Isn’t that a sign the pizza is too big? Never seen these things before…

Ronno ,

Hit a dog with a stick everyday, one day the dog will bite. Sure, the biting isn’t good behavior and must be called out, but it could have been expected given the actions that led to the incident.

That’s not what I meant to say though

The thing is, Israel has been bullying, then you cannot be surprised by the reaction. Even though the reaction itself isn’t good at all. Both sides share the blame of this war and humanitarian crisis

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

I don’t condone how and what they are doing. But I don’t negate the fact that something like a big assault on Israel was bound to happen.

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Awesome timing, was about to add a whole lot of them to my new house, guess that ain’t happening

Ronno ,

I’m adding the ones I have to home assistant, which is what I was planning all along. Maybe add some other brand smart lights, not sure yet which

The problem is not flying itself, it’s the lack of stimulus to make flying green. If governments would actually tax jet fuel, we probably would have figured out hydrogen based airplanes by now. We should stop blaming consumers for wanting to live a good and fulfilling live and start pressuring companies to do what is right. We have the tech, we just don’t have the right “incentive” for these companies.

X wants permission to start collecting your biometric data and employment history (www.theverge.com)

“Based on your consent, we may collect and use your biometric information for safety, security, and identification purposes,” the privacy policy reads. It doesn’t include any details on what kind of biometric information this includes — or how X plans to collect it — but it typically involves fingerprints, iris...

This is also the case in The Netherlands. I live in a "city" with 15.000 residents, whilst there are "villages" with 100.000. Just because newer places(?) never got the ceremonial title of city.

Strange thing is that they are not even valuing their own privacy. Adding “backdoors” to E2E encryption, or whatever that means, will also impact them. If a backdoor exists, malicious parties will find and exploit it. Legislators own messages, videos, photos and other media will no longer be safe either

Who says flexible batteries couldn't be made replaceable? The might have to attach it differently than using glue, but other than that, I don't see why it can't be replaceable. Additionally, replaceable does not have to mean that you can just click open a back cover and pull it out. It could also mean that you have to remove x number of screws to remove it, which is still fine.

It is probably the only thing that can really buy us time. Sure we cannot dispose of its waste currently, but it buys us time to find a way. We will find a way to solve the waste issue. Besides, the waste produced is actually quite little, and we do have great solutions for storage. As for your second point, Chernobyl could have been an even worse disaster indeed, but it is a plant built in a time when it was fashionable to built bigger and larger plants. Today, the strategy is to built the plants smaller, making the impact of such disaster also smaller.

Its been here for decades. It was already mandatory to provide an iris scan upon arrival in the US back when I visited New York in 2013. At the time, I was already baffled it was a requirement and wasn't happy, but at that moment there is nothing else to do then comply. The US probably has a very big iris scan, fingerprint and passport database of at least the western world.

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

No clue, I’m a Dutch citizen. Do your require to do an iris scan to get a passport in the USA? Might be covered there.

Its Raccoons, 100% raccoons

My dog and I got jumped by raccoons this morning. Now I have to pay at least $1500 to make sure I don't get rabies

My dog is fine, though, which is the most important thing to me. The raccoons scratched my arm kinda bad and my legs are covered in scratches. My doctor can’t be sure if the raccoons had saliva on their claws, and wants me to get rabies shots just in case. She sent me to an ER because she can’t get the shots in our area....

Most countries don’t have free healthcare. But require people to be insured. E.g here in NL you have to have atleast basic coverage costing roughly 140 euro a month

PlayStation 5 Pro ‘Project Trinity’ Details And Release Date (keytogaming.com)

PS5 Pro is expected late 2024, with the PS6 expected 2028. If Microsoft is to try to keep pace, as someone who doesn't have either console, it will be interesting to see if they also brand this as a mid-generation refresh or if they stick to their guns they've been touting for a while of being "beyond generations".

