Look into cost plus drugs maybe. Apparently they are trying to shine a light on all the scummy stuff happening in the industry.

MacroCyclo ,

Why are you so sure the gift is for you?

MacroCyclo ,

Using the name before deciding on it is definitely a critical part of picking a good name.

MacroCyclo ,

My neighbor named her dog Isis like the Greek God. It was not timely lol

MacroCyclo ,

Shows how much I listened to her about it. Whoops!

MacroCyclo ,

Zelensky supports absolutely anyone that will put a gun in his hand. If I were in his shoes, I would too.

MacroCyclo ,

Anybody know of a way to reduce micropastic pollution from tires that isn’t parking your car? It seems like an inevitable side effect of all tires.

MacroCyclo ,

Are you from Wisconsin?

MacroCyclo ,

Is anyone else going through and guessing at where people are from?

All the cheese people I’m guessing are either French or from the American Midwest (the former eating significantly different cheese than the latter). The tea people are probably British. Peanut Butter is likely a North America only thing.

MacroCyclo ,

That’s ok, your country is the size of a province.

MacroCyclo ,

Not sure why you got downvoted. I don’t know what a tankie is, but the rest is spot on.

MacroCyclo ,

Oh wow, now I understand why I disagree with them so much. Being communist is one thing, but being antidemocratic is a whole other thing. Thanks for the explanation!

How do you deal with being broke?

I’m in my 30s so I should be used to this by now, but this shit is getting so stressful guys. I have no savings, my checking account is drained every month with rent, and if there’s ever a serious emergency I have no safety net, I’m legitimately fucked. I’m one unplanned expense away from absolute ruin. Those in the same...

MacroCyclo ,

Yeah, but unfortunately it’s par for the course on lemmy.

MacroCyclo ,

There’s a lot more column B on the personal finance lemmy if you want to go further!

MacroCyclo ,

There are authors starting to publish without a publisher. I think that is the right direction, not making all books free. Maybe once the publishers have less control there will be some copyright reforms to shorten the time it takes to bring works into the public domain. Right now it is 95 years from publishing, but I think the author’s life plus 30 years or something might make a bit more sense. For example, George Orwell has been dead for over 70 years, but his works are still under copyright.

MacroCyclo ,

Yeah, mine are copper

MacroCyclo ,

The two largest sources of microplastics are clothing and car tires. Clothing is a pretty easy fix. Only buy natural fibers like cotton, wool, etc. For car tires you will have to drive less. These two sources account for more than half of microplastics.

MacroCyclo ,

??? Cotton is usually the cheapest thing I see.

Even natural rubber makes microplastics.

MacroCyclo ,

The plotline to stardew valley comes to mind.

MacroCyclo ,

I don’t know if it is quite as simple as that. Most recently the bank failures were because those banks got upside down on bond holdings due to rate increases. If everyone chilled out and took their money out in appropriate time, then the bank would have had all the money. They just couldn’t get all the money immediately due to the duration of their bond holdings.

A lot of people are saying Capitalism. Is it straight up capitalism that is the scam or the myth of financial mobility? (the American dream)

MacroCyclo ,

a Shapiro-esque fit

🤣🤣🤣

I’m using that line

First U.S. nuclear reactor built from scratch in decades enters commercial operation in Georgia (www.nbcnews.com)

First U.S. nuclear reactor built from scratch in decades enters commercial operation in Georgia::ATLANTA — A new reactor at a nuclear power plant in Georgia has entered commercial operation, becoming the first new American reactor built from scratch in decades.

MacroCyclo ,

This encapsulates the public response to building nuclear. I guess that is why it is the first in decades.

MacroCyclo ,

I guess you would have to sift the scientific literature to get a general idea. It would be the least biased source. Being totalitarian really helps with nuclear. Just look at what Germany has been up to.

MacroCyclo ,

I think this flies a bit too far in the other direction. China is totalitarian. It is not a democracy. It is also increasingly antagonizing nations abroad. I think it is valid to consider it a threat if you are any other nation, period.

Edit: Kinda like Russia

MacroCyclo ,

Yeah, China was a major ally, but it is showing its dark (autocratic) side lately.

MacroCyclo ,

I mean, if you haven’t been there or don’t know anyone from there you could pretend they are a democracy, but they are authoritarian like Russia is authoritarian. Long term they will seek a wider swath to be authoritarian over.

MacroCyclo ,

It’s not from ignorance. It’s based on the people I know from China.

MacroCyclo ,

The tech has been known for decades. It just needs clean hydrogen. You can either go the hydrogen fuel cell route, or combine it with CO2 to make liquid fuel, but the source of hydrogen is the crux of the problem.

Meet the latest way the superrich prove they're really, totally worried about the environment: $10 million electric superyachts (www.businessinsider.com)

Meet the latest way the superrich prove they’re really, totally worried about the environment: $10 million electric superyachts::Electric cars? The superrich have already moved on to electric yachts.

MacroCyclo ,

See communist China for a primer on why it’s not a great idea to discourage success.

MacroCyclo ,

They aren’t all that communist anymore.

MacroCyclo ,

Here in Montreal we have the hottest muggiest summers and the brutalest freezing cold winters. It makes me want to move to the maritimes.
