I haven’t had any issues with browser compatibility since IE. Occasionally Safari might have some CSS issue, but it’s been probably 10 years since I had any major issues with browser compatibility. Html 5 and CSS 3 tend to work across all browsers without issue.

“Rather than artificial intelligence, we’re going for actual intelligence.” Does this guy think his customers are robots or that a standard PC with a barcode scanner is considered AI?

AlphaOmega ,

When I was in HS I worked at a grocery store. One time we had a senior citizen come in and ask me for some bags. He then proceeded to go through the store and bag his groceries and then tried to walk out without paying.

AlphaOmega ,

A few months back I had this issue on Chrome, but my ad blocker updated and it went away.

AlphaOmega ,

After the update it’s been working as intended.

X's CEO tells staff data will show efforts to fight hate, as advertisers flee (www.reuters.com)

X’s CEO tells staff data will show efforts to fight hate, as advertisers flee::Social media company X CEO Linda Yaccarino told employees that “data will tell the real story” about its efforts to battle antisemitism, according to a note to employees, amid growing outrage over the issue.

AlphaOmega ,

As a CEO, they should know that the data is pretty much available instantaneously. It’s all digital.

AlphaOmega ,

This has been a non issue for some time.

It takes less than 15 seconds for me to boot to desktop. If I put it in sleep mode I save about 5-10 seconds. Hardly worth it IMO.

Just need to add Spock singing “Bilbo Baggins” and this fever dream would be complete

This all could be solved with a simple toggle for premium users to choose if they want to see these ads or not.

Advertisement:

"a notice or announcement in a public medium promoting a product, service, or event or publicizing a job vacancy. "

I’m not sure if a link can be considered an announcement, but otherwise based on the definition I would say it’s a gray area and could be argued either way.

Although I would tend to say it isn’t an advertisement but a link to one.

GM saved like $2 on an ignition switch and killed 13 people. They knew about the issue for years. So yeah, GM doesn’t care if a few people have to die in order to turn a profit

“However, the building Almaghtheh crashed into is not, in fact, a Jewish school. The Anti-Defamation League says the Israelite School of Universal and Practical Knowledge is in fact an extremist organization that is anti-Israel and antisemitic.”

Isn’t it ironic…

AlphaOmega ,

Every time I see an article from the verge all I can think of is Stefan and his disastrous PC Build video. The Verge lost all credibility after that for me

AlphaOmega ,

It kinda looks like a golf cart wrapped in foil

AlphaOmega , (edited )

If you are on windows 10 or earlier ,you can disable those. Not sure about 11. It’s just a few powershell commands.

AlphaOmega ,

I agree, in my experience it’s usually some higher up making these dumb decisions. It happens to video games daily

AlphaOmega ,

I’ve been building sites for decades and have never used a frontend framework, just html, css, JavaScript and sometimes jQuery.

But I’m currently working on learning React because apparently it’s so popular, most full stack jobs are now requiring it.

In a perfect world I would only build the front end with Html and CSS. I like the simplicity and also the security it provides.

AlphaOmega ,

Oh man I thought I was going to have to get another mobile provider. But thank goodness it’s not about Mint mobile

AlphaOmega ,

I have an older model of this Spectre. Can confirm it looks fantastic for the price and no smart features .

I paid $200 for mine. Do not buy the Walmart version. Also this seems overpriced for this unit

AlphaOmega ,

I bought mine from Amazon, but that was probably 5 years ago. Sceptre has fallen big time since the early 2000’s, but that would be a new low for them.

AlphaOmega ,

If I was a billionaire, funding hate groups wouldn’t even be a thought. I’d be too busy traveling, partying and generally enjoying life.

You have to a miserable asshole to have a billion dollars and spend money on funding hate groups.

AlphaOmega ,

Yeah this happens to me often. Like for example, I had a dream that I had a bird. Next day I found an injured sparrow in my back yard.

