cheating for a single player game? Isn’t the point to have fun?

cabbagee ,

Control for me! It was mind blowing. Not a difficult game but it really improved my ability to enjoy the game at some points.

cabbagee ,

Regular looking glasses with live captioning. We get close but it always seems just out of reach.

cabbagee ,

Ah that’s frustrating. The XRAI looked promising, but it’s bulkier than I can wear and my phone isn’t compatible with it.

cabbagee ,

Don’t tell him he’s annoying. Call him out when something’s not appropriate for the workplace (like the fart jokes) but don’t make it about his personality.

Consult HR on how to go about the quirks that aren’t inappropriate but still very annoying. They can give you the language toolbox you need.

cabbagee ,

Too much butter and maybe an earthquake.

cabbagee ,

Not by default, but if you cut life short then you can’t find the things that make it “worth it” in the end. And those things, the ones that make it so freaking worth it, they’re out there. They’re rich and beautiful and sometimes deceivingly simple.

I’ve been in a “not worth it” place before. The possibility of a “worth it” place was so foreign I don’t remember even thinking about the future. I’m in a “worth it” place now. I know it may not be permanent but I hope that I can at least help others make their lives worth it if not always my own.

cabbagee ,

After that first time, everyone would jump to check printers.

How to deal with Ancient aliens in the workplace?

Two of my coworkers frequently mention shows like “Encounters” or “Ancient apocalypse” or whatever. I’m not the best at debating or forming arguments against these though I do feel strongly that bold claims require better evidence than a blurry photo and an eyewitness account. How do you all go about this?...

cabbagee ,

Those questions are just going to open a can of crazy. Some battles aren’t worth fighting and in the workplace you’re going to see a lot of them.

cabbagee ,

To be honest, “The great thing about being Jewish is I don’t have to hate my daughter for being herself” would be so much fun to say. I know it wouldn’t end there though.

cabbagee ,

Yeah it’s never worth it. I have ultra religious family too and the mental gymnastics they do to defend their prejudice is baffling. I have so many shower arguments that will never see the light of day.

cabbagee ,

What I used to do was make notes at the end of the day. Just a couple short bullet points to say at standup and help me get back on track a little faster the next morning.

cabbagee ,

Honestly I like your way better. Makes the ticket easier to hand off. Pocketing that for later.

cabbagee ,

Thank you. The extra article about the 116 and 105 year olds crediting bacon made me laugh. No men and lots of bacon, got it.

cabbagee ,

I love it when movies show deep friendships between men/women that don’t inevitably become a romance. Not every situation is Harry met Sally and it’s okay to have fulfilling, close relationships with people in your romantic orientation.

cabbagee ,

YES. Main characters don’t have chemistry and a romance adds nothing? Let them be, it doesn’t have to be forced.

Is your condition stable, slowly worsening, or critical?

Before you do anything, talk to your doctor. They might be able to recommend a specialist in-state or closer than NY. They may even be able to work with a doctor in another hospital. If you want to go to NY, talk to the hospital directly (not through your cousin) and buy the ticket as close as possible. Unless your condition is severe and worsening, they may not be able to take you in immediately. Look at the hospital online and see if they have telemedicine services. You might be able to make an appointment through that.

Lastly, for the incoming medical bills my advice is this:

  • See if you qualify for financial aid through the hospital.
  • Get an itemized bill and ask if there’s anything that can be reduced.
  • Get the lowest payment plan that you can. Never miss a payment. After some time you might be able to pay it off a reduced bill or it may even be forgiven.

Edit: Also, NTA as many people have said. Best of luck, friend.

cabbagee ,

Hey if I’m going to be gaslit I might as well make it work in my favor sometimes too.

cabbagee ,

This only works if the product isn’t in demand. Degrees are in high demand - jobs require them, better jobs require multiple and higher prestige degrees. That isn’t going to change.

Instead those rich enough would still get a degree, but middle and lower classes would be cut out. In the end it would create a wider gap between the classes.

cabbagee ,

They wouldn’t change the requirements. We see it now. When a company can’t find “qualified” candidates, they outsource it to international contractors.

cabbagee ,

Costco is incredible but unless you have a family how do you eat 24 eggs before they go bad?

Hard to tell without a good look at the abdomen, but I think this is a barn spider. The bite isn’t bad for humans. They are very creepy cute when resting, they fold their legs up and become a kind of diamond shape.

Edit: It looks like both Neoscona crucifera and Araneus cavaticus are commonly called barn spiders. I linked to the first but the second is the namesake.

cabbagee ,

Thanks, I updated it. Maybe it loads now?

cabbagee ,

It looks like both Neoscona crucifera and Araneus cavaticus are called barn spiders, though the latter is the namesake. Thanks for the specifics, I learned something new and will update my comment :D

cabbagee ,

No need to apologize at all! I’m a novice spider lover so I’m constantly learning. I think Neoscona can be called a barn spider but it’s not THE barn spider. Confusing but nice to know.
