My views on Republicans are similar. The voters are both ignorant and poor, as well as selfish and wealthy. Those are two subsets of the same group. The leadership tends to fall into the latter category, with a few idiots thrown in for good measure.

Blue. If I take the red pill, I’ll end up in a mental hospital.

Don’t you have to beat it in under 10 hours for the first speed run achievement? HowLongToBeat says 27 hours for just the main story; 41.5 hours for main + sides. If you managed under 10 hours on your first run, you must be a serious metroidvania veteran.

I use mine for listening to audiobooks on an external speaker. Bluetooth speakers often cut off the beginnings of sentences due to the brief silence between them.

That’s what they said in The Matrix, isn’t it? 1999: the peak of human civilization. At the time, the future looked bright, but in the grand scheme of things, it hasn’t played out as we hoped.

Ultrasound can push vaccines into the body without needles (www.newscientist.com)

Vaccines can be delivered through the skin using ultrasound. This method doesn’t damage the skin and eliminates the need for painful needles. To create a needle-free vaccine, Darcy Dunn-Lawless at the University of Oxford and his colleagues mixed vaccine molecules with tiny, cup-shaped proteins. They then applied liquid...

Neat. I wonder if my grandchildren will see that technology in use, because I doubt it’ll happen in my lifetime.

So you’re saying it’s just as effective as a whistle that “keeps away dragons”? i.e. It’s an adequate deterrent for the bullshit it “prevents”?

Squirrel ,

Just to play the devil’s advocate: many of those thanking God are more expressing thanks for the circumstances that led to recovery. That includes that doctor, along with whatever knowledge and skill they have as a result of years of study and hard work. i.e. God put that doctor in their lives, rather than some quack.

The question implies that you would still have your human brain, not that you would think like an actual duck.

Should it have happened? No. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and all that. Prison shouldn’t be dangerous for inmates, no matter what they’ve done.

Am I upset to hear that the personification of “ACAB” got stabbed in prison? Also no.

It’s easier for people who don’t know what they’re doing. The limitations keep those users from breaking things and provide a decent out-of-the-box experience for the user. The very same limitations feel, well, limiting to users like you.

I mean, I’m not, but only because I am too lazy to change (so far). I’ve been remarkably content with the Steam Deck desktop experience, so I’m leaning more and more towards Linux.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 with my wife. A holiday break cut off our first game at the end of act 2, so I hope we make it through this time.

Soulstone Survivors by my lonesome. I’m on a bullet heaven binge, and this one seems pretty good.

Steam Deck Owners: What’s been your favorite game that you first discovered on Steam Deck and now you can’t seem to put down?

Looking for those games that you may have heard about but never tried until you got a Deck. Or old games on systems you never had that you’re trying for the first time. Or new AAA games that just released in the last year or two that you picked up for the first time specifically to play on Steam Deck and have kept you glued to...

So is this thing actually called a “Cybertruck”? Because that sounds like something my 7-year-old would come up with.

Squirrel ,
@Squirrel@thelemmy.club avatar

Oh no, I know Musk is childish. This was just the first time I thought about the name “Cybertruck.”

Squirrel ,
@Squirrel@thelemmy.club avatar

Yeah, that’s probably how my 7-year-old would pronounce it.

Squirrel ,

All of these puns, and nobody has called it a “dickle” yet?

Money may not buy happiness, but it certainly reduces suffering.

Oh, I like that one.

Angry Call of Duty Fans Are Review-Bombing the Wrong Modern Warfare 3 (www.ign.com)

Angry Call of Duty Fans Are Review-Bombing the Wrong Modern Warfare 3::Poor Modern Warfare 3. No, not the new one. The original one, from 2011. It’s getting review-bombed by angry Call of Duty fans who seem a bit confused about which Call of Duty is which.

Right, but they’re review bombing Modern Warfare 3, not CoD3.

Shrinkflation hits IKEA Family by removing 5% discount (i.imgur.com)

IKEA Family is a membership program, like grocery store memberships. The only real feature of the program was their 5% discount. But now, they are getting rid of it to focus on “New Lower Price offers”. I’m not holding my breath that their prices are going to come down anytime soon....

Squirrel ,
@Squirrel@thelemmy.club avatar

Per Wikipedia:

shrinkflation, also known as the grocery shrink ray, deflation, or package downsizing, is the process of items shrinking in size or quantity, or even sometimes reformulating or reducing quality, while their prices remain the same or increase.

I can’t see how furniture could ever qualify as shrinkflation, unless we’re counting something like the use of crappier materials.

Squirrel ,
@Squirrel@thelemmy.club avatar

That’s you paying more for the same thing: inflation. Shrinkflation would mean getting less for the same or more money.

I think most are willing to admit that. Admission does not equal conversation, though. I’m in that camp, but I am trying to cook more vegetarian meals – nowhere near 100%, but progress is progress.

Edit: I should clarify that I’m concerned with the environmental impact. I have no moral issues with eating meat. Environmentally, we’ve seen overwhelming evidence that vegetarianism would be beneficial, and that is why I am making an effort.

Someone else suggested fish sauce. That would work quite well, I believe.

It’s not that he’s a good person, it’s that he made the right decision at a critical moment. Still not a good decision, but a whole hell of a lot better than what he was prepared to do.

Squirrel ,

You see, this impacts them. Never mind that there’s no actual impact, they only want those among them who behave as expected. Also, he got excessive attention due to his attire, which gave him a bigger audience for his political views.

Squirrel ,
@Squirrel@thelemmy.club avatar

Those who dismiss him because of his attire would, most likely, not listen to him, regardless. It’s the others, who otherwise would know nothing of this man or his policies, who may be swayed in some way.

Could we use AI to update 4:3 media to 16:9?

I’ve been re-watching star trek voyager recently, and I’ve heard when filming, they didn’t clear the wide angle of filming equipment, so it’s not as simple as just going back to the original film. With the advancement of AI, is it only a matter of time until older programs like this are released with more updated...

Ooo, maybe we can get a nice blurred copy of the picture to fill the edges of the screen, just like TikTok!

I feel sick even jokingly suggesting that…

I don’t have a clue who more than half the characters are in these memes, but I still enjoy them. I watched TNG in my childhood, but not religiously, and I’ve barely seen anything since (until Strange New Worlds).

For all the doubters that Linux gaming is smoother and faster. (video.hardlimit.com)

A video for any doubters that Linux gaming is better than Windows in which it DESTROYS Windows by 25% in AC Odyssey. To put it in perspective, 25% improvement is like getting a new GPU. You can save $600 and instead use something like OpenSUSE Tumbleweed for free....

Squirrel ,
@Squirrel@thelemmy.club avatar

I just have to comment here about the “like getting a new GPU”, because do people really upgrade that frequently? I generally see a much bigger jump in performance when upgrading.
