Reaper DAW, for (attempting) making music

Do you use the device you torrent on for personal things as well?

I’m just curious as I’ve permanently dedicated my laptop to torrenting. I’ve been too nervous to install anything but the VPN and Firefox on it. Now, I’m curious to mess around with Linux some more, which is what I use on it, but I can’t fully test out what all I can do with it without signing into accounts....

IzyaKatzmann ,

you recommend wyse? any negative experiences with it?

IzyaKatzmann ,

there is no practical benefit to adding fats to bullets right? can anyone comment?

IzyaKatzmann ,

Ah I didn’t know lard only came from pigs. I thought it was a general descriptor of like solid fats.

IzyaKatzmann ,

Yeah, thanks for clarifying.

for a prospective dev (for contributing & who is learning…) what should one look into if they wanted to add support for another markup language? like typst! or uhh pandoc so whatever markup language one writes in it can be put in the appropriate format!

IzyaKatzmann ,

I thought maybe an NGO or non-profit subsidized by a gov’t (e.g. taxing ISPs or telecos) would work for stuff within a geographic region, just like allocate server space and the main benefit would be to have a knowledgeable citizenry/residents of tech stuff.

IzyaKatzmann ,

I appreciate the candid response (though I’m not from your server).

Here’s hoping you don’t anything annoying come your way.

IzyaKatzmann ,

hey im a noob with music stuff, why would this be preferable to soulseek?

IzyaKatzmann OP ,

True, yeah I think I saw that mentioned somewhere, thanks for the heads up!

IzyaKatzmann OP ,

hmm, yeah dual boot sounds like a good idea, thanks for sharing your experience!

IzyaKatzmann OP ,

when I use a windows laptop, I don’t really take over my Mac habits (e.g. CMD-OPT-ESC, or using 4 finger pinch or 3 finger swipe up or down), however when using a MacBook even when remoting in to a windows computer I automatically use what I am used to on my MacBook.

do you find that you have some frustration with the user experience and interfacing with asahi linux on your MacBook? i.e. you use the gestures lets say that you would use and they don’t work, or rather, you could make it work but it’s too much trouble.

if it’s a painless kind of switch over, then I think I would be willing to learn or relearn or customize the desktop environment to my liking even if it took a bit of time. however if it’s bug-laden and ‘appears’ to be too much like macOS on the onset, it would probably be more trouble than it’s worth at the moment to use as a daily driver (dual booting in this case would make it even more confusing to demarcate for me).

so yeah that’s a lot to ask you for what your thoughts & experiences were…

IzyaKatzmann OP ,

hmm… HMM, could i ask do you prefer USB-C because of power delivery?

IzyaKatzmann OP ,

that’s fair, i’ll definitely have to see what the changes to my workflow are

IzyaKatzmann OP ,

ah fair enough, thanks for the response!

IzyaKatzmann ,

wait i have something relevant to say too…

All happy families are alike, all unhappy families are unhappy in their own way. — Anna Karenina

IzyaKatzmann ,

maybe bring back totalitarian and use it against countries like the US? have a word that, like Huey P. Newton said regarding coining the term ‘pig’ for police, “highlights the contradiction”, in this case, between the selective usage of a word and it’s inherent meaning, none of which is understandable without contradictions from a prescriptive linguistic context

IzyaKatzmann ,

no I think it’s, um actually, only when parents tell their kids in china / s <— to indicate it’s sarcasm

IzyaKatzmann ,

People who can don't get mad and just go with the flow, how do you do it?

Here recently it seems like everything just gets under my skin so quickly and easily. It’s not that I get mad and take it out on others, it’s just the fact that I’m constantly annoyed and stressed. Something as simple as the dogs tracking some mud through the house will just ruin my mood. I know some people who would just...

IzyaKatzmann ,

ah crud, don’t do this to me! wilson!!

IzyaKatzmann ,

what do you mean refuse by principle to fix it? the solution that comes to mind is for a whitelist that is implemented either in federation broadly or lemmy specifically for certain categories (think TLDs) which are agreed to have a certain focus, like on literature or video games or music, where the instances themselves can join or link to.

kinda bypass a community being held hostage (or kept isolated) by an instance, the whitelists can be determined through a simple majority (first past the post) or any other method by members of communities rather than instance moderators/admins.

i get that many folks don’t like hexbear and i have nothing against them, i certainly don’t want to force them to see content they don’t want; giving granular control over specific content (not just a blacklist like per-user instance blocking) seems ideal.

what do you think?

