Apple’s new iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 updates are mostly good news for users of older Apple devices—with the exception of 2018’s sixth-generation iPad, the new updates will run on all the same hardware that can run iOS 17 and iPadOS 17.
It’s a bit odd that the seventh-gen iPad makes the cutoff while the sixth-gen model does not, given that both use the same Apple A10 processor.
While this support list is fairly generous, Apple’s headlining “Apple Intelligence” AI features will be restricted to newer devices on the list.
Aside from Apple Intelligence, the company lists a few other features that require a newer device to work.
The Smart Script handwriting enhancement feature requires an iPad with Apple M-series chip or an A14, cutting out a handful of older models with A10, A12, and A13-series chips.
On the iOS side, live audio transcription, the Eye Tracking accessibility feature, and the Vocal Shortcuts accessibility feature require an iPhone 12 or newer.

So when you hover over an item usually, it shows on the bottom left/right what the link is
But in this case (edge and chrome) I see the link actively changing and like resolving or something of the sorts. Very odd. I don’t normally use these two put it was the only way I could see the sponsored links (thanks Firefox!)
Normally I’d expect just a static “this link here, goes here” rather than it changing in real time like this. Wondering if it’s normal chrome/chromium behavior or if this is an exploitation of google search functionality stemming from the google search source code leaks from earlier last week or the week prior.
To be fair the other recent one was a helicopter, which are death machines constantly at odds with gravity. I think the zeppelin is the only other worse mode of air transport. Much respect to rotary pilots, but you won’t catch me riding in a helicopter.
I did helicopter accident investigation while in the Army. Got to ride a very cool research Blackhawk, one of the first UH-60Ms, and play with a huge full motion simulator. I’ll pass on the future helicopter rides, I got my fill while in the service. Autorotation is nifty, but I’ll take the much simpler gliding of fixed wing if I want to get high in the future. I don’t want my pilot trying to remember how best to autorotate the helicopter in current conditions, while also trying to figure out what’s happening, all with relatively low altitude to get it sorted in.
If anything I’ve learned you don’t want to stack the odds against you when it comes to aviation safety. Preferring fixed wing over rotary is part of my safety considerations.
I own a long dagger/short sword. The hilt is in the design of the German eagle with its wings spread out as the hand guard and in the middle of the hand guard is a swastika. The scabbard is also adorned with swastikas on the top, mid section, and bottom....
Same boat. My partner’s grandfather had a bunch of WW2 memorabilia that their parents passed down to us. Among it are the papers of some Nazis he took off their bodies as well as other odds and ends.
It just sits in a box in our closet. It’s interesting history, but definitely not something I have any interest in displaying.
Yeah. Nobody wants to acknowledge it because they watched a youtube and define themselves by “ranked choice” (and most don’t even know the specifics of the criteria they are supporting…)
Ranked Choice makes a LOT of sense at the county and state level. Because that is where third party candidates already have good odds if they actually represent the will of the people.
At the presidential? And with electoral college nonsense? The amount of money required to run a campaign and the tendency for certain chuddy demographics to rally behind one shitstain mean that you only really have two viable parties and ranked choice, at best, is a noop. At worst it enables spoilers.
Which… is also why a lot of parliament based governments still tend to have two major parties. They just have more splitting but… we already do when you realize that AOC and Hakeem Jeffries are in the same party.
A Georgia congressional candidate convicted of a misdemeanor for illegally demonstrating inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, walked out of a televised debate with a fellow Republican on Sunday ahead of a June 18 primary runoff....
Get your centrist, we need to listen to both sides, ass out of here
Yeah, you really need to check my comment history.
Every single person who marched on the Capitol on Jan 6, whether they went inside or not, whether they engaged in violence or not, was wrong.
Some of those people were criminally wrong, to varying degrees. Again, consequences for criminal actions should be commensurate with the degree of criminality. Again, taking into account that even minor criminal offenses were in support of the entire mob.
Once we're all on the other side of this nonsense - if? - right-wing loons are still going to exist. They're still going to be citizens. We still all have to live together and move forward. I'm quite certain that there will be more, and more widespread, violence between now and then.
I don't know how to find common ground with people who reject reality, and I get real frustrated sometimes, too. (It gives me a MAGAraine.) But I also know that just giving up and taking the easy "throw them all in jail" route is counterproductive, and wholly at odds with how a fair justice system works. One of the things which separates me from them is that I want a fair justice system, regardless of who the accused is.
Does it seem odd… This is a crowd that is all about “hands off muh property”. And yet they see nothing suspicious about someone giving them a free service.
It’s better to have useful comments. Long odds are that somebody who writes comments like this absolutely isn’t writing useful comments as well - in fact, I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen it happen. Comments like this increase cognitive overhead when reading code. Sure, I’d be happy to accept ten BS useless comments in exchange for also getting one good one, but that’s not the tradeoff in reality - it’s always six hundred garbage lines of comment in exchange for nothing at all. This kind of commenting usually isn’t the dev’s fault, though - somebody has told a junior dev that they need to comment thoroughly, without any real guidelines, and they’re just trying not to get fired or whatever.
I have 3 friends that I play Civ V with weekly, in person LAN parties maybe once or twice a year. Civ 6 never caught on and I’m the youngest in the group (at 39) so I just went with it. But going by the principle that odd number Civs are good we are excited for 2025.
It’s actually fake, though. IP phones “play” that. Also, when on a call, they insert "comfort noise, that very low hiss you may hear, to augment the odd feeling most get with crystal clear VOIP audio.

