I have Kiwi installed and like that desktop Chrome extensions can be installed on it for the odd occasion. However, IIRC, it is updated infrequently and isn’t recommended as a daily driver.
100% its so cringe, im ok with the fantasy aspect of it, cause it does take some skill, but the odds are just straight up gambling no if ands or buts. I dont know how gamblers in recovery even watch sports anymore… so glad i got addicted to gambling on stocks with wallstreets bets and learned my expensive lesson so that sports can stay pure for me and not tainted by my addictive personality.
Vietnam was undone because they killed and brutalized the invading US soldiers until the American appetite for war turned sour. Afghanistan. Iraq.
They killed and brutalized US soldiers. The vast majority of victims on 7 October were civilians.
What Hamas did was show the Israeli public that they aren’t safe, and they did so at the same time that the Netanyahu regime was facing unprecedented public opposition from within Israeli society.
This was poignant timing, yes.
They did so at a time when the US government had no House Speaker or can easily solve it.
This was mostly luck, although there some remote possibility of a wider conspiracy.
They did so at a time when the West was occupied with an endless war in Ukraine and brinkmanship with China over Taiwan.
I give 50/50 odds on whether this was coincidence or not. Suffice it to say, the main reason for the timing is almost certainly to do with Netanyahu - who has previously promoted support of Hamas.
Hamas has actually seriously damaged the occupation with this attack. Will you acknowledge this?
I acknowledge that the strike was incredibly effective, moreso than even the people doing it thought it would be. But I feel like the strike was ultimately more in pursuit of indirect political objectives rather than military objectives. In that sense, it has arguably served Israel more than it has served Palestine - Palestine is under seige, likely to lose land, Netanyahu is still in power and while the polls put Netanyahu down they aren’t driving meaningful change. It could still swing either way though, we won’t know until much later.
One thing I can say about Minnesotans is that we’re culturally odd.
We’ll take care of eachother, but don’t expect pleasant hellos and conversations with anyone. There are a lot of people that hunt, not a lot of people that hunt well or frequently. The Mall of America isn’t as awesome as when you were a kid. The death of Prince was a State Tragedy. To outsiders, no, Minnesota does not consist of Duluth, the Twin Cities, and snow filled cornfields. Yes it’s too damn cold. Yes it’s too damn warm for this time of the year. No we won’t quit complaining either way. Say yes to lefsa. Always safe with a caserol at a dinner party.
Never state something in a way that conveys your opinion or feelings too strong. That’s rude. Never stand too close to or facing straight towards people in a conversation. That’s rude. Don’t get too involved. That’s rude.
Do smile and raise a hand when you see someone you might know, or someone who does it to you regardless if you can identify them or not.
Skol!
Edit: So I asked my brother, and while he too was aware of hotdish being the correct entrée for a combination of ingredients baked in a pan, he also defaults to caserol. I think it’s because our parents and extended family do not live here. For those confused, tater tot hotdish != tater tot caserol

This is actually not good stats. In the general population, the current situation with prions is that they are extremely rare. But that's for the general population. If you are around brain eaters then your risk for exposure is exponentially higher. For example, the odds that a person from the general population is exposed to HIV is relatively low. But if you instead only focus on people that live in smack houses in an abandoned part of detroit, then those people have much different odds.
The problem with prions is literally fucking everything though. There is a reason they will wipe out thousands of cows if they find out even one has prion disease. First is time. They usually do not show symptoms for a long long time. Next, is prions are damned near impossible to get rid of. So you're hanging out with brain eaters, but you aren't eating brains? But did you use their forks? Because the dishwasher isn't getting rid of that prion. Goddamn medical autoclaves do not get rid of them. I know someone that was participating in a neurosurgery, and after a couple days after the surgery, they found out the patient had a prion disease (probably Creutzfeldt–Jakob but I don't recall for sure). Well that caused havoc because of possible exposure and the lag time between the surgery and finding out. They destroyed a lot of things, had intense decontamination for others, had to inform some people in the hospital about possible exposure. Even with the low risk, just imagine being one of those people. For the next 20 years, the thought is probably just lingering in the corner of their brain that a dumbass protein that couldn't follow directions and decided to make its own rules is also lingering around a corner of their brain.
But yeah, cannibalism in general tends to lead to increased rates of disease and new diseases. Which is logical. Most diseases aren't interspecies, but if you are eating the same species then you can catch anything that has lingered. Parasites, bacteria if you like your human flesh medium rare, viruses, and prions. So I highly suggest against hanging out with cannibals.
Sure, my comment is directly aimed at a comment stating Valve would basically brick your steam account for this, though. It’s disinformation I’ve seen at too many places this week or oddly enough. While Valve as the CS2 publisher preemptively told players they would unban people once their dlls were normal again.
Ikr. The phone was supposed to be the screen in the middle (docked), but I couldn’t figure out how to tell that to the AI so it kept adding the extra phone plugged in via (very odd) cables.
…the next pick to the people who saw you pick the “winner”. Now half of those people see one team, the other half see you pick the other team, and whoever saw you pick the winner thinks you’ve got a 100% accuracy rate over two games. You could do that for a while and then offer to sell your pick for the Superbowl....
Not necessarily half them. You can inform your guess by looking at sports betting odds. Maybe a weak team is playing against a strong one? Then your split could be 30/70 instead of 50/50
I’m going to ignore your “Planned Usage” section. Why? Because that’s more-or-less about which software you install, not about the distro (well, not if you choose a well-enough maintained distro at least). If it was a question of family of OSes (windows, mac, linux, BSD) that might be different.
You want Debian, here’s why:
I’d like an OS that’s highly configurable
That’s most distros
but ships with good default settings
That’s Debian. I installed it when i was still a newbie to computers in general, and it hasn’t bit me in the ass yet.
and requires very little effort to start using.