IzyaKatzmann ,

i have 2, syncing accounts some way between instances (maybe subscribe lists) would be nice.

IzyaKatzmann ,

I believe I have the same experience you have, I think others have a different experience and it makes me curious as to why, I think there might be something interesting there and ignoring it or treating it minimally doesn’t seem to be ideal. If there’s a different kind of lemmy experience or set of interactions, I want to know, what is it?

IzyaKatzmann ,

Interesting, I think I’ll take a look. You sorta skipper over what ‘normie’ or reddit behaviour was mentioned in his book specifically. Was it the lack of reading scientific articles you mentioned in another paragraph, that alone can’t be it right?

IzyaKatzmann ,

Sometimes I think of things in the shower and after I’m done I can’t find the post I wanted to post in :/

IzyaKatzmann ,

Oh yeah? I can be hostile to our views even in hexbear. Watch me start a struggle session on checks notes outdoor vegan cats!1!!

IzyaKatzmann ,

Yeah, that’s fair enough, gotta do my own homework some of the time.

IzyaKatzmann ,

In Econ there’s opportunity cost, I think that’s what companies end up losing, the greater profit they could have made (if they were like a bit less short term oriented).

IzyaKatzmann ,

Yeah fair enough. They’re too busy sowing the seeds of their own destruction and can’t see the forest for the trees.

I had no clue there were several republics kinda like France (I think?), I searched Wikipedia and it said that they are on their 6th republic, not 5th. Maybe you are off by one? Either way it’s a poor mark on the country and its governance.

IzyaKatzmann ,

I wonder if someone could make a series of movie trailers for each republic with the executive producer being the US and having all sorts of poor takes.

Executive Producer: “No, no, we need LESS military oversight for the next one, SPEND MORE on practical explosions, the audience will love it!”
Director: “But sir, we already had half an hour of explosions, the most common criticism was about the confusing plot which was always interrupted by explosion sequences.”
Executive Producer: “We need those to keep the audience on their toes! We can’t plan explosion scenes we need to let the invisible hand of the free market decide and let us know!!”

A clever tea maker / mug all-in-one. I imported it from China, it’s not expensive or anything, it does use Tritan for this steeping chamber thing where it only decants at like a 45° angle. I have some food containers I use for lunch which use the same plastic and they work well, don’t get stained. Hope it doesn’t have some new kind of cancer or medical issue associated with it, I’ll update this post in ~15 years if that’s the case.

IzyaKatzmann ,

I have a dog-shaped teddy bear which I almost need to support my arms. It has such a novel shape as a pillow, there are so many uses compared to a rectangular/square cube or tube.

IzyaKatzmann ,

Dispenser? You put like toothpaste from a tube and it’s like those soap dispensers you push to get soap?

IzyaKatzmann ,

I liked the first Avatar blue people movie in 3D when I watched it.

IzyaKatzmann ,

I use FreeCad as an alternative to Solidworks. It has its own way of doing things… but it’s more or less feature complete with respect to designing stuff.

IzyaKatzmann ,

I think the poster was being sarcastic, in agreement with you.

IzyaKatzmann ,

I don’t understand the comparison to Cuba, do you mind explaining?

Is someone really tired of the therapy speak on reddit?

I havent been on Reddit in a while. I reduced drastically the amount of Reddit related content I watch, and gotta say, they helped me a lot a while back to recognize unacceptable behavior, and showing it to my bf was important in his development to recognize how abusive his mom was and taking steps to go leave her and go NC....

IzyaKatzmann ,

Are you referring to ‘trauma-dumping’ or when people share their negative experiences en masse? When I think therapy speak I think people being supportive, I’m probably misunderstanding, an example would help!

IzyaKatzmann ,

Ah ok yeah that gets pretty annoying. When people diagnose others I think that’s problematic too. You only know a sliver of what they thought suitable to share, which isn’t necessarily indicative of anything…

I see a Clinical Psychologist, PhD and 2 PostDoc’s. We call our sessions therapy, wouldn’t that be an ok way to refer to something as therapy?

IzyaKatzmann ,

Would bioinformatics stuff be appropriate for that community?
