You sometimes see some very minor variations, such as a mild taper on the thick part or a slightly different angle on the neck. But they all look basically like below. Pictured is a beer from the oldest brewing company in the US; established 1829.

Linux Mint is real nice from the ‘it just works’ perspective. Common things like you mention are preinstalled and the default (cinnamon) UI feels very familiar coming from Windows.

The US legalized gay marriage nationwide in 2015; Mexico didn’t achieve the same until 2022.

Yeah, there is a reason everyone talks about the Steam Deck, it’s an actually good device that Valve put a bunch of effort into making soild. There is also the problem that many of these other handhelds, like this ASUS one, are running an OS full of background processes constantly sapping your battery. Again, Valve put a bunch of effort into making the Steam Deck good and it shows.

Yeah, my guess is ‘near’ is being kept intentionally vague by the administration so that it can mean whatever it needs to mean. And, like you said, ‘near’ very well could mean air bases 300km from the front from which aircraft attack said front.

Quite happy we continue to destroy the Houthis and the Houthi’s ability to attack global shipping.

Though, I find it quite funny the latest Houthi victim was a boat transporting food to their benefactor.

The factory will soon turn out about 30,000 steel shells every month for the 155-millimeter howitzers

Love it. Ukraine needs the artillery shells, and that is one place the US and Europe are vastly short on production.

Kinda. They do have fun stuff like a cruiser that has a flat deck and carries aircraft, not an aircraft carrier (!!!), a cruiser. And they have been rearming the last two years as it becomes clear their neighbors might need a stick, or at least the threat of one.

A video game developer is so fucking far from this situation it is laughable; these suits are destined to fail. It’s sad the lawyers are sucking money from the victims’ families.

a zoning proposal for a gas fired peaker plant

They are adding a peaker plant, which provides power when other sources cannot. Solar fundamentally does not fulfill this role. Which is why it is incredibly common to pair solar capacity with peaker capacity.

States are incredibly more powerful in the US than their equivalent units in the vast majority of other countries. This gives incredible diversity in the government and legal systems that the vast majority of other singular countries just do not have.

It’s going to effect battery life having windows on these. It is one of the reasons the Steam Deck does not run Windows.

I still don’t think you should assume of cops they react this way

If one threatens others with death or serious bodily harm, they should expect lethal force as a response. You are not the victim when you are threatening the lives of innocents.

NATO was on the decline in the last decade. There were many articles asking if it was just a cold war holdover and many countries weren’t paying their fair share. Then Russia invaded Ukraine, starting the largest war in Europe since WWII, and suddenly new countries are joining NATO and members are increasingly paying their 2%.

A machine gun is defined by the NFA of 1934 using very specific terms. Bump stocks do not meet these terms. There is only one way this will shake out.

BombOmOm ,
@BombOmOm@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, that’s the issue with the argument of ‘just turn it off’. You can turn it off, then tomorrow there will be another thing to turn off (hope you were paying attention to the news to find out what it was!). The next day an update will come along and turn half of them back on. The following the mental script you made to will stop working because they moved half the settings, etc, etc, etc.

It’s a never ending battle as Microsoft fundamentally does not respect their paying users. Microsoft could add a top-level toggle box to automatically disable bloatware, telemetry, and the privacy nightmare that is OP’s story about how the OS records everything you do, but they don’t have this. They don’t want you turning this stuff off, they don’t respect you.

Yeah, it will accomplish ensuring poor people have a harder time exercising their rights. Apparently that is something California is very interested in.

BombOmOm ,

Yeah, that is a big deal for privacy reasons. There is no reason one needs to send such information to companies.

Woof. Credit card debt is about the worst type of debt, only to be surpassed by payday loans. If you are finding yourself building either of these types of debt, you need to immediately make necessary life changes as your current lifestyle is not sustainable.

Quite a few trade skills are worth learning the basics of yourself. Fixing a minor plumbing problem can easily be $500 for a simple job, or $30 in parts and an informative video to do it yourself. It has been one of the consequences of telling everyone for decades trade schools are inferior to college. We are short on tradesmen, thus they are very expensive to hire.

BombOmOm , (edited )
@BombOmOm@lemmy.world avatar

There is absolutely a skill component which one can improve with research (videos) and experience. For your exact situation, you many have considered buying a completely new toilet, which costs $100-$200.

And yes, sometimes you are going to fail. Use that experience to better yourself for next time. Watch what the professional you hired did, ask him questions, understand why you failed and become more knowledgeable/skilled in the process.

We don’t yet know if he actually did anything here or not, we will find out when the legal challenges are done. On one hand, it may survive, in which case something was actually accomplished, on the other hand, Biden may have wasted a whole bunch of people’s time and clogged up the courts even more than they already are.

How much does it matter what type of harddisk i buy for my server?

Hello, I’m relatively new to self-hosting and recently started using Unraid, which I find fantastic! I’m now considering upgrading my storage capacity by purchasing either an 8TB or 10TB hard drive. As you are looking for bulk data storage, the drive’s speed isn’t of too much concern. A 5400RPM drive is plenty.

If you are looking to put this drive into an array with other drives, make sure you get a CMR drive as SMR drives can drop out of arrays due to controllers finding them unresponsive. If a drive does not list it is CMR, it’s best to assume it isn’t. Seagate has a handy CMR chart, for example.

Additionally, if there are multiple spinning drives in the same enclosure, getting drives with vibration resistance is a good bonus. Most drives listed for NAS use will have this extra vibration resistance.

Unless China’s plan is for Russia to leave Ukraine, I have a strong feeling it isn’t going to work out.

In unrelated news, Russian occupied Belbek Airfield is on fire, with reported losses of Russian combat aircraft, an air-defense radar, and two S-400 anti-air missile launchers.

It isn’t just students. Interest rates in general were raised from their historic lows after the 2008 recession into the 2020 recession in order to fight inflation. Debt consolidation and refinances were hot hot hot in 2020/21.

This is also why it is easy to find a savings account with 5% interest today. Something that has been unheard of for nearly two decades.

China is becoming an increasingly unreliable trade partner. Preventing them from taking over more of America’s economy is prudent.

BombOmOm ,

German industry is/was in shambles as they allowed an unreliable trade partner, Russia, to completely take over a segment in the German economy (oil & gas). When that unreliable trade partner pulled the rug in 2022, suddenly Germany is paying out the ass for LNG, reducing factory output, even on-lining coal plants to keep the lights on.

It is simply a bad idea to allow an unreliable trade partner to take over a segment in your economy.

Study reveals "widespread, bipartisan aversion" to neighbors owning AR-15 rifles (www.psypost.org)

A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that across all political and social groups in the United States, there is a strong preference against living near AR-15 rifle owners and neighbors who store guns outside of locked safes. Here is my process for new cards: Pick a pricepoint, head over to Video Card Benchmark and scroll down until you find the first (ie fastest) video card that meets that price point. Also double check prices at PC Part Picker. For used cards, the chart is still pretty useful, just a bit more manual (and money saving!) to get used prices from eBay/Mercari.

I personally have an AMD bias though, since they have pulled way less shit than nVidia. But, that is your decision to make.

You are thinking of UserBenchmark, which is a stain on the PC gaming industry.