I remember when I was like 5 and I would have these moments of deja vu. They happened often enough I actively tried to change one. So as I began experiencing a moment of deja vu, I tried to do something that wasn’t part of the previous dream. But as I tried to change it, the memory also changed.
Not sure how to explain it, but my memory of that event as it unfolded changed to represent me trying to change the event

For all the doubters that Linux gaming is smoother and faster. (video.hardlimit.com)

A video for any doubters that Linux gaming is better than Windows in which it DESTROYS Windows by 25% in AC Odyssey. To put it in perspective, 25% improvement is like getting a new GPU. You can save $600 and instead use something like OpenSUSE Tumbleweed for free....

Apex legends was a good 30% increase for me.

AlphaOmega ,

It was a easy 25% plus gain for me. Apex legends win 10 :1080 upscaled to 1440 AVG 93 FPS

Vs Apex Legends PopOS 1440 AVG 121 FPS

That’s a lot better than 25% when you factor in the resolution difference.

But yeah, windows is a massive resource hog

AlphaOmega ,

I don’t understand why people think 25% plus is “unbelievable”. It takes like 30 minutes to set up dual boot, just test it yourself.

I’m honestly surprised it’s not more.

I got over 25% increase in FPS, no micro stutters and I was on a higher resolution in Linux. Apex legends

AlphaOmega ,

Yeah I got worse performance on some Linux OSs. This was on PopOS. Every Linux distro will be different, I suggest sticking with the current best gaming distro… not sure what that is currently, but I think Arch was previously one of the best distro for gaming. Once you have that and proton going, you will should see a difference.

Unless your on Nvidia: in which case I hear it’s hit and miss for performance gains, I see no reason why it shouldn’t perform better in the majority of cases.

Even Microsoft uses Linux over their own products… cybersecurity-insiders.com/microsoft-uses-linux-i…

I did this for my previous phone. Used as an mp3 player, remote control, and a media streaming device. You can use the Android developer mode to disable a lot of unnecessary bloatware.

I use Musicolet for mp3s. Have about 10000 songs on my phone

With steam and proton, setup on Linux is rather simple and it works as well as windows for meost of the time. And I don’t know anything about Linux, except I get 25 to 40% more performance in almost every game

Alternative ways to run Plex?

Context; So… Just bought a brand new TV and life is good, but I should have done more research before buying it. I primarily want to use PLEX for watching media on the TV. However, due to “smart TV’s” not being smart and being rather slow because most current TV operating systems are either bloated or just riddled with...

AlphaOmega ,

I stopped using Plex a few years ago. Now I just cast the video to a Chromecast. VLC or cast via browser.
It’s not going to work for remote, but if all you want to do is cast movies to a TV, it’s a simple solution

Also as a bonus, you can cast a lot a streaming media without commercials by using an adblocker.

AlphaOmega ,

Subtitles yes. Not sure about transcoding. VLC is a pretty robust application with decades of development.

Okay - googled and yes wiki.videolan.org/Transcode/And I believe most modern browsers will support this and casting, so you can always just open the local media file with your preferred browser and cast it that way

Yeah, I was wondering why so many headlines about this, I thought he had done it a 2nd time.

Turns out his biography or something came out and this was mentioned in the book. So apparently this is to drum up attention for his book? Weird option to go with to sell a book.

‘Where ambition goes to die’: These tech workers flocked to Austin during the pandemic. Now they’re desperate to get out.::Drawn by the promise of an emerging tech hub, some tech workers who flocked to Austin found a middling tech scene, subpar culture, and scorching heat.

AlphaOmega ,

When I lived in Austin in the 90s, I would leave the windows open about 9 months out of the year. Since the early 2000s, that’s become less and less.

AlphaOmega ,

Yeah. It’s been that way for at least a decade. My dad used to use bing for reward points and was scoring an Xbox controller every 3 months or so.

AlphaOmega ,

Yeah I just read an article two days ago where he had sent out some videos via telegram showing he was still alive. Kinda surprising, then boom.

It sure didn’t take long for the Russian troll bots to show up on Lemmy
