Yet the game still constantly crashes and has weapons and armor that have no effects.

PrettyLights ,

The option to skip was there 20 minutes after launch until now.

It said required in the popup, but still had a skip button with no consequences.

Police officer fired gun while clearing protesters from Columbia building, prosecutors say (apnews.com)

A police officer who was involved in clearing protesters from a Columbia University administration building earlier this week fired his gun inside the hall, a spokesperson for District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office confirmed Thursday....

There’s no manual safety to disengage on Glock handguns, a common standard issue sidearm.

They have safeties such as a split trigger, but they’re intended to stop negligent discharges. There’s no switch or button to turn it on and off a “safe” mode.

PrettyLights ,

I may have misused the term, thanks. As far as the split trigger my understanding is that’s for cases where your finger or other object unintentionally partially pulls the trigger.

There’s an additional safety on glocks for drops where the firing pin is blocked by the trigger bar unless the trigger is pulled in a manner that satisfies the split trigger mechanism.

My friend group all use the same one though to pollute the data.

Use cash for this strategy. If you’re using credit or debit cards they can separate the data that way.

PrettyLights ,

Good point. I believe they do generate a temporary virtual card number but I’m unsure if it removes all potentially identifying information from the transaction.

Pi.Alert is dead...💀 Long live NetAlert X 🚀 (network monitoring) (lemmy.world)

After thinking for about a year about it I decided to rename the project to 🚀NetAlertX. This will help prevent confusion about which fork someone is using, and differentiate it from the now stale upstream project. With about 1800 or so commits over the stale project, I thought, this project deserved a new name. It will also...

PrettyLights ,

I had a similar issue and it was due to a typo in my Timezone field for Compose

Tesla still has advantages like an extensive charger network and the appearance of FSD on the horizon to general consumers. People that follow EV closely know there are better options, but they’re a minority.

Not to mention the fact that places like Lemmy give the company and its CEO never-ending free press and coverage.

PrettyLights ,

Sure?

That doesn’t affect reality though.

PrettyLights ,

Thus why I specifically said appearance and also mentioned it was for the uninformed.

I don’t believe FSD is anywhere close to commercially viable for Tesla.

Reality doesn’t matter when you’re selling an idea or image. Its really easy to get lost in our nerd bubble and think everyone else reads about this stuff every day.

PrettyLights ,

Its not an impulse spend, its a lengthy history of hearing that Teslas are THE option for EV.

Normies who have seen or heard of Teslas for well over a decade now aren’t going to be easily swayed by an upstart company or the latest Nissan Leaf.

Elon’s image after Twitter in my opinion has done way more to dissuade potential buyers than anything Tesla itself or other car manufacturers have done.

PrettyLights ,

What EV cars are these normie friends of yours buying instead? As in actually purchased, not plan to purchase.

PrettyLights ,

Then why do their opinions matter? They aren’t in the market for any EV, as you said in an earlier post.

My normie friends with EV have bought teslas and I don’t know anyone except EV nerds that have bought any other manufacturer since the first gen Leaf.

PrettyLights ,

I don’t know why you’re so intent on giving this perspective when you don’t know anyone actually following it.

PrettyLights ,

Enter legally how?

This isn’t my experience, at least not with highly qualified H1B or other technical workers. I know some that have been waiting 5-10+ years. They work diligently and study hard, but there’s more to the process.

PrettyLights ,

Desync still isn’t fully fixed, although in Nov 2023 they announced stsrting a networking codebase rebuild to try and fix it so maybe in the future it will be.

In 2022 they announced they were putting desync on hold due to other higher priority issues.

This is the same team that said they couldn’t add Slayer at launch because their brand new engine made it too difficult to add

PrettyLights ,

If the US wasn’t largely compromised by Russian assets, Tucker being one of them, would this war have even started?

Uh, yeah most likely. See: 2014 Annexation

PrettyLights ,

You don’t have to walk away, you can migrate.

We tried that with Lemmy and many great communities only have one or two people posting consistently.

Most people don’t care about behind the scenes

PrettyLights ,

I just checked the Star Trek community on reddit and it’s still up with 753k members and 189 online. The Lemmy versions I can find are a fraction of that.

The idea of Lemmy is great but let’s not fool ourselves into thinking big communities actually migrated.

PrettyLights ,

Then its not a migration, which is what we’re talking about.

If you’re happy leaving a group of thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands in some communities for a group of 100 that’s cool, but don’t spin it as a successful migration.

The rest of the world didn’t even realize we left.

PrettyLights ,

I’d say actual daily users are less than 10k

So 100 times bigger, by your own estimate?

They created a new community, sure. The reddit community didn’t migrate though.

PrettyLights ,

So if a poster from the Star Trek Lemmy moves to Facebook Groups and brings along a small fraction of the userbase, is it fair to say the Star Trek Lemmy community migrated to Facebook?

