How the fuck do you imagine “co-habitating” with polar bears??? That’s like starving a wolf and telling it to “co-habitate” with a baby.
Yes, it sucks that we have forced polar bears out of their natural habit and that they now have to hunt humans for food, however if something starts hunting humans for food it’s just gonna get killed.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

It’s not just an assumption. Polar bears will hunt humans. They’re the absolute apex predator in their habitat so why shouldn’t they just hunt everything that moves?

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Lol, polar bears do not avoid humans, that’s like running away from food

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Fuck no, that would only encourage digging because it’s too suspicious.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah that seems like it should work :D

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

The animals don’t do any digging. They just report the death smell, and the handlers then have to dig and confirm why the dog reported.

What? The flyers promote the discrimination and criminalisation of a minority group, versus your example which would be promoting minority rights.
Those aren’t comparable.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Yes??? What kinda bullshit take is that?
The whole issue with capital punishment is that you can’t ever be sure, and you have to do your best to make sure you’re punishing the correct person.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

No, but it clearly isn’t important enough to them to influence their choice.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Same here. Going from a 1990 VW Passat to a 2009 Yaris was wild.

@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

No, they shouldn’t because even in vehicle to vehicle collisions SUVs kill 4 times more people than cars. Source
The people that have a legitimate use for such trucks should be required to apply for a exception and/or have a CDL.
Because in fact almost no one actually needs those trucks. Source [1]
Most people can use a trailer or rent a truck for the 1-2 times per year they need it.

[1] I work at a hardware store, specifically in the construction materials department. In 2 years of working there I had literally 1 person use their truck bed to haul a pallet of concrete bags, everyone else either used vans or a trailer. And just 2 weeks ago I had the first customer that used a pickup truck (Mercedes X-Class) to tow a 2.5t trailer to transport paving slabs.
So no, even trades people don’t need those trucks, so why the fuck should a normal “civilian” have those and be 4 times as likely to kill someone??

It’s extremely difficult to cool things in space, as everything is basically insulated in a vacuum.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

It’s definitely possible, however nukes have like 30-40% efficiency so to cool even a tiny 10 kW reactor you’d need twice the capacity the ISS currently has (14kW) for just the reactor without any safety margins.

SYML - Mr Sandmann in my ass

Yeah, that sounds pretty irritating

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

It is only appearing on prime content tho?

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

The problem is that something unexpected happend, so now we gotta understand it.
Was it caused by something during ascent? Now that’s a problem.
If it’s something that was caused during decent we “only” need to understand how to spot it, but it won’t be a critical flight safety problem.

They’re sending spaceX suits up with crew dragon. They’d never allow anyone to re-enter without a suit.

How can I get a screw like this out? (sh.itjust.works)

I decided on cleaning my laptop fans today, which I’ve been procrastinating for about a year now because of this one screw. But I just can’t seem to open this with my screwdriver, since whatever I did back when I last opened it it’s nearly circular now. Is there a way to unscrew this?

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

That usually works, however you need too much force to press the torx bit into the hole to do that on sensitive electronics. That screw is probably only threaded into plastic.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Oh yeah it’s totally bootlicker culture to not lose your job which pays for the roof over your head and your food. /s

Like seriously? Where the fuck is that a choice??

i'm 40 years old and just had ALL my teeth extracted in one go. The pain is excruciating. Any tips for pain relief?

EDIT; I can’t reply to everyone individually but thanks for all the suggestions! Opiates are out of the question, doctors here will only prescribe those in terms of absolutely extreme suffering or end of life care. I also don’t particularly feel interested in developing a hard drug habit. Diclofenac and such are available...

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Not really AFAIK they still get up to 50-60, it’s just the ungodly amount of child deaths that pull down the average to like 30

Fantastic writeup!

A teeny tiny correction, taking a bath will in fact dehydrate you (only a small bit, unless you have a Swimmingpool and move, then it’ll dehydrate you much more)

You definitely pay a premium for repairability and ethics, but IMO it’s worth it. ¯\(ツ)/¯

Fairphone can run GOS just fine btw. eOS is just also “approved” by fairphone themselves

EDIT: no they don’t, I was wrong

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

The fp5 has a SD-Slot btw.

