Why do you want the sun to set early?

I’d rather have an extra hour of sun after work than an hour of sun before work

I think most people enjoy DST. Most complain when it’s dark at 5 pm.

Sludgeyy ,

“Summer time” is DST

If you removed DST, we would always be on standard time.

What you are saying is make DST permanent, not removing DST

Sludgeyy ,

Ahh, yes, 1002 people is a large sample size, like .003% of the population.

Your article is also about switching. Doesn’t say anything about if people would prefer to stay on DST or standard time.

Sludgeyy ,

If the 300m people lived in the same area and you got a true random sample.

Sunsets at 9:09 today in Michigan

Sunsets at 8:04 today in California

Sunsets at 8:34 today in North Carolina

Sunsets at 7:57 today in Alabama

Sunsets at 7:38 today in Arizona (They are on standard time)

Sunsets at 7:13 today in Hawaii

Sunsets at 11:36 today in Alaska

Someone in Arizona might want the sun to set at 7:38. It’s blazing hot all day.

Someone in Michigan might be fine with sunsetting at 8:08 with standard time.

Someone in Alabama might not want the sun to set at 6:57.

Someone in Hawaii probably doesn’t want the sun to set at 6:13.

Even if you split up the 1000 people to equally represent all states, that’s only 20 people per state.

You have to have grown up with it and gained an unconditional love of the characters. You don’t care that they are an asshole to a character you don’t like.

Look at Kramer he is so stupid he can’t figure out a washing machine! Lol he’s going to try to pour a bunch of detergent in next and act like he’s drunk because he’s that stupid! He’s so funny!

Edit: Remembered it wrong. He was pouring concrete into the washing machine. Classic asshole

No idea what that guy did to deserve a messed up washing machine.

Can confirm

“How’d you get your last name?” Is almost always brought up when I say it.

I’m a second generation Mexican/Finnish mix with a strong southern accent.

Having to mark my skin color down on the paper and then having to mark Hispanic in another place is common place.

Funny how Scandinavian is never an option. I’m as much Scandinavian as Hispanic.

Racism is weird.

“Can you pass me the bag of Legos”

If you wanted a box of adhesive bandages. You’d say “Can you pass me the box of band-aids?” or a tissue, “Can you pass me a kleenex?”

Companies do not want their brand to become generic trademarks.

It’s not because Lego is already pural

That’s the whole difference between torx vs Phillips.

Theoretically, you should never break a screw shaft with Phillips because they are designed to cam out before enough torque is applied to break the shaft of the screw.

Sending someone to a work camp is more humane than taking their life?

Sludgeyy ,

That’s why death penalty shouldn’t exist for crimes like a wife killing a husband. You might be 99.9% sure she poisoned him, but you cannot know for sure.

However, a school shooter caught red handed shooting a school?

Some crimes and scenarios can warrant the death penalty in my mind

Next argument is “what if the government framed people to execute them?”

Why in the world would the government point out that they are executing someone?

If the government (the rich controlled government) wants you dead they would do it quietly.

Even something as simple as cutting your brake lines. You really think local police are going to figure out that the government had soldier 65478 tamper with your brake lines?

Sludgeyy ,

So you’re okay with sending someone to a work camp if “they probably did it, more than likely”? Because at least it’s reversible…

So what if they have to spend 10 years breaking rocks in the sun. Oopsie daisies

Gravity is consistently pulling at 9.85m/s regardless of the size or density in an object.

Any object with mass has gravity

Say the moon was falling to earth

Would the earth not be drawn in space towards the moon as it fell?

The moon and earth would collide at a rate faster than 9.85m/s?

I wouldn’t even be against sharing some information so they could give me better ads

I’m not in the market for a new car. I don’t need car ads.

But knowing I shop at Something Hardware a lot and they are having a spring black friday sale on the tool I’ve been eyeing would be nice.

Even still Something Hardware just slapping their logo in an ad is not helpful at all.

Renting will be cheaper than buying for years, especially as home prices keep setting new all-time highs (fortune.com)

More bad news for anyone who wants to ever own a home: Home prices just went up again. The S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller U.S. National Home Price Index rose 6% in January, data released today shows; that’s up from a 5.6% increase in the previous month, setting the fastest annual gain since 2022. “On a seasonal adjusted basis,...

Sludgeyy ,

Let’s say an 18 year old moves out and starts renting

The average rent in US is 1.5k

30 years of payment is 540k

When that person is 48, they would have paid 540k in rent expenses

This is assuming that rent doesn’t increase

Throwing 600k out the window before you’re even 50 is not a recipe for success

76 is US average life expectancy. That’s ~25 more years of rent.