See previous answer.
I don’t want it to ship with loads of applications; I want to choose and install all of the higher level tools.
My first Debian was a headless install on my laptop so I could customize the graphical stack. In hindsight, I wouldn’t recommend going that barebones unless you actually do take advice and RTFM. I went without a compositor for several years, as an example of why.
Shipping with a configured desktop is perfectly fine but not required.
On the flipside, Debian has GNOME, Xfce, KDE Plasma, LXDE and MATE as installer options. You can also install any Desktop Environment that works on linux, as it is more higher-level software than OS-dependent software.
Ideally, I can have all of this while still keeping the maintenance low.
My other PC is also a Debian (need that on a bumper sticker). It’s my daily driver desktop (the aforementioned headless install is a laptop); I set it up based on installer defaults and have not had to do any low-level maintenance on it for the past 2 years that I’ve had it.
I think that means a stable OS,
Debian is stable af. The downside is that they don’t really have bleeding-edge software on the default Stable repository. Testing is newer, and still 99.9% stable, but also not the absolute newest. Unstable lives up to its name, I’m told, but haven’t felt bold enough to experiment.
Really though, I’m going to guess that any fixed-release update cycle distro will be as stable as Debian, and any rolling release will be about squashing compatibility issues to make sure you can have bleeding edge software. There are some distros that strike a balance more in the middle of those two, so that’s up to your preference and you should probably try out a few before you settle for what someone on the internet says is “The Best.” (The main difference between the others and Unstable is that Unstable is a rolling release, instead of fixed)
a good package manager, stable/automatic updates, etc.
Apt is mostly a positive experience. As I mentioned, before, using thr Stable repository will ensure updates are stable and don’t break compatibility. I have never had the Pacman experience of not being able to update because there are unresolvable conflicts; the few times I had issues, they were simple enough to fix with a dpkg --configure -a and/or apt --fix-broken install. It can be slow, but frontends like Nala have made that less of a dealbreaker for me.
Last bit. Open source is rather important to me. I prefer free and free.
Debian’s core driving principal is FOSS. You definitely can still download and run non-free software on it, and there’s even a small section of the main repository that includes non-free sofrware, but the primary guiding principles of the Debian repository are the Debian Free Software Guidelines. Note that these principles are more restrictive than the FSF’s definition of Free Software, but the most part there is a large overlap.
The wiki isn’t as likely as Arch to come up in searches if you just search terms like “linux [software]” or “linux [issue]”, but it’s an invaluable resource, almost as thorough as Arch’s, and the Debian Project’s recommended way for ensuring accuracy to your system.
Finally: I’m going to do that annoying thing nerds online do and tell you that you asked the wrong questions, then answer the questions they claim you should have asked. The linux community as a whole supports and encourages experimentation. You’ll find your journey more fulfilling as a whole if you go outside your comfort zone and try new things, do it differently instead of sticking to recommendations and what you know. I know this message is at odds with how much I’ve talked up Debian, but I was answering the questions you asked.
The truth is that your tools should suit you and your needs and your style of problem solving. All softwares, including the most basic parts of an OS, are tools and therefore benefit from trying different options. Do you want “eh this is okay enough to get the job done” or “this is a fun and fulfilling way to complete projects”?
omg, is this for real? weird how recent conspiracy rumbling about gvmnt taking away gas stoves may have been covering for a real conspiracy. First I’ve read about benzene in stove fumes. Like cooking w/gas
This conversation reminds me of my grandfather. I wonder what he would think of this subject and the addition of induction for cooking.
Cooking on wood was his choice no matter the house modern or rustic, he would install a wood cookstove. He grew up logging and working in remote logging camps. There was no gas or electricity to choose from then.
He use to cook up great breakfasts every day. He hated electric stoves as he said they would only heat up the middle of his large frying pans. There was one that exploded on him. The pans were quite large, dwarfing the large element on a electric stove.
Thinking back it would be odd seeing a woodstove next to a unused electric stove. Anyways Swedish Crepes were his thing. The woodstove was a even heat for him he said. The best heat you could ever get in his mind. My grandmother use to also bake in this stove. He was good at controlling the heat for her.
When they retired to his cabin he built, his wood cookstove also had a water jacket for hot water tank. (there was no power grid). That stove was running from 430am to 6or 7pm at night every day. Then there was the regular woodstove to heat the main area of the cabin. It was only in his last years that he had to accept a propane cookstove in the kitchen for his new wife to cook on in the summer as the days were getting pretty hot to run a woodstove. She also wanted hot water at all times so a propane hot water tank came in the deal. He use to cook a little on the propane stove but wood was always his first choice.
The problem is that the industry has already made replacements and the replacements were bad too. Gen X was a replacement for PFOS and PFOA, all 3 are PFAS compounds. Either we have to completely abstain, greatly limit usage, find a magic way to treat it, or replace it. Odds are whatever wonder replacement we invent will be found to be the next super bad thing in 20 years.
“Along with the very real and violent war on the ground – there is also a fierce information war. Like Tuesday’s explosion at the Gaza hospital which Hamas says killed hundreds of people....
Would it be better if they did what Hamas does instead and just strike without a warning?
I find it odd that you think warning before hand so that people can evacuate is bullshit. They didn’t need to do that, but they still go thru the effort to minimize civilian casualties.
Well I still think it is a bit odd that you can’t really explain why canthidium left your team. It’s obvious there is more to this that you try to deflect from answering by going on about how everyone or everything else is the problem but you. And from canthidium’s comments back then it looks like he just didn’t want to deal with you anymore and that seems credible. Canthidium has some cooking related communities and they seem very chill.
And tell me, which of the defederation decisions didn’t you agree with?
