We’ve got two big sales going on, and I’m currently deciding what I would like to pick up. I’m planning to get Expeditions: Rome since it’s 60% off, and I’m trying to decide if I want to finally get Terra Invicta....
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Dying Light, and Hades. $10 a piece on Steam.
I put a ton of hours into Bloodstained RotN when it was on gamepass, but never beat it. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a game I end up replaying every few years, so I really enjoyed its spiritual succesor back then (around when it first released), and they’ve only added more content (three new playable characters, a few game modes) to it over time.
For Dying Light, I love the Dead Rising series, but the moment to moment moving around is nothing to write home about. Dying Light has a focus on movement, and got a lot of good reviews, so I figured I’d give it a try.
For Hades, I’ve always loved Supergiant Games since their first game, Bastion, and I never picked up Hades because it was never priced low enough when I had money to burn. Now that Hades 2 is in early access, I watched some gameplay of that and the first shot up on my list to buy. I’ve been craving an isometric real time combat game too.
Dying Light’s gameplay is pretty good, but I like immediately got a mod to fix the idiotic weapon break system. It’s the extremely tiresome “Your hammer breaks after hitting 20 zombies” system plus “you leveled up! now you can use a better hammer with bigger numbers!”. Easy enough to mod to taste.
The story, however, is kind of bad. You don’t really get any choices, which is fine, but what happens is not satisfying. The DLC is also fun, but the story ending is trash. I just uninstalled it after instead of doing any of the extra bits.

Hades, on the other hand, is very good. No complaints.
If we’re ackshually things, lets cover the references to the lake of fire in the bible.
In revelations 19:20, there is the beast and the false prophet being tossed into the lake of fire.
In revelations 20:9, a bunch of people are explicitly consumed by fire from heaven. Consumed, not burned forever.
Then in revelations 20:10, the devil is added to the lake of fire with the beast and false prophet, and those three burn forever. But not the common folk.
Lastly, in revelations 20:13-15, hades and death give up their dead, and people are judged. Bad people are tossed into the lake of fire, explicitly labeled as a second death, but not mentioned as being eternal torment.
So in conclusion, the devil himself is spending eternity burning in the lake of “fire” (not lava or magma, nor is it underground, this is the apocalypse, this is happening on the surface of the planet that is being bombarded with heavenly shit), he’s not doing any torturing there. He is also not the one sending people there, and sinners don’t burn forever, they die when cast into the fire.
Hades meaning “the underworld” and not referring to the greek mythology. I believe also referred to as Sheol. It refers to just “the common grave of man” and not specifically “hell” as often depicted.
Basically, “everyone comes back from the dead.” A lot of this section has flowery prose for over describing everything. “Graves and death give up their dead” is basically just “the dead come back to live so they can be judged” (which just further illustrates that nothing happens when you are dead, because you have to be resurrected just to be judged)
bought hades 2 straight up without reviews and knowing it’s gonna be wonky early access, just because the dev has a history of honest and inspired banger games. 😎👍
keep in mind that most profiteering rats pile onto the biggest cash cow games. indie scene is better than ever these days
As someone who has never used story mode/easy mode options, I agree with you completely.
Nine Sols, Celeste, Hades. Some of my favorite ‘hardcore’ games with great stories and great difficulty options. The only result of their presence is letting more people play the games who wouldn’t have otherwise. I don’t feel like my experience is cheapened in any way if others use the options.
And even if I don’t use them now, maybe there comes a day when my hands can’t keep up anymore, and I’ll be very grateful to be able to keep participating in my favorite hobby. Just an unambiguous good imo
"[Dionysos] cut the thickest branch from a fig tree, smoothed and crafted it into a male member, fixed it to the grave, exposed his buttocks, lowered himself and inserted it. In his horniness he moved his buttocks to suffer from the wood what he had promised."

@AimeeMaroux@mythology@antiquidons It is the legend of Prosymnos.
Prosymnos is a Greek guy who helped Dionysos to go to the Hades, so that he could take his mother Semele to the stars.
In exchange Prosymnos asked to perform anal sex to Dionysos, once the god would come back from the Hades.
When Dionysos came back, Prosymnos was dead. To fulfill his promise the god invented a dildo, planted it on the tomb and masturbated with it.
A bit of a weird title, but basically what’s a game that’s more than a year old but still considered “modern” that you love? There’s no real strict definition for modern, I’d just like to see some discussion around great games that aren’t quite classics yet (but probably will be one day)....