The UK is going through the same thing. The Prime Minister dissolved Parliament about two weeks ago, and elections are going to be held of July 4th. (An odd choice, but apparently elections are always on a Thursday in the UK.)
And what housing there is was bought up by investment firms during 2020/21 when people were losing their jobs, or having hours cut, and now more people than ever are paying well over the odds to rent a home because they can’t get a mortgage that would likely cost 2/3 what they’re paying in rent.
But no right leaning/conservative government is going to do a fucking thing about that because too many of them are either landlords, or have funds in those investment firms. So their tame papers run stories about an immigrant family being given a seven bedroom house in a fancy part of town.
Oh cool. Good to know my memory serves me well. The original did some derpy stuff but the new AI is a train wreck in comparison. My units would run around and not attack half the time. Half my workers would go around my walls for some odd reason, while the rest would find the shorter path. It was insufferable.
I don’t know how they made it worse. How is that even possible? My standard insult was always “MS could fuck up a cup of coffee” but maybe I should change that to “MS could fuck up a cup of water!”
I really loved AoM as a kid. I guess I won’t be enjoying a slice of my childhood any time soon.
Not sure how I feel about the art style. Varric and Harding look decent, but it felt like the longer the trailer went on the more the characters turned into something out of a stylized hero shooter. Honestly, the whole trailer felt more suited to a hero shooter than a single player RPG. Hopefully the gameplay looks better, but this was a very odd way to formally reintroduce your game after ten years of scattered trailers and announcements.
Not relating to poor self control at all sounds like being dishonest with yourself or some sorta personality disorder.
Poor self control at times is like a fundamental part of being human. I’ve never met anyone who hasn’t had poor self control at times, even these “self control” guru people talk about it as something that’s always there but you need to overcome it.
People are answering what you asked but what you probably mean is in a 2d world where two antenna are perfectly in line with the transmitter will the first absorb some of the signal - yes it will, just like two wind turbines in a line it’s absorbing the energy from the medium and using it to do work.
It’s not always so simple, it might spit some of if out too if it doesn’t have anywhere else for it to go and it’ll do this in a certain pattern which can, depending on the distance and arrangement ,increase the signal received by the second one. This and similar principles are why you see so many odd shapes for antenna designs such as the many bars on a TV antenna which make it more directional.

I meant that, in his mind, he had “good intentions.” That’s where the distinction comes in, as everyone walking around with a gun, is really just waiting for their moment to “save the day.” And when you go looking for something, odds are you’ll find it. And by that I mean that they’ll assume whatever scenario their in IS their moment to “save the day,” as they ultimately ignore contrary evidence and push aside any doubts as to the situations innocence, because they want so badly to be seen as a hero that saved the day.
Dude decided to play cowboy, found himself a situation in which he saw two teenagers with what looked like weapons, ignored the fact that they weren’t attempting to conceal themselves or their “weapons,” ignored their body language and demeanor, ignored his doubts, and killed somebodys child. And that, ultimately, is going to be the fate of most people who walk around with guns, you’re going to end up hurting someone close to you, or someone entirely innocent, and then you’ll spend the rest of your life unable to sleep or rest because you decided deadly force was necessary when it absolutely wasn’t.
All Kyle had to do to not have any of that happen is not show up. The odds of that dramatically increased when he decided to show up with a gun where he knew a bunch of people, some of whom would would be armed, would be out in force and opposing his views.
Much like a lone women wandering late at night through a crime-ridden part of town getting raped, he may not have done anything wrong, but his bad judgement led to the expected consequences. And before we talk about defending his workplace, there’s a reason many places say to not try to stop robberies - the insurance claim is far cheaper than the cost of most outcomes of trying to stop the thefts, even the relatively positive outcomes.