PrettyLights ,

What festivals aren’t providing water stations anymore?

Most people just don’t look for the stations, or don’t want to wait in the longer line.

PrettyLights ,

I stopped riding in cabs after the umpteenth time of getting pressured to pay in cash instead of credit card or being told the “meter was broken” and I had to pay a flat rate.

Ridesharing has a lot of problems but they’re a much better customer experience.

PrettyLights ,

I want to blame the company but from their point of view this business model works so I understand why it keeps happening.

Steam refunds are great for situations like these but I doubt the average casual knows how easy it is. The other platforms are much stricter on refunds.

There’s also the culture shift of gamers defending broken releases with “at least they fixed it!” Or “they released a roadmap for future fixes” that encourages early releases.

What democrats can we vote for that aren’t part of the DNC machine? What are their names?

PrettyLights ,

But who are you recommending we’re writing in exactly? Who is a real democrat but not beholden to the DNC?

What is their name?

PrettyLights ,

Bernie and Elizabeth Warren both toe the DNC line and endorsed Biden without a fair primary what are you talking about?

apnews.com/…/bernie-sanders-biden-endorsement-202…

You claimed that the DNC are the problem and not “real democrats”, but all these so called real democrats are DNC stooges.

PrettyLights ,

Nope. The DNC did that. “Democrats” did not.

Democrats did it by falling in line and providing endorsements dictated by their DNC masters.

Just block me if you can’t handle an opposing viewpoint, enjoy your echo chamber.

You can’t provide any name for us to vote for, you fall in line with the DNC you claimed made the situation.

PrettyLights ,

Glad you took my advice

I’ll see you around

PrettyLights ,

In a forum there should be dissenting opinions, however those are downvoted to oblivion.

As opposed to what, Lemmy World??? This place is the same just fewer users.

PrettyLights ,

please people on Lemmy are less insane than reddit

Laughable. Reddit actually bans the insane fringes, then they come here.

PrettyLights ,

wherever I went there always were dude promoting genocide while all pretending to be from different side of the political spectrum

We are seeing that happen on Lemmy all 2024 so far.

PrettyLights ,

“Apparently” is doing a lot of work here. This is the story the group of teens that beat Nex gave the police

Did you listen to Nex’s recorded statement? Nex volunteered the idea that they poured water and initiated the confrontation because the others were possibly “laughing at them”.

Nex is also on camera filling up the bottle and going into the bathroom to confront the group.

Does that mean Nex deserved to be beaten by a group of people? No and they should be investigated. But stop making up facts to suit your narrative or ignoring information that contradicts what you hoped happened.

PrettyLights ,

Nex provided a recorded audio and video statement, I’m confused on how so many people are interested in the story but won’t listen to the firsthand accounts.

Alternate timeline: Surge priced fast-food becomes a status symbol. People buy used Wendy’s packaging in order to hide their homemade food and not be made fun of.

PrettyLights ,

I think it’s still worth doing so your phone isn’t rapidly trying to connect and disconnect from nearby cell towers as you ascend and descend. Maybe there’s already protections in place for this case but it makes sense that it could add a lot of unnecessary strain on certain cell towers.

PrettyLights ,

How do you feel about the Amish using buggies on roads without license plates or paying gas tax?

PrettyLights ,

50% margins aren’t that high for a “cutting edge” low volume product.

Civic cars are high volume with an established market and consumer base.

Not everything is an apples to apples comparison.

I’ll never buy one because I use Arch BTW, but there needs to be a profit incentive for new tech to be developed, otherwise we get rehashes of the same old same old.

PrettyLights ,

I’ve never bought a new “cutting edge” product that’s cost more then what it should, and I’m pretty into technology/computers

What products specifically are you considering?

But also, you mentioned Arch, so I got to ask, are pantyhose conformable?

They’re socks

PrettyLights ,

They’re advertisers disguised as reviewers.

PrettyLights ,

ACG on YouTube I feel does a great job at this if he’s following his publicized guidelines. He doesn’t do any sponsored content nor accept paid for trips from the gaming industry and when he receives a free copy of the game for review purposes he purchases a copy to give away to the audience. Accepting the free early copies and paying to give one away on release seems like a good compromise to ensure he can get the review out near the embargo date.

A lot of the player count on steam is users AFK idling so they don’t have to get stuck in queue again. My discord friend list is a ton of idle users on Helldivers 2 all day and night

PrettyLights ,

I’m still waiting on the Switch Pro that’s been clickbaited by so many “insiders” and analysts over the years.

PrettyLights ,

Even if he loses the election I predict a pardon to “protect the institution” and “heal the nation”.

PrettyLights ,

Then why did they need to change laws and enact emergency powers to deal with them?

If it wasn’t a peaceful protest it should have been easy to handle with existing laws.
