CAD$650/month in Canada. I’ve lost 36 Kg (80 lbs) and I’m still losing weight. My blood work shows no signs of diabetes, my cardiac indicators are also excellent, but my hemoglobin is low because I don’t eat beef anymore (not because of the Ozempic, I haven’t been able to digest it for about six years.) I’m taking an iron supplement to build it back up.

Ozempic sucks until you stop fighting it. After that it’s an easy ride.

I’m wearing an XL t-shirt and large sweat pants today down from 3XL in both eight months ago.

It acts by slowing down the emptying of your stomach. That means that whatever you eat stays in your stomach for many hours. If you eat too much at night or something that is acidy or spicy it causes terrible heart burn and reflux/regurgitation. I take an omeprazole with sodium bicarbonate at bedtime to relieve the acid.

I eat a granola bar or a couple of eggs for breakfast then a small bowl of whatever is on offer for dinner and that’s it. My stomach is never empty. Sometimes, if I want to have something spicy or acidy I will have it for breakfast. I’ve had a fajita for breakfast and I once had chicken parm for breakfast. Then I eat something easy for dinner.

The most upsetting side effect was the fact that I went from a daily bathroom guy to every three or four days. I was eating so much less and my body was making such good use of what I ate that I just didn’t produce much. It can cause constipation but you need to avoid taking laxatives because you can become dependant. Just drink lots of water, eat lots of fiber, and walk a lot and you will be fine.

If you fight it it’s going to make you miserable. If you lean in you will lose a lot of weight fast. I’ve lost so much weight so quickly that my body freaks me out a bit. When I’m sitting on the edge of the bed and look down at my legs I don’t recognize them. I told someone a few weeks ago that I just wanted a little candy because I’m fat and she said, “No you’re not.”

On the plus side I mentioned to my doctor that I was getting shorter (in in my late 50s and went from 5’ 10 1/2" to 5’ 9 1/2" and he asked, “Your penis?” I said, “No, that’s getting longer!” He laughed and said, “It was hiding.” I’ve actually gained an inch and a half of useable penis. (That’s a happy side effect.)

My wife’s family are in mining. I’ve seen coal, coal mines, mine tailings, coke ovens, coke, coal trucks and coal trains, and I’ve driven mining roads on a family vacation. I have a little vial of Cominco coal as a souvenir.

How are you flossing? I start at the back on the top, wriggle the floss in between my teeth, then bend the floss over one tooth and rub it up and down against the tooth down to the gum line. Then, I bend it over the other tooth and do the same. The goal is to clean the tooth right down to below the gum line. You want to get below the edge of the gum to clean the pocket around the base of the tooth. You don’t want to injured the gum.

I started years ago when my doctor told me it would shorten my life if I didn’t floss. Now I can’t stand staring the day with unflossed teeth.

Take it easy on your gums. It will get better quickly.

They is an important lesson in this. Taking up arms against the government has two possible outcomes.

  1. You end up in prison.
  2. You and up dead.

You are one person with a small number of consumer firearms. The government can show up with a virtually unlimited number of people, with bigger guns, and weapons up to and including tanks, helicopters, and precision guided bombs.

Whatever collective fantasy you have about you and a group of friends overthrowing the government with your AR15s end up with you in prison or dead.

The balance of power is dramatically different now.

Then the people had long sticks with sharp points, the government had long sticks with sharp points.

Now the people have AR15s, the government had B52s that can drop Ninja bombs from 40,000 feet and kill you while you’re having a cigarette on your balcony.

But by all means, get out your AR15s and give it a go.

In the 14xxs the balance of power was fairly even. They didn’t have B52s dropping ninja bombs or A10s or helicopters with mini guns. Gravy Seals will die if they take on the government.

The peasant and knight could see each other. They had to be within a few yards of each other. The US government could take you out from an airplane 10 miles up and you would just end without knowing it was coming.

But, as I say, by all means, bring it. The rest of us would like to have it over and get on with our lives.

