I do, and I’m tired of everyone pretending we haven’t wanted this to happen forever either. Twitter and Facebook gave the rise to celebrity worship that plagues us. Being able to follow their every waking moment like you’re a part of their circle or something has been a pox.

More importantly, a massive company never dies a “peaceful” way. There’s no “glorious death” for a corporation or entity. It’s always a train wreck of bad decisions and failed attempts to save the ship going under. They do not simply run out of money and go quietly into the night when they are a high profile brand. The nicest death a company this size can hope for is being quietly folded like taffy over and over, into other companies like AOL was.

IAMA Shitposter Ask me anything

For credibility: I hold a major in Shitpostology, certified by a guy at the local bridge. Hes won 300 running weekly hobo knife fights. I have saved over 4000 memes to my phone, most of which are outdated and unfunny. I spend 4 hours a day on discord and Lemmy, whom I love. I come to you as not-sus as can be, and am definetly...

An era repressed (lemmy.world)

Whether you loved or hated the movement, it was a meme machine. As a meme collector I don’t discriminate. Let the emotions of an era gone by wash over you and remember simpler times. When you had time to argue over pastel ponies - and now your knees and back ache and it all seems like such a childish thing to have fought over....

I do it in our (largish) discord server because, quite frankly, the trash won’t take itself out, and I like the community we have cultivated. Everyone wants a well moderated community, where people use the right channels for what theyre named, and don’t come into other channels and start spamming Nwords and other slurs. Everyone wants an unbiased moderation staff that follows a set of their own rules so people don’t get banned unfairly. And in my eyes that’s what we do. (I wont speak for other places on discord, just us) I like to be part of the group keeping chat clean for others to find people to play with. I enjoy talking to users and the conversations happening, so why not give a little time back to keep it that way?

I’m not sure I follow. The day before, it was over $40. It was dropped for prime day (I assume that’s the end of the graph - 39.59) and then 20% taken off as a discount. The $31 sale price is lower than both used and new. What am I missing here.

Not gonna address the article but are Asimovs Three Laws as solid in practice as they are on paper? I mean to a layman they sound good and rely on stacking to the first law of “don’t hurt humans” but from a mechanical standpoint are they really as foolproof as they’re made out to be?

They can always make an account that federates with Threads, or make a Threads acccount, or host their own Instance and be their own lord of the manor. You choose that here.

This complaint doesn’t work. “Noones treading on you, sweetie.”

Exusia ,
@Exusia@lemmy.world avatar

They could stay on Lemmy.ml but you said yourself that you’re “tired of people making choices for you”. Im not sure how you thought using someone else’s server works. They own it, they can do what they want. Isn’t that how right leaning Americans want it? The thing about Federation is that even John Q Citizen can spin up their own Instance. Noone is forcing you to use someone else’s Instance and be bound by that Instances rules. Own your Instance server you can make the rules.

Also, your you of “You people” is disingenuous because what makes you think this is my only account, on the only server. There’s nothing saying I can’t have accounts on every public server. Because, as mentioned, I am free to not agree with an admins choices and noone is forcing me to stay on one Instance.

And your last - part you can! Own your own Server Instance and you can Defederate all you want! You cN even launch your own Communities identical to the others to not miss out on content you do want to see.

If an Instance Owner holds a vote and 98% of people say they want to Fedi with Threads, and the owner Defederates anyway, they can do that because they own it. It will make those 98% unhappy, but that’s the price of being on that owners Instance. The owner has execute authority.

So the alternatives are - in order of difficulty and effort/cost 1.Make a Threads account 2.join a Fedi that is still federated with them 3.Make your own.

If the 98% were actually that unhappy and did literally anything other than staying and creating content on that Instance, then it reduces traffic to that Instance. And the owner is left with a ton of sunken cost in hardware for not listening to a 98% vote. That’s how capitalism is supposed to work, right?

You argued for 2 hours just to finally admit you don’t want solutions, you just want to keep being a victim.

And pre-emptively, I’m going to predict you’re going to make some kind of snarky reply about blocking me, like you did the other users. Because you just need the attention announcing it brings.

Fuckin lol called it. User doesn’t react to my edits and didn’t notice my call out their newd for an edit. Pretty sure I just spent 3 hours talking to a fuckin bot.

Answer: I am biased from reading through Turtles Ban thread, so I may not have the full picture. But for the most part BEFORE the major api protests they didn’t moderate. They more or less set themselves as Managers and managed the moderation teams. They built org charts (with themselves near the tops) to ensure a chain of command where if someone wasn’t being an active enough moderator, or disagreed with other moderation staff, they would remove and replace them. I imagine AFTER the api protests, some moderators were removed due to standing in Reddits way. Some, like turtle, could not stand to lose an ounce of Influence and began to seek ways to not lose their power - either by applying for moderator in places Reddit removed staff, and/or complying with Reddits general demands to break the protest.

Im under the impression they don’t. They install them selves as “Managers” for the mod teams.

@Exusia@lemmy.world avatar

Probably not, mabe? I don’t know how reddits moderator system works. But it does open them up to favoritism, giving friends of moderators on X special treatment inxchange to another large scale modertator

How cN I get a copy to see ally data? While it certainly is creepy, I want to just see everything I have forgotten. So many things I’ve looked up and can’t remember when I went to find it again I couldn’t remember but I couldn’t just ask my computer. I consigned myself to knowing they were probably doing this when I bought a Pixel 2 so long ago.

But hey the last article I read was a bunch of totally-relatable-super-wealthy-individuals who are just like me, asking why people aren’t having kids! Are you telling me the world is actually a hellscape and I’ve been lied to?

Someone hired jets to do a flyover and do a sonic boom at their wedding and broke the rental glass. I guarantee it.