Definitely a legit take, there are very few people I wouldn’t recommend Hades to, if only for enough playthroughs to get to the “end” of the story. Though there is so much past that
I mean, it’s no Diablo but I love the Hades games. If you’re in it mostly for the progression and build construction than you won’t have a great time, but if you’re looking for SOLID arpg gameplay they’re a good fit.
There’s a lot more focus on clean movement, it’s very much an arpg through a roguelite lens rather than an mmo or pure arpg.
A few super cheap, not-new games I've played that aren't on the main promo banner:
Aragami - $3 - Pretty challenging stealth game. The sequel is also on sale, but I hear it's more action-oriented, less stealth-oriented than the original.
X3: Reunion - $2 - Sid Meier's Mount & Blade, but in spaaaaaaace. (I've only played the sequel, X4. But this one looks kind of similar, and is two dollars.)
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six - $2.50 - Tactical FPS. Been a while since I've played it. Was definitely cool when it came out.
While some of their language has changed, the sentiment of this latest aggressive movement is just as distressing. It’s time for the games industry to stand up to it
Almost every statement in this article is a complete lie, from the targeted harrasments to the sexism allegations and racism. Even the Hades 2 statements are completely out of context to misrepresent the problem.
Let’s go back to the beginning.
Sweet baby Ink known to extort and threaten to push their agendas into videogames, (there is a video of the CEO Kim Belair explaining how she uses threats if game companies refuse to listen to her advice) was never targeted by harassment. A steam group was made that lists all games they’ve been involved with. (SBI already does the same on their own website). Never did anyone in this steam group go out of their way to harass anyone involved with the company. It is just a group of people who don’t like this company and want to avoid buying games that they are involved with.
Then suddenly one of SBI employees started a harassment campaing against the steam group owner, and tried to get him banned from steam altogether despite no wrongdoing. He never retaliated, and instead just defended his own points.
In comes the game journalist allyssa Merchante who has historically made bigoted statements such as “you can’t be racist against white people” and starts spreading lies of a harassment campaign against SBI. People call her out, and now suddenly she’s a victim of harassment despite she being the one contacting people’s workplaces to get them fired, or phonecalling their partners in an attempt to shame.
The controversy around Hades 2 is not around square jaws, but rather, linked to the smear campaign gaming journalists have had against stellar blade, citing sexism. People were upset that gaming journalists were being hypocritical with titles like “Hades 2 Gods somehow hotter than Hades gods” while they also criticized Stellar Blade for its sexy main character claiming it appeals to white males and that it is problematic.
Ubisoft being in bed with SBI is also not a lie, as SBI officially lists Ubisoft as their customers. The new assassins creed game is another example of these same journalists spreading misinformation.
Being a retainer does not automatically make you a samurai, and playing African-American hiphop music when playing as an African is incredibly stereotypical and innacurate since Africans and African-Americans aren’t the same thing. Game journalists claim white people are just upset about there being a black character in the game (with no evidence). The game is disrespectful towards japanese, but to game journalists that doesn’t matter because they’re “white adjacent”.
The controversy around Wukong is entirely fabricated. The developers of Wukong were being extorted by SBI for 7m USD for advice they didn’t ask for, and when they refused, suddenly gaming journalist started digging around, and found past statements they claim are sexists. However, as it turns out, these statements were in fact mistranslated statements, and the original Chinese statements weren’t even remotely sexist. Of course once people started pointing this out, once again “look at the harassment campaign against us journalists” started again.
These articles always are quick to spin the narrative and paint journalists as innocent, but every.single.controversy. was retaliation against misinformation and harassment campaigns by game journalists and DEI companies. Never was it “a bunch of sexist and racist white people being upset about diversity in videogames”.
But of course the author of this article wouldn’t tell you that she and many of her peers like, liked and retweeted all the false statements I’m bringing up here, or that she follows SBI.
I’m playing “curse of the dead gods” right now. I wanted to scratch that hades itch while hades 2 is cooking. Pretty good, different, more random approach to the weapons system.
and a very invasive mechanic around lighting the rooms with a torch and immobile fireplaces. By default you get hit harder in the dark but there are also modifiers to give you benefits in the dark to change up the tradeoffs
I’m not sure I like it as much as Hades it’s a bit clunky but I’d recommend getting it in a sale for sure
In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Pluto was the ruler of the Greek underworld. The earlier name for the god was Hades, which became more common as the name of the underworld itself. Pluto represents a more positive concept of the god who presides over the afterlife.
