It’s not about you being copied and destroyed. It’s about of continued consciousness. You are continually being killed and replaced by neurons dying off and others replacing the function. The problem is getting the information off the neurons without copy and kill. The key would be continuous transfer of neurons over time to a more longlived replacement. So you is still you and not you thinks it’s still you. Also… It’s up for debate if that matters as you are still a copy if you do nothing. But it solves the continued consciousness problem.

I was testing some code late at night in the test system. Rolled out the changes, log on to the admin interface and write a short news article about how one of the more hated profs at the university had died suddenly and unexpectedly.

Result looks good, roll out changes to prod, about to call it quits for the night. Think to myself: common reason people get fired, maybe delete the story from test system. Check test system, no story there… Uhoh.

Story has been live for about three hours. Hope no spiders have caught it yet, hurry to delete it and learn how to purge all evidence from database.

Turns out the shithead admin had copy and pasted the server config for the test system from live and forgotten to change the admin rewrite rules to test system. Phew…

Well you have nearly the complete story. IANAL, IANAA (not American). I would wager this argument won’t work due to subdivisions of the Disney corporation into a lot of sub corporations. The terms of service and any other contract are usually between the consumer and the relevant sub corporate entity. This is usually what protects the parent corporation from one arm of the business spreading it’s risk to the rest of the corporate body. In this case, arguments reaching across that would risk spreading throughout the company… Weird that they would risk it.

The detector is most likely a machine learning algorithm. That said, releasing that would allow for adversarial training. (An LLM that would not be detected). Therefore they can only offer maybe an api to use it but can not give unlimited access to the model.

Help me understand littering

I consider myself to be the kind of person who can quite easily imagine myself in someone else’s place. I don’t know if I’m actually any better at it than the average person, but judging by the comment sections on social media and the conversations I’ve had with other people, I really struggle to get angry at strangers...

Common reasons for littering are:

  • unavailability of trash cans (in a convenient distance)
  • inability to pay for trash disposal (this includes transport of heavy items or a large quantity of)
  • creation of jobs associated with trash removal (often including arguments that tax payers fund those jobs and as a taxpayer it’s their right to litter)

Exaggerated are these issues by low social education fueling short sightedness (“out of view out of mind”). So people lacking the understanding that somebody has to pay for removal of that waste.
