Well if you’re not aroused before and are aroused after, and your goal was to masturbate, that’s hardly neutral.

@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Irish are so much better than American. Word.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah that’s quite alright. Windows 7 in particualr is so long out of virtually all forms of support, running it is just playing russian roulette with other devices on your network because of known and (due to the now expired support, extended support, and critical security support) unpatched vulnerabilities.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Eh, neither of your screenshot shows what you are talking about, tbh.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

So what is the result of 5👍2?

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

There is none, I don’t think the screenshots are of the new design OP talks about. I also checked in my app, and I have either a +/- (well I have a + in a circle that adds songs to playlists) nor a 👍 or 👎 or anything.

I think that’s in fact supposed to be the joke, anyways. That Spotify does not have a like/dislike button.

The rate at which I steal from work is directly proportional to my pay rate.

So the more you get paid, the more you steal? (sorry, had to 😛 it’s quite obvious what you mean of course)

long after those letters became toxic

What’s toxic about an egyptian goddess? 😜 (to be fair, the terrorist group is called IS, and calling it ISIS was always a bit weird)

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

As did Isreal!

(edit)
Jokes aside, it also took me forever, and I went through the exact same list of who might be offended. Who reads “Ham-mas” on a christmas bag and even when saying it out loud associates it with Hamas? I mean it’s not like anybody still associates Christmas with Christ, so who cares what the first part is. Give me Crisp-mas with lots of crackers!

Hold on. Humor? Or memes? Which of he two is it?

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Well yeah but you always know with hardware generations that there’s an updated generation down the line, so that’s hardly unexpected, is it?

Could still sell yours and buy this one.

Upcoming Grounded major patch ("Make It Or Break It") brings level customization and custom playgrounds (news.xbox.com)

We’re well-versed in these critters and the landscapes they inhabit, which begs the question – what if we could design and build our own critter habitat, create new ways to fight them off, or even build new game experiences entirely?...

Carighan ,

Does it? Adblockers block these, too. So the people who pay for Youtube Premium are the ones affected, not the ones not paying for it.

But yeah it’s a good fighting game as it is. Just wish they’d leave it alone instead of trying to squeeze money from it until well past when it’s a dry piece of rock.

Aye, rankings are based on who has the costliest skin equipped, of course!

Because shareholders and valuations. If you don’t expand expand grow expand grow grow, people immediately see this as the company collapsing this very moment. It’s impossible to just “exist”. Be stable. Be reliable. Nope, massive growth every year no matter the cost or you’re obviously doomed.

Aw, such a lovely lady.

I just 3 months ago lost one of my two, Chili, and it’s been rough. Hope you’re doing okay. 😢 Always like losing a family member.

OK Microsoft... trying to log into Teams while work lapop updates to Windows 11. No longer works in any iPhone browser, including Edge. The app will not authenticate my work login. (lemmy.world)

Update…Per Microsoft’s instructions, disabled all tracking protections in Safari and requested desktop mode and it works. Their instructions say turn protections back on after using teams… 😐...

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Good guy MS, protecting you from webkit? 🤔

AFAIK it has something to do with the weird rerouting they do during the login process. I had issues using containers in Firefox for a while, too. Though nowadays it works, both on mobile and on desktop.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah this is disheartening. Depending on where you live this comes out to ~€600 per year of up-to-date phone. For many that’ll be acceptable, but it’s ridiculous to think about, considering my Fairphone 4, if I use it just to the end of full support coverage, will cost me ~€100 a year. And that is already high IMO.

Carighan ,

until performance fixed to our standards

So… right away, then? 😉

StarCraft could return, according to Blizzard president, but not necessarily as an RTS (www.pcgamer.com)

While Blizzard is very much focussed on its big money-makers like its various Warcraft games, from WoW to Hearthstone to Warcraft Rumble, as well as Diablo and the much-maligned Overwatch 2, he’s still open to StarCraft making a comeback. That said, RTS fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. While the series might return, that...

Carighan OP ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

And I mean, while I can’t see a Starfield-clone work in the Starcraft universe, I could see an adjacent spin-off game work really well like being a cargo-pilot having to drop stuff off on planets during active battles with fire all around you, or an exploration game where you explore galaxies and have to avoid being detected/caught by the zerg and/or protoss.

But I can’t see the modern Actiblizzking pull that off, even with MS throwing endless money at them.

I use it a lot, usually via Inoreader.

My current subscriptions are numerous, but include various IT and gaming news (heise.de or Rock Paper Shotgun and a host of others), programming blogs such as The Old New Thing or webcomics such as Questionable Content and xkcd.

Not at all, in fact so far they’ve changed nothing even in the new beta. Keep an eye on it, but while they bought the launcher, they’re not doing anything with it except fund development a bit and get some of the purchase money it seems.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, although so far nothing has happened. It’s one of those cases where we all thought it would immediately go to shit like QuickPic did, but oddly… that’s not happening. Feels weird. This isn’t how good software being bought up usually plays out!

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

That’s one interesting thing about this: They trained the players so hard to associate their store with the free weekly giveaways and only the free weekly giveaways, that’s all everyone uses the client for now, and never mentally considers it to be usable for anything else.

The effect is pervasive, too. Games factually have not released if they’re epic-exclusive. They’re not discoverable on PC, as nobody would ever imagine checking the Epic catalogue for a game they’re looking for. That’s not what you open Epic for, it’s those 1-2 free weekly games and nothing else.

