Not related to selfhosted but OK.

Don’t know about such software for Windows, but if you run Windows on a virtual machine on Linux, like virt-manager/libvirt you can add the USB as a local SSD.
Virt-manager isn’t the most user friendly, but have a lot of features

I only use PiHole for a couple of months, it wasn’t easy to setup something that worked on my LAN and over internet. Initially I used OpenVPN but was hard to use it with profiles to identify the devices.

Than a tried AdGuard Home, and use it with DoH/DoT server was very simple, and can easily use any profile for each device on LAN or DoH/DoT server.
Can easily search logs and block/allow for each device.

Give it a try, and use it for a couple days.

No they not, in EU people where using VPNs (probably free, with more tracking) to use Threads.

When USA tried to block TikTok, people started to use free VPNs to continue using TikTok.

Mostly are unaware or don’t understand, other just don’t care they “have nothing to hide”

Ah yes the Samsung and their bloatware.
On S23 is almost 60GB neowin.net/…/heres-the-apparent-truth-behind-the-…

That’s why when a look for a phone, always research if there’s custom ROMs for it, AOSP based.

I control what’s on the phone, not otherwise

The app is still using the dev API token, the dev didn’t revoke the token and created a new one for the API changes.
If it’s abandoned the app will continue to work.

You can see NSFW posts on non-NSFW subreddits, but not NSFW subreddits.

You can with Stealth gitlab.com/cosmosapps/stealth

So they work with user keys but not with developer keys!
If you try RedReader, which is official supported by Reddit for accessibility you can’t see NSFW subs

Will I be eventually able to access Threads and Bluesky from my Lemmy account? (lemm.ee)

From what I understand, Threads will be joining the fediverse, and Bluesky is going to be federated. Will I eventually be able to access both from my Lemmy instance? I’m also still trying to wrap my head around the whole concept so I’m not even sure if I’m asking my question correctly

Hope not, instances should block Threads instead.
Meta/Facebook could use that to harvest more data, and Meta isn’t known for privacy.

And Thread trolls spamming the fediverse also not a good ideia.

It will be working till new update, then the developer should revoke if current API key and create a new for the new version.
Aver that it should stop work

Not only that but for each video on YouTube there are different versions for each resolution. So if you upload a 1080p video, it gets converted to 1080p AVC/VP9, 720p AVC/VP9, 480p… also for the audio.

If you run youtube-dl -F <youtube url> you will see different formats.

Generator ,

If it converts every video in realtime it will require a lot of CPU per server, it’s cheaper to store multiple copies. Also the average video isn’t more than some 300MB, less if it’s lower quality.

Anyone with Plex or Jellyfin knows that it’s better to have the same movie in both qualities (1080,720) the transconding to avoid CPU usage.

It’s possible to have fast transconding with GPUs, but with high so many users on youtube that will require a lots of power and high energy prices, store is cheaper.

Is Lemmy searchable from search engines such as Google?

Part of the utility of Reddit to me was the ability to append “Reddit” to searches and be served relevant threads to my search query since Reddit was one of the last places to get information from real people. This has proven to be invaluable in troubleshooting. Is this possible with Lemmy or the greater Fediverse? As we...

Don’t know about Google (don’t use it) but already found some search results on Brave or Duckduckgo, without search operators (site:…)

And having multiple instances with specific theme (country, TV show, games) also engages people to post and comment more.

It’s like talking to people on your neighborhood while Reddit is nation wide and everything is seeking attention

Hosting videos requires a lot of storage, before reddit hosting images/videos most used services where imgur, streamable, gifycat…

On small instances hosting videos could be an issue with storage and bandwidth, hosting externally is always a best option

Just one thing, must be indefinitely not 48h, otherwise nothing will change. A year have 365 days, 48h it’s a weekend, if subreddits come back after 48h it’s nothing happened.

Maybe because he’s not “American” and comes from a country with regulations like the rest of the world, and people care when they vote to make things work.

And like most of the rest of the world, there are more than two political parties, and is not a drama show.

Generator ,
@Generator@lemmy.pt avatar

I know, im from Europe.
The drama is not compared to USA, we don’t vote on celebrities.

In my country we even have a party for the animals and climate, so when USA still trying to vote for basic rights, we already ahead and vote for animal rights and more climate change.
