@mods I went with “spam or abuse”, is that the appropriate label?

CrayonMaster ,

What are you searching for? I can’t remember the last time I googled something and most the results were malicious.

Also, I don’t think it’ll be easier to spot bullshit coming from an LLM then a website.

CrayonMaster ,

Not necessarily a bad idea, but most the spam I’ve seen is from new accounts on larger instances, so I’m not sure it’ll help with this.

CrayonMaster ,

But that really says more about the user then the tech. This issue here isn’t that the tech has too many errors, it’s that stores use it and it alone to ban people despite it having a low but well known error rate.

CrayonMaster OP ,

Haha same. I didn’t believe it and found the article

Do we have a rule against just straight-up ads? If not, should we make one maybe?

maegul , (edited ) to fediverse
@maegul@hachyderm.io avatar

The fediverse won’t succeed at putting up a substitute and that’s a problem?

Just an impression: All the pieces seem to be there. But what’s required is a team, with devs, PMs and coordinators, dedicated to making a particular place in the .

That’s resources and decently sized financial and organisational demands, especially to get a critical mass of users.

Is the fediverse up to that challenge? If not, is it an issue worth addressing?

@fediverse

CrayonMaster ,

Any community recommendations?

CrayonMaster ,

If you like scifi, you might like Ursula K LeGuin, or the Robot and Monk books.

CrayonMaster ,

I mean if you’re trying to learn to be a competent handyman or build a bookcase maybe yeah, but I just need a screwdriver set for like 30 minutes to put something together.

CrayonMaster ,

He’ll be clocking a lot of overtime this month.

No, Gen z covers people as young as 11 or 12, which is a good guess for “kids on Instagram”

@fediverse Is this a title ?

So... Theoretically this should be visible from Lemmy. Hi Lemmy users ! Greeting from Mastodon !
(Im never leaving the fediverse if this works)

CrayonMaster , (edited )

Hello from Lemmy! Can you see this or do I need to @ you?

And we see the post, but I don’t think it has a title.

Eta: @uhrbaan?

Edit2: it’s a title now!

CrayonMaster ,

OK setting aside the Q thing, am I the only one who had a weird number of those growing up?

CrayonMaster ,

But people who don’t return carts are just as bad as landlords???

CrayonMaster ,

Where did those numbers come from? MAU/users ismore like 25%?

CrayonMaster ,

OK, but what arithmetic?

CrayonMaster ,

Oh you’re right, I read that as 490,000, sorry. Thanks

CrayonMaster ,

That’s the part that gets me. If it were just not removing content, well, I’d probably still complain but they’d have a coherent freedom of speech argument. But… they have to pay Nazis to make Nazi content and take a cut, otherwise it’s censorship and that somehow helps the Nazis?

CrayonMaster ,

I think these are great rules, so long as they never have any teeth.

CrayonMaster , (edited )

That’s really the entire article. “Yeah, for now its run by hippies who care about privacy and run servers out of a sense of civic duty, but we can fix that”

A take on an "ideal" fediverse (kbin.social)

For-profit tech companies like #Threads and #Flipboard are beginning to implement #ActivityPub, and that's been causing a lot of chaos lately. Thus, I've found it helpful to take a step back, consider what it is about the fediverse that I value, and think about whether federation with these large platforms will bring us closer...

CrayonMaster ,

I mean, they’re doable, but they’re cultural goals, not technical ones.

I’d argue that really all of these are on a spectrum between the two though.

CrayonMaster ,

Well, you’re commenting on a Mastodon post…

Suspects can refuse to provide phone passcodes to police, court rules (arstechnica.com)

The questions addressed in the ruling could eventually be taken up by the US Supreme Court, whether...

Agree with the first half, but unless I’m misunderstanding the type of AI being used, it really shouldn’t make a difference how logically soud they are? It cares more about vibes and rhetoric then logic, besides I guess using words consistently

CrayonMaster ,

After she was unconscious.

CrayonMaster ,

You know, I was starting to think they were milking the resolution for Tendi’s arc. Like, we found out 4 episodes ago, then they brought it up last episode, now it’s a plot point again; you can’t stretch out the climax that long.

But it turns out we’re still in the rising action, this was just a stepping stone. I love this show.

CrayonMaster ,

For me it was funny, but only because it kept subverting my expectations. Everytime they gave the “2 hours later” board, I expected it to me chaos, but it was just sweet. And they got me every time.

CrayonMaster , (edited )

That was good and wholesome… they’re going to hurt us in the next episode aren’t they?

ETA: also, no ships were stolen this time. Thoughts?

CrayonMaster ,

I think the magic tree house books came with nonfiction pairs. “Jack’s notebooks” or something like that. I was crazy for them.

But for me fiction and nonfiction were both mostly at the library, so I wouldn’t say the nonfiction books were around more.

CrayonMaster ,

…but it wasn’t constructive?

CrayonMaster ,

It may or may not be valid criticism, but it’s certainly not constructive. How is OP supposed to change based off your comment? Do you really think they learned something from it?

CrayonMaster ,

TOS is fun to watch in an ironic, cult classic, campy, laughing-at-it-not-with-it way. TNG was the first actually good star trek.

CrayonMaster ,

I’m sorry, I must have missed something. Is it not cancelled anymore?

CrayonMaster ,

oh, got it. Thanks!

CrayonMaster ,

I mean yeah, but it happens even more with the naming scheme in the original post. Most companies just add a number when that happens. Predictable naming schemes, at least as the default, make it a lot easier to find people in large companies.

CrayonMaster ,

Sorry, I meant professional company emails. Obviously people can make up whatever private gmail account they want. And people can state their preferred name, but the fact that if I call my coworker “Josh” and their last name is “Jacobson”, the fact that I can type in Josh.Jacobson and find them is extremely helpful, and I don’t get why companies would complicate that by making it “jojacko” .

CrayonMaster ,

For anyone else who’s curious, it’s a google-able question, and closer to 80%