In their bid to vie for developers not consumers they went so far too far that they have managed to alienate the concept of “selling games to players” in the consumers’ minds, therefor making their store automatically unable to compete at its main intent.

Mind you, there are far more problems with it. Among which is that despite having so little in there, discoverability and navigation are downright terrible! It’s an interesting lesson for frontend/UI design I imagine.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Hold on, a platform-agnostic solution to mod integration (mod.io being one example) is now a bad thing compared to the platform-exclusive one (Steam) we usually get? Isn’t it inherently better if I can get games wherever I want and still get mods instead of them being of course all locked to Steam after Steam Mod Downloader got disabled?

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Plus it’s not like there wasn’t room for a good shopping client, if you go smart about it.

Steam had at the time - and still has - tons of bad UI design, stemming for its very old layouts wrangling with newer client additions and changes. Plus Steam for the longest time until the new client solved it had serious issues with late boots and hanging closures. GOG had just tried to bring out their own client a few years before, but in the move to GOG Galaxy had gotten a lot of ire and fucked a lot of things up. All the per-developer clients were berated constantly.
There was room there. But Epic, hell, this is so not it. Your client is so much worse than even the bad competitors…

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah let’s not forget this is the client that went through your Steam-installed files on your drive to see what it could offer you.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Okay, fair, there are some exclusives. But reading through these, wow, nothing of value is lost.

Most importantly because for the newest ones like AW2, they’re just on a 1 year Early Access release in a lot of ways. Every time someone I know bought a game there, I was grateful they did the paid (as in, they pay, not get paid) bug testing work for the poor devs. And then once it releases on other stores, you can buy a somewhat patched-up version, and usually for 25%-50% off.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Well yeah, but from using the one of my step mom for a bit, the subpar experience was in the hardware, too (Galaxy Flip 4,IIRC).

The screen has that reel like it’s just the right amount of greasy at all times so you’ll want to wipe it. It’s in the nature of the devices, I get that. But it’s a very weird, almost sticky, feeling. Feels like the very very cheap screens of years and years ago.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Wow, that’s a blast from the past! Last release from April 2021, that’s far more recent than I would have guessed!

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll be honest, I only made it halfway into the first paragraph. Such as they are, the thin paragraphs coupled with multiple-screens-no-formatting length makes it impossible to follow the text, plus at least from the first paragraph it reads like generated AI nonsense.

Is that the point, though? As in, is this my wooooosh-moment? Is this supposed to say that the Fediverse is too difficult to consume and makes no sense at first?

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Damn, I’m sorry for coming off so negative tbh.

I will try to read more later after work, but some thing I can quickly point out as far as constructive feedback goes, about the formatting/display:

I know this isn’t how you intended to upload it, but the issue in readability I think comes from a combination of:

  • Font size (it’s too big for the narrow text column).
  • Column width (it’s too narrow for the length of each paragraph).
  • Paragraph length (it’s too long for the font size).

You want to ideally get two of those three under control, the third you would leave as desired for effect. For example if you compare most prose when shown on a Tolino or Kindle at default settings, they definitely keep long paragraphs in there, but the font size is smaller and the column wide compared to the height (given how tall these text paragraphs end up given the font size). So once the text size goes down slightly and the column gets wider, the paragraphs naturally no longer “feel” as long as they’d be 60%-80% of a screen, not 150%-200%.

And sorry for not explaining this any better, I have a friend who talks a lot about this but it’s difficult to translate it all into english in my mind while recalling it. 😅

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

I’d argue the opposite. Socio-economic effects take a long time to properly realize from low-key but widespread changes. It’s only starting to actually have a real effect, basically. And there’s so many secondary and tertiary ripple effects, like even more medical professionals trying to leave whenever they can, further depleting the health care system, etc.

Of course, it’s not necessary to specifically focus on people voting for Brexit to, we could expand this and say that the Tories were kept in power long enough to ensure they could completely fuck over the UK economy and society. Brexit is just one - albeit big - part of that.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Just wanted to make her sit down, duh. If all you have is a gun, every problem becomes a target.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Too half-arsed.

For one, grep isn’t translated. But more importantly, you have to use the english –use-locale-option to set it. Pah!

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve never seen that.

But what I think it happening is that you have your lockscreen background image set to “Windows Spotlight”? The web-based one? That’s usually the nature image in the background of MSN search, too? Because yeah, sometimes MS swaps that out for a full-screen image about a new game release, and that in turn would then also show this on the lock screen.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Depends. All it needs is some big distro to ad remote-loaded-image automatic backgrounds to the lock screen, and there you are. Whenever that image swaps to an ad, you’d have it on your lock screen, too.

Don’t misunderstand the ability for advanced users to disable or swap something (because this is trivially disabled on Windows, too) for an inability of companies or even groups of non-commercial volunteers to make shitty user-unfriendly decisions.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

One thing I can recommend if you don’t mind the cost is to get a bone-conducting headset for that purpose. Shockz - though I bet there are much cheaper options - have ones that are completely waterproof and can be used while swimming, and they even have a non-bluetooth integrated-storage mp3 player one that’d be ideal if you can’t leave your phone near the pool for the BT options.

Carighan ,
@Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah the last one is absurd, but the isolation raincoat and the cargo/camo gear looks okay, tbh. In fact the former looks quite good.
