Sorry, I am really new to the idea of the fediverse. So, it is about standartisation for social media protocols so I can interact with users on another side that uses the same standard. Does this mean if I post something on lemmy I can find it on Mastodon, or is it only certain features? I guess I dont understand how this...
Hey everyone. I really want to replace Google photos with some sort of self-hosted solution. However, I am getting overwhelmed....
I know every distro has its own package manager, some of them share the same package manager, you can even install other package managers....

I read The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, and take enjoyed it. Read another book, then started reading Devil and the Dark Water by the same author. I got about 25% through and just decided to drop it for something else. I’m not an avid reader so i never know if I should stay committed or not.
I am in self hosting for a bit now, have an unraid server and a bunch of services running. Now I want to expose some services through a reverse proxy, but with authentication, preferably google oauth2. I’ve tried a lot of things, Authentik, Authelia, NPM, and so on. I found everything way to complicated. What I liked the most...
It’s Thursday, one of the worst days of the week. Not yet the weekend, but we’re already tired....
I’m looking to getting back into VR gaming. However, with my switch to Linux, that has made things a little more complicated. I don’t own a Valve Index (although I’ve heard that there are some issues with the Index on Linux), I own a Rift CV1. As far as I’m aware, the Oculus Rift is pretty much completely incompatible...
Ever since LemmyWorld went down in the hacking, I haven’t been able to log in using the account I created there. I do the login thing, and the little pop-up says “Logged In” but I’m not. I can’t see my Subscribed feed, I can’t comment or post. And I couldn’t ask this question! I also couldn’t start fresh because...
So, I’ve found that there are a lot of ways to backup a server and anything on it, but I’m somewhat at a loss for what to use to backup everything else to that server....
I have a low power NAS (~35W) and I want to buy an UPS (uninterruptible power supply) to keep things running. The problem is most UPS for well known brands have an idle power usage (even without load) greater than 20W. It’s comprable with the NAS + HDDs + Network equipment…...
I want to self-host lemmy and participate in federation. However, I wonder whether it’s possible to have a setup where only I, and trusted users, are allowed to browse federated-content....
I use a download manager because when I’m directly downloading large files Firefox gets mad. I also like the feature of batch downloads. What do you guys use?...
I used Relay for reddit and would like a app that works similarly....
Hi folks, I’m just getting into this hobby thanks to the posts in this community. So far, I’ve installed Ubuntu server 22.04 on an old laptop and got paperless working, and I’m pretty pumped. Now I would like to access it outside of my home network on my phone....
What are your Background Music when Reading a Book?...
“AI” can’t replace people in any way. The most it could possibly do is assist a person in performing a task because it is a tool which does not actually have intelligence or awareness. This may be a debate but I am firmly on the side of punting Wilson the volleyball and cautioning people not to anthropomorphize a program...
Hey guys, thanks to some of you I was able to set up my lemmy instance. Its working flawlessly. But here comes my new question:...
I assume many of you host a DMS such as Paperless and use it to organise the dead trees you still receive in the snail mail for some reason in the year of the lord 2023....

I used to use Sway and I found tiling to be useful only when using multiple terminals. Tmux allows me to have tiling functionalities for terminals while having a full desktop environment for all other applications.
Hey, looking into investing into a pair or two of shoes for work. I’m in IT now but worked warehouse and restaurant jobs before this and shoes were by far the biggest qol purchase I made. My current job is pretty relaxed on “business attire” but I want some sneakers and slip ones that look professional while being comfy...