If they retire at 63. 13 years of 1.5k a month rent is 234k. They need a quarter million in retirement funds just for rent to live up until 76.

45 years of working for that 18 year old would need to make ~750k.

That’s 16.5k a year just to pay for rent

Again this is assuming rent never goes up.

That’s 8 dollars an hour 40 hours a week every week.

10% more than minimum wage, just for rent.

It’s crazy

And this assumes you die and don’t have to rent after the age of 76

Sludgeyy ,

0-150 is the better range, and 75 is right in the middle. 100 is just a hot air temperature most people don’t want to be in but it’s not an extreme.

Saunas can get up to 200 degrees

Hot tubs are usually at 100

Freezers need to be at least 0

You say 15°C. 6° cooler than room temperature. But how much is 6°?

It’s 60°F.

50°F or 10°C is where you need clothes to survive

300, 325, 350 is where you bake cookies (149-176°C)

Fahrenheit has a bunch of 5 and 10s

Saying something like high 70s or low 70s for temp represents an easy way to tell temperature.

21° to 26° for celcius

I walk outside and say “It feels like high 70s today” someone using celcius would say, “Feels like 25°”. If it was a little warmer than “low 80s” compared to “Ehh about 26 or 27°C”

Sludgeyy ,

0F is the temperature a freezer needs to be to keep food fresh.

50F is the point that you can’t survive without clothes, your body will not generate enough heat.

100F (38C) will not burn you alive. You can survive for a long time in a sauna at 200F.

100F is perfect hot tub temperature

Sludgeyy ,

Not sure where you got -4F from.

USDA, United States Department of Agriculture, recommends 0°F or -17.8°C

100°F in the shade isn’t extreme, and you’d be able to survive normally (With more water, everyone can use more water)

100°F is hot tub water

120°F is recommended hot tap water

140°F water will pretty much burn you instantly

Sludgeyy ,

your freezer at -18 °C (0 °F) or lower. This will keep your food out of the temperature danger zone between 4 °C (40 °F) to 60 °C (140 °F) where bacteria can grow quickly.

According to Canada.ca

Every 2 F is basically 1 C. You have more whole numbers with F.

Like -15°C is 5°F

6°F is -14.4444°C

-14°C is 6.8°F

So 5, 6, and 7°F are about equal to -15, -14.5, and -14°C.

And it’s not just a random number. You know how much more energy would be used if everyone kept their freezer just a couple degrees colder? It’s the optimum recommended temperature.

Now if Chat GPT could be like “Nah I’m not going to answer that because I don’t feel like it”

Yes “AI” can be programed to not answer certain things. E.g porn stuff. But it does not make the conscious choice to do so it is following programming.

Cost of living in NY > Cost of living in Nowhere, Kansas

Minimum wage of NY > Minimum wage of Nowhere, Kansas

This has nothing to do with what minimum wage should afford

I don’t agree with OP. We shouldn’t be striving to get people to work minimum wage. The minimum should be minimum. 2 BR is not minimum.

Now I’m all for a Basic Minimum Income. And if you need 2 BR and your low paying job isn’t enough, the BMI should cover it.

But this idea that the lowest working class needs to receive “minimum wage” is false. They need to receive fair pay, not the minimum the company is required to give them.

Sludgeyy ,

Yes and no

Should be a fair wage, but it’s not always a fair wage. In reality minimum wage will always lag behind inflation if you keep raising it to chase it.

Say minimum wage is $10

I work a job

Now, what is the company going to pay me?

$10

Fair wage is $12 for the job, but the business is only required to pay me $10.

In perfect economic conditions, I could go find another company that’s willing to pay me $12, but we all know someone struggling at the bottom can’t just simply switch jobs.

So the people that want to increase minimum wage want it to go to $12. To make it fair.

I’d say let them get $10, then tax the company and make sure the person gets $12, maybe even $14 if they need it.

Easy way to do %

Say you want 6% of 45

Seems hard right?

1% of 45 is .45

.45 × 6 =

.4 × 6 = 2.4

.05 × 6 = .3

2.4 + .3 = 2.7

So 6% of 45 is 2.7

Extra:

Say you want an item that is 40 dollars and it is 20% off.

10% is 4 dollars.

20% is 8 dollars.

So item would be 32 dollars.

Sludgeyy ,

1% of 33 is .33

.33 × 7 =

.3 x 7 = 2.1

.03 x 7 = .21

21 + 2.1 = 2.31

So

7% of 33 = 2.31

You could also do

33% of 7

10% of 7 is .7

1% of 7 is .07

So 11% is .77

.77 × 3 =

.7 × 3 = 2.1

.07 × 3 = .21

2.1 + .21 = 2.31