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

2028 it is then.
I tried buying the PS5 when it released, and couldn’t get my hands on one for nearly a year. Then I saw the content lagging and decided not to buy the PS5. I still don’t see why I would want a PS5 today. I got a fairly decent PC, so that can carry me for another 5 years or so

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

It’s mainly because the titles are being released on pc anyway (with some delays)

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Yeah, same here in NL, rainy summer so far

Yeah same, pretty sure the Russian branch of our company is separated now. Perhaps it is mainly represented because contractual obligations couldn’t be broken as easily

The real marketing trick is making you believe it is a cookie, and not some mixture of weird chemicals and ingredients that can only be identified by a code.

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Every artificially created ingredient has a code, for instance here in Europe we have ingredients listed as E-numbers. These ingredients are often used to replace organical/natural ingredients. You will see that if you buy pasta sauce in the grocery store, they've probably added some E-numbers to make the color of the sauce more red. These ingredients are not necessary at all, these are either marketing instruments to make the food look more "tasty" or to replace a more expensive product with a replacement chemical. We don't know the long-term effects of these artificially added ingredients yet, but what I do know is that I know more and more people with allergies related to these artificial ingredients.

37m in one country. Considering the size if the market share in Norway, this is quite a huge fine. If only other countries would do the same. Imagine 37m x 160 or so countries where Meta is active

I don’t want it to turn into Telegram, just give me a lightweight, secure and privacy focused messaging app.

It will be difficult to switch my friend groups again, now that they are finally on Signal

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Well no, not here (NL).
But I am not surprised that this is a thing in the USA

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

6’2”? That’s pretty average here to be honest

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Nope, our spoil isn’t dense enough for it. We cannot build higher then what you see in Rotterdam, because the building would just fall over

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Not sure if there isnt any, but I know most of it is soft. It is the reason why Amsterdam and Rotterdam cannot have a skyline like New York, which has unique properties that allows the Americans to build that high

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Yeah indeed, was sitting next to a someone on the bus the other day, she was browsing social media (I’m not even sure which app), she had to stop every minute or so to watch an ad. Wasn’t even phased about it. It is in those moments that I think the NPC theory is real, but I doubt it can be

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

That’s a bit harsh, isn’t it? We had widespread lockdowns and other big measures. If we didn’t care, we wouldn’t have had those

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Yeah indeed, the paper bags are more polluting to produce than its plastic equivalent. The many problem with plastics is that it does more damage when it ends up in nature, but it is recyclable though.

We should stop blaming the people/consumers and start blaming the large corporations that dump PFAS in our drink water supply, like they did here in The Netherlands and Belgium. That does lore harm than the plastic straws ever did

Are you saying that earth might be defending itself against our aggression? Interesting

  • why would Turkey want it? More people will flee the country to other European countries, EU multinationals will compete the living shit out of the local companies. I don’t see much benefit for Turkey to join, while they are this economically weak (no offense)
Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Well, they need to know your device rotation to serve you the perfect ads! /s
Seriously, I wouldn't mind them knowing a thing or two about me, when I'm using their services. But tracking everything, just because they can, is just obnoxious. If you would translate this to the real world, you would definitely get arrested when you would stand on the corner of the street, noting down everything you see, every dimension/detail of every person walking by. You would be labeled "creep". But if Facebook does it, governments go like: You can build your new data center right here, don't mind the measly peasants that currently live in the village nearby

@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

None of the candidates could handle the pressure /s

It is sad that the kid got shot, but lets not pretend he was innocent.

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

I thought this was about police violence? But sure. Oh and p.s, from a rational point of view, the pension age cannot stand as is, and must be increased to ensure pension for all

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

It's not just about money, it's about workforce. Imagine being in a nursery, without nurses available. As for the money, you cannot expect society to pay for a specific standard of living for too long. The workforce must support the people that are not working. Now that we are getting older on average, it would mean that the workforce will have to support more non working people. Imagine that you retire at 60, but people now live on average to 80, which is increasing every decade now

There are really only two options here, increase retirement age, or increase taxes on the workforce. Take your pick.

Ronno ,
@Ronno@kbin.social avatar

Never said we can’t, we definitely should. But will it be enough?