There’s a distinct difference between 400 million people who don’t want to live under a christofascist dictatorship and 30 million do think they do. The reality is that there are a very small number of people who are willing to continue to live out their collective fantasy after they see someone standing beside them lose their head to a 7.62 bullet. Everything changes when you’re on a two way range. The attack on congress was ended when a single bullet ripped through the chest of a single traitor and everyone thought, "Holy fucking shitballs! They’re shooting white people! They’re going to fucking kill us! "

The problem with collective fantasies in echo chambers is that no one ever says, “They’re going to be shooting back with more powerful weapons. How many of us are going to die and what will happen if we lose?”

You never lose in a collective fantasy.

That’s not the situation in the US. The vast majority don’t want a christofascist dictatorship. The army decides who wins any revolution. You don’t beat the army, you get it on your side. Most of the members of the army don’t want a christofascist dictatorship, either, and the leadership definitely don’t want one. If the Trumpists try to take up arms to install Trump as dictator they end up in prison or dead and the US survives.

Yes, I understand exactly what it means. It means that the steel is less prone to corrosion but it does not mean that it won’t corrode. It’s pretty basic metallurgy.

Stainless steel is typically specified because of its ability to resist corrosion in a variety of environments. Unfortunately, stainless steel is not fully stain or rust-proof, it is just more resistant to corrosion that’s why it’s called stain less steel.

They are going to offer your a discount to keep their service. Maybe if they had offered you a better price in the first place you wouldn’t be trying to cancel. Making it hard to cancel so that they can offer you discounts to stay is a way to keep prices high for everyone else. It’s a way to maximize profits. Why not simply put a one click, “cut my bill in half” button on the website?

This is one that I deal with all the time with the extreme right, the extreme left, the extreme LGBTQ…, the extreme vegans etc.

No, we don’t. Some starting positions are so ridiculous that they leave no room for negotiation. No one is owed a negotiation. Sometimes the answer is, “No.”

EDIT: A couple of pedantic extremist apologists and a small brigade of their friends tried to shout and insult me down. They failed. They weren’t interested in a conversation, just silencing someone whose message they didn’t like. Do you know how I know this? Not a single one of them asked me to explain myself. Not a single one asked me why am extremist is an extremist.

All extremists have a pathological belief that they are somehow superior and that that superiority justified their anti-social behavior. So neo-Nazi extremists have a pathological belief that they are racially superior and that that superiority justifies harassing, intimidating, and threatening people they believe are racially inferior to leave. Vegan extremist believe that they are morally superior and that that moral superiority justifies their harassing, intimidating, and bullying restaurateurs butchers, grocers, farmers, and their customers to change their diets to comply with the extremists beliefs.

So, the (pedantic) details may be different but the underlying pathology is the same.

An extremist is an extremist. They’re all pathological assholes with grandiose delusions.

For example, all extremists resort to pretty insults when their attempts to derail the conversation fail. They also attempt to brigade anyone they don’t agree with into silence but downvotes on Lemmy are completely impotent and leave the extremists flailing pathetically. Extremists are extremists. They have different causes and hate different people but their behaviours are very, very similar and they are very easy to spot.

My point was that some opening positions were not worthy of negotiation. The commenter tried to derail the conversion by being pedantic about different types of extremists not being the same. I didn’t bite so he and his limp noodle brigade started downvoting and insulting me. I’m not a weak minded tool so I stayed on message and simply taunted them, as I am now doing you, for being utterly ineffective and impotent.

I’ve been around long enough to know that 10-12 downvotes on every comment in a dead thread with only three participants is a brigade. You can say it isn’t but that doesn’t change that it is and that anyone who looks at it can see that it is.

For the uninitiated, generally NSFW is for sexual contents and NSFL is for gory contents. People may want to see one but not see the other at any time for any reason. I have seen this feature requested over the years in Reddit but it never happens. Maybe now some instance can finally implement it?

Also NSFV for not suitable for vegans for anything involving animals, meat, or animal processing. That way we can tag those posts and if they complain about them we know they’re just raging because they’re insufferable assholes.

EDIT: Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting that all vegans are insufferable assholes. I know a bunch of vegans who are awesome people. I’m just suggesting that the ones who rage at people who don’t share their beliefs and who try to shove their beliefs down other people’s throats are insufferable assholes.
