Chaotic evil energy

TORFdot0 , to newcommunities in Regular posters, which communities are you currently focusing on?

!fantasyfootball I have been posting a lot to try to get it active in time for the start of regular season. I found the same community on Reddit helpful in sourcing advice/consensus on certain players and such

TORFdot0 , to moviesandtv in Was Disney's Fox purchase a huge waste of money?

Even if it’s in the vault, it’s content that fox isn’t licensing out to competitors that they may have if they were an independent entity

TORFdot0 , to moviesandtv in Was Disney's Fox purchase a huge waste of money?

I think that the fox purchase was a long-term play as part of its streaming strategy. It gave them access to a bigger catalogue of movies and shows and kept another competitor from releasing another streaming platform. It also gave them a majority stake in Hulu that they didn’t have before.

They specifically let the live tv content such as Fox News, the fox affiliates, and fox sports and the regional sports networks out of the deal because they weren’t interested in non-ondemand content

We won’t truly know if the fox purchase was a waste of money until we see if the Disney streaming experiment was a failure or not. If it survives the price hikes without losing to many subscribers then it probably won’t be

TORFdot0 , to asklemmy in do you turn on read reciepts in your messaging apps?

I don’t care enough to turn it off if it’s on by default but I’m also not going out of my way to turn it on either. If somebody has a problem with me leaving their message on read instead of being understanding that people get busy then it’s probably better for me to know that person has some red flags.

TORFdot0 , to asklemmy in Is Evil more powerful than Good? Why or why not?

It’s easier to gain power by evil means but it’s harder to hold on to it. Moral and good societies will rise together and cooperate to overcome challenges. Evil will constantly be stabbing each other in the back.

This is kind of simplistic view but it’s pretty much a trope as old as time and is kind of like George Lucas’ vision of the “evil” Sith and the “good” Jedi.

TORFdot0 , to asklemmy in What's a more niche sub that hasn't taken off here (yet) that you miss?

FantasyFootball was a pretty big sub on the other site that just hasn’t grown here yet. I’m doing my best to contribute and I do appreciate the thoughts and advice of everyone who does post to !fantasyfootball but I hope it can get to a more sustainable level of activity by season start

TORFdot0 , to asklemmy in What made you choose your instance?

Beehaw wouldn’t take sign ups without a CV submitted. Lemmy.ml was closed to sign ups and sh.it.just.works never sent me a confirmation email so I default to Lemmy.world

TORFdot0 , to linux in Lemmy Defederation Sync (LDS) to keep your block list up to date

I disagree that defederation hurts Lemmy. It doesn’t hurt it anymore than normal moderation hurt Lemmy. Users on defederated instances are more than able to create an account on a non problematic instance and follow the rules there.

Defederation is essentially Lemmy’s version of quarantining subs on Reddit. And nobody except maybe extremists thought quarantine was a bad idea

TORFdot0 , to asklemmy in What are your thoughts on bots and people posting only news articles on lemmy?

Whether or not it’s posted by a bot, real users are the one commenting and voting on it. It’s not going to be useful for spreading propaganda unless it’s something the user base already believes

I’m here and I have an ad-free, troll-free, wholesome community to engage with on mostly the same topics I followed on Reddit. I declare myself the winner

TORFdot0 , to news in A ‘failure to launch’: Why young people are having less sex

Even if you aren’t a kid, if you live at home, which has also risen in the same time period, then you aren’t having sex either

TORFdot0 , to fediverse in Lemmy is slowly getting better

I had an account from 2011 with several hundred thousand karma and I backup up my content and deleted my content from Reddit using power delete suite. The only time I go to Reddit is signed out from google search

TORFdot0 , to fediverse in Lemmy is slowly getting better

I find that I can fill in the gap for a lot of dead Lemmy communities by following hashtags on mastodon but it doesn’t have the same level of engagement as niche Reddit communities
