I think you care food-pleasure just as much as most people. Otherwise why not eat something healthier, faster or cheaper. I like to think that i didn’t use to care much about taste before so for lunch i used to eat 1k kkcal in the form of a unflavoured, unsweetened meal replacement shake, took <5 min to prepare+eat+clean.

I’ve had the exact opposite experience. I have a literal pile of dead wired headsets (most were mid quality but two of them were >100$) but not a single one of the 4 wireless headsets ive had since then have died (the first one i bought have admittedly had its battery degraded to where it can only live for an hour or two, but its nearing on 10 years old now).

Not saying you can’t have the opposite experience, but from my point of view last noticably longer at a similar priceclass (and i run them pretty hard both physically and time wise, easily 6-10h/day, with workouts most day). I’ve been running my jabra elite 65t for over 5 years now as my only headset which is the longest i’ve ever had a single headset. Though admittedly i lost my case 1.5 years ago while biking but i managed to find a secondhand case.

According to my napkin math it would take longer than an hour if the tape was ~3.3*10^218 sec long (or three million trillion trillion… (18 trillions) …trillion years). Assuming you have only have two options to choose between but can pick which alternative in in 5 seconds (2^720) and you want to get down to a 1 minute intervall.

So i mean its not impossible to find a tape long enough though it seems unlikely that we would be so off in our estimates of the age of the universe.

I don’t care who’s serving the ads, I don’t want to watch ads period. I will pay for the content where possible though. I dont think youtube taking 45% considering the crazy infrastructure provided is that strange. Maybe 45% is still too much, but i don’t think 55% sounds like “shit”.

Anemia ,

That’s fair enough. Didn’t think of that angle which is a pretty relevant one considering how easy it seems to be to get demonetized.

My parents are great as well. Very supportive and loving.

Anemia ,

If you are against them on a moral basis then use another service, I imagine that has a more negative impact on them. If you just want no ads, pay for it.

I hate ads as much as the next guy and use a variety of blockers but i’ll pay for any service with a reasonable payment method.

Anemia ,

Specifically youtube-videos? None. For similar videos there are a bunch of services, at least to watch for entertainment purpose.

Anemia ,

Wouldn’t it be better then to instead watch those creators on a platform that treats the creators better?

Odysee is pretty alright, maybe nebula? I haven’t used either a significant amount so i couldn’t give out recommendations. I personally doubt they are as good as YT though.

Ottawa is on the same latitude as Venice so it’s not like canada is very northly (though i know canada has a much more varied temperature range). That aside i think there are many reasons, like the southern countries are not as wealthy as US and theres a culture of using other methods to survive the heat such as building colors, not paving every cm^2 of land etc. And if we look at more northen Eu countries like where I live (sweden) the highest ever measured temp is 38c (100.4f). So anyone here who needs an AC for the few days when the temp is above 25c is a card carrying bitch.

It really is an almost impossible situation. The far right will win this one regardless what the government does. If they do nothing we will probably see some form of terrorism sooner or later, if they clamp down on it they will prove the activists right in that the government will reduce freedom of speech just because some muslims cant behave.

Maybe theres some way to eke out a win but I cant see it.

Yeah afaik there are a couple of suitable places for more hydropower but no plans for more due to, like you said, local environmental reasons.

That said, sweden is basically already completely “decarbonized” (if anything can really be decarbonized), we only have a reserve oil powerplant that runs for maybe a couple of days each year (~9 days last year, though last year was especially bad). Sweden also generally has a pretty big net surplus (usually about 10-20% of production) of green power that is sold to the european grid.

As someone working in the industry I dislike it as well. Many of the features have some really good usecases but the problem is just that they’re enabled/available for every user even if most people only use a small subset of features so the settings/interface gets so cluttered.

In my opinion though, the move away from physical interfaces towards touchscreens is way worse than the clutter.

Anemia ,

It honestly was less bad than i expected. Not saying it’s perfect but it could have been a lot worse.

Anemia ,

It all really depends on your individual situation. It’s impossible to make blanket statements like that since all food types have their pros and cons, it’s more a matter of eating a varied mix of generally healthy things and not just eat only one type of food.

Anemia ,

Easiest way to reduce the environmental impact is to do more factory farming. Though I don’t really think that’s a good idea since it’s often kinda horrific.

Anemia ,

Could start by removing subsidies.

Now i haven’t been subscribed to spotify since at least 2015 so things may have changed but when i’m controlling someone elses phone with spotify i pretty much always prefer it to youtube music which has been my main player pretty much since it launched (i wont change for as long as i have yt premium though :p).

I couldnt agree more. The money has to come from somewhere and i’m not watching any ads so it’s the obvious solution. I frankly just use sponsorblock so it autoskips the sponsor spots. But the whole thing is just absurd tbh.

I dragged my feet for a long time before switching from chrome to firefox a year or two ago for that exact reason. When I actually did switch it was practically seamless, I haven’t run in to any website that has been problematic on firefox but not on chrome. The only thing i dislike is that i haven’t found a way to have a custom newtab-page but still be able to directly input text to the navbar, so i always have to do ctrl+t -> ctrl-a.

Anemia ,

I’ve configured it so that when i open a new tab it will by default open the url to my calendar. It does not select the url in the navigation bar, so if i want to input my own url i first need to select the calendar-url so that my inputs deletes the existing text. I do think that the custom url new-tab is an extension though so that doesn’t really help my case (not at the computer so can’t check).

Couldn’t it just be that they’re using something like bcrypt which won’t take any chars above its limit into account (knowing that there’s a limit will pretty much never matter to a user but why obscure the fact)? What does it even mean to store it reversibly, just because they have a char limit doesn’t mean they are encrypting the password, could just be some frontend shenannigans as well.
