I’ve had a great time playing some of the ‘smaller’ games lately: Dredge (adore this game so much), Dave the Diver, Cloudpunk, Stray, Octopath II, Observer....
I haven't beat all of them but Dig 1 and 2 are definitely way shorter than I wanted (I'd pay full price for an endless mode DLC lol).
Except Hades, Supergiant games aren't super long. Bastion and Transistor are decent, and Pyre might be a little longer but is pretty unique.
I'm interpreting your list of games as semi-casual with a strong unique flavor. The messenger is a little harder than the others but still not super long.
While Baldur's Gate 3 is being widely celebrated by fans and developers alike, some are panicking that this could set new expectations from fans. Good.

Transistor comes to mind. There’s comic violence so take that into account but the story really is awesome. I finished it over Christmas a few years ago and has stuck with me. It’s from the studio who went on to make Hades.
I just finished Sekiro, worked flawlessly. Currently replaying Hades without issue. I’ve been gaming on PopOS with an 3080 for at least 18 months and its my only workstation. I don’t even have a dualboot to Windows
It seems that everything turned into scams, aggressive self marketing and just click bait irrelevant content. I liked finance videos, but every creator sounds like “the world will end soon” or “my secret method to make 1 million per week day trading stocks/forex/crypto.”...
Roguelikes tend to be very good for this. They let you play and have complexity from emergent situations, not an overload of controls.
It’s old, but if you haven’t played “enter the gungeon” pick it up! Hades is fun and well written, there is a lot of text but it doesn’t feel like an interruption. Honestly the other games from that studio fit that description.
If you like puzzle games, everything by zachtronics is both great and very difficult. Magnum Opus is probably the best entry point, but space chem is what I started with and it’s still my true love.
I expected to hate the souls games, mostly because of how irritating the fans are (“it’s so hard!”, “Get good!”, ect) but they are great games. They aren’t nearly as hard as everyone makes them out to be. I’m 40, so I started playing games when dying meant losing all progress, so I see the death penalty of dark souls as normal. What no one talks about is how changing your weapon changes the game drastically, to the point that stats on weapons don’t really matter, it’s all move sets.
I also love Factorio, dwarf fortress and EUIV, but I think that’s a personal failing I have to work on.
I miss the specific game subs, like Elden Ring, Satisfactory, Hades, etc. I don’t think we have the population yet to have subs like these with lots of content posted each day.
Its not your age, it’s the games you’re playing. There’s a ton of great games out right now, but if you’re playing the same kinds of games you’ve always played, maybe you’ve outgrown them. You could be frustrated with their mechanics, or think their progression isn’t as good as the old games, maybe you cant see as well or grind as hard as these twelve year olds on adderall, whatever it may be.
Try playing games you enjoyed before. You’ll probably still like them. Branch out into different genres, even if it’s something you don’t know if you’ll like or not. I don’t care for top down games, but gave Hades a try and absolutely loved it. Maybe try to play remakes/remasters/new takes on old games. The REmakes for Resident Evil (particularly 2&4, I liked 3 but it gets a lot of deserved hate), and even the continuation of the RE franchise in Biohazard and Village are fun and scary. Just some recommendations. :)
Seconded… I take roguelite breaks after every other game I play… Hades, Slay the Spire, Monster Train, Griftlands, and Little Noah have been sort of relaxing to me.

That’s fine, but there are a ton of non pixel art indie games: Hollow Knight, Spiritfarer, Hades (+ the other games by SuperGiant), Death’s Door, A Hat in Time, Outer Wilds, GRIS, Bramble The Mountain King… I could add at least 10 more great games to this list. But indie games exist in all styles.
I am not from america but our youth imported your moral/ethical/politics discussion shit on games. And it is so anoying. As if any company would care about moral integrity. Have you noticed that most companies which supported pride month with a little rainbow icon did not in all the countries where this is suppressed and forbidden?
The whole purpose of most companies is to gain money. And they will do whatever is necessary and legal in countries they operate in. And it is a own “discipline” called localization to exactly knowing about their possiblities 🤷🏻♂️ And like others said: most companies are up to no good. Energy, gas, food, clothes, cars… Pharma…
My advice #1: play the games, pay as less as possible. My advice #2: The field of indie games is great. I rarely play AAA. But I also just care about gameplay and don’t like stories in games anymore.
Some cool games: dead cells, children of mortar, ember knights, mario kaizo hacks, path of exile (is not indie anymore but great anyways), brotato, cassette beasts, cosmoteer, rimworld, elite dangerous, hades, rogue legacy 2, noita, stardew valley, subnautica, super meat boy and so far and so on 😉
These are all a little broad. Hand drawn like darkest dungeon, Hades, or like Cuphead? 3D as in realistic or low poly?
Art style should go hand in hand with game thematics. Celeste’s precise platforming goes well with it’s pixel art style, and if they made another version with very high fidelity 3D graphics it would likely hinder gameplay. Likewise, Hollow Knight would lose much of its charm if it went 8 bit pixel art.
All that being said, low poly art can look really good but can also feel really cheap. The same for low bit pixel art. Those aren’t deal breakers for me, but if I was judging purely based on art direction, I would (probably) vote those out.
Edit: Almost forgot, I’d probably lean towards hand drawn for most desirable as it can look very, very good and is usually highly unique.
I don't know why people are downvoting you (if that's what it's called here). I LOVE Hollow Knight, probably one of my favourite games, but I can understand it's not for everyone. I had a similar reaction to you with Hades, which made me realise I don't enjoy Roguelikes and Roguelites, no matter how popular and beautiful they are.
Edit: Ah I just realised it's because we're in an instance for board games. My bad!
I am not a regular gamer, but once or twice in the week I am indulging in some after work gaming. Mostly I enjoy games that are either story rich to put different thoughts in my mind or games with a simple, but enjoyable gameplay (not too much micromanagement)....
I don’t have any specific games to play after work. I just play whatever I’m enjoying most. Currently, that game is baldurs gate 3. I haven’t played anything else since Thursday. Before that, it was Spiritfall. It’s a roguelite with brawlhalla/smashbros type combat fused with hades’ blessings power ups. It’s still in early access but it’s pretty polished, and a lot of fun. I was also playing risk of rain 2 from time to time but boy does it take a while to get good at that game…

Looking for games with strong female leads for my daughter (even just to watch as I play). Came across this link, but they're a bit age-inappropriate. Any suggestions from the community? (gameranx.com)
Edit: Daughter is only 5 so she’s unlikely to play much but she watches me and as long as it’s not too violent, it should be fine