But yeah, I’m also hoping for more repairability in phones, however if you want to buy a new one in the next 2 years I seriously doubt that major manufacturers will have DIY repairable phones by then.

Vivaldi just has better features than Firefox. I’ll switch to Firefox when Vivaldi is forced to switch to V3 but until then I’m gonna continue to enjoy Vivaldi

Tab stacks and mouse gestures are the 2 that I use the most, that don’t exist in Firefox. Tab hibernation is also extremely useful, but I don’t know if that exists in Firefox.

And in general there are so many useful tools, like bookmarking by stack and/or window etc.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Fuck yes!!

Did the exact same thing as you, watched the show first, absolutely love(d) it, and was sceptical about the books, however the books are even better than the show.

They’re a lesbian couple from China where LGBTQ people aren’t exactly accepted or welcomed by society.

EDIT: Done some research and I couldn’t find them confirming being romantically involved, however there’s a different image where Chang (the one being carried) makes a heart shape with her arm, so who knows really ¯\(ツ)/¯

I don’t think microSD has the write speed for that, might be more useful for HD surveillance cameras

In Germany your employer has to pay for all sick leave up to continuous 6 weeks. After that insurance pays you 60% of your last paycheck. There are a lot of exceptions, for example if it’s a work related accident your employer has to pay 100% of your last paycheck indefinitely until you go into early/disability retirement.

Interesting idea, however Imane Khelif was born a woman and is still a woman.

Chromosomes are not a definitive indicator for sex.

Dutch beach volleyball player convicted of rape is booed again, louder, in second match of Olympics (apnews.com)

Dutch beach volleyball player Steven van de Velde, who served time in prison after he was convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl, won his second match at the Paris Olympics and received an even harsher reaction from the crowd on Wednesday than for his first match.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

In Germany you can have sex with 14, everything below that is illegal (however the courts can decide not to prosecute if the involved persons both consented, are both under the age of 14, and very close in mental development). Between 14 and 16 you can have sex with people your age ±2 years (14 with 16 or 16 with 18, but not 14 with 17). At 16 to 18 it’s I believe ±3 years, so that with 17 you can have sex with persons up to 20 years old, even though you’re a minor and they’re adults. There are exceptions to this, most notably that if they have any power over you (teachers, bosses, etc), it will count as statutory rape as it’s argued that the victim didn’t have the possibility to refuse without fear of consequences.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Fuck that. They have an international platform to say something against the ongoing genocide and are instead supporting it by participating under the Israeli flag.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. They are supporting genocide. And it’s not even “silence is compliance” but they’re literally ‘advertising’ their country during a genocide. And yes I know that the Olympics is an extremely big and important thing for athletes, but that’s exactly why you have the option to compete without representing a nation.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

I haven’t looked at the dox, but if they have apartments/properties outside of Israel, it’ll lead to some good ol’ vandalism. With addresses inside Israel it’s most likely gonna be harassment in the form of letters and packages. Same goes for phone numbers and email addresses.

Essentially, make their lives as uncomfortable as possible. And because they know they’ve been doxed, it’s unlikely to lead to physical violence, because I doubt they’re stupid enough to stay at (now publicly known) addresses outside of Israel.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not though? They’re Israelis that have the platform to speak out against the genocide and are not doing so, but instead are ‘advertising’ for their country.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Huh, so you’re a supporter of forcing people out of their homes when they’ve committed no crime other than have the misfortune of being born in the wrong country? Where have I seen this one before…

Reading comprehension just isn’t your thing is it?

I literally said it’s about them advertising their country and not speaking out despite having the platform. It has nothing to do with where they’re born.

Krzd ,
@Krzd@lemmy.world avatar

Probably not, however depending on how they phrase it I doubt there would be extreme consequences and even then, there have been countless examples of athletes refusing to return to their home countries and instead staying in the host countries.
