My fellow folks; do you cycle through your fixations? Right now I'm fixated on gaming so much with all these special in-game events that I've put aside language learning. I've also been really into my writing/editing, which is very awesome. But sometimes I'll switch tracks, and I'm all like, "Learn all the languages! Make all the musics! Crochet all the blankets! Read all the books...at once!!" 🤣

@cyborg_writer Special interests I cycle through that I can remember off the top of my head:

  • Touhou
  • Tetris
  • Minecraft
  • Politics, unfortunately
  • Computers

There's probably a few I missed...

The Who taught me the word "sack" in Substitute. The Stones taught me "politesse" in Sympathy for the Devil. Those guys didn't even have the internet. They were facile enough with those words to rhyme them.

Anybody today have a vocabulary?

@technology Oh, for sure, they mention the App Store fees and extensive review process, but in my opinion involving the price of the iPhone and past history of Apple is strange (and seems to make the case weaker).

Eeeeehhhhhh… you can’t really fault a company for a previously unknown hardware defect going against their stated principles. That’s like faulting the devs of OpenSSH for their principle of security because CVE-2023-38408 existed for years.

Hate on Apple for legitimate things, of which there are many.

Pulled a ~ 600 € DeLonghi coffee maker out of the dumpster and invested about 50 € in spare parts (water tank, grounds container, and a new magnet valve). Seems like I have a new coffee machine now 😁☕

(It would have gone even faster and without a puddle on the kitchen counter if I had put in the gaskets from the start. 🤦 Ah well.)

I recently replaced the heating element in my delonghi coffee machine, and was also surprised to see how wild it was inside

psud ,

I think they make too much money repairing complex coffee machines to make it difficult

Also unlike phones they don’t need to make them small as possible and able to survive being carried all day, so don’t have those reasons for making things tight and sealed

For all my fellow over sharers out there.

As a chronic people-pleaser, this is my advice for success.

Offer as little as possible. Be terse. Get rid of all those exclamation marks and tidbits about why you want to take a sick day. State your needs clearly and concisely without reason. Start saying “No, I’m unable.” more often. Say Thank You only when the other party deserves it.

They replied within 20 minutes, apologizing to ME, saying it was probably their fault, that they'd been having trouble with their computer system for days, and of course I could reschedule, was I available that afternoon? Don't ever volunteer information, kids. You never know what information the other party has, and you can always give information if asked for it later.

Grey as a mouse / big as a house. Bestiary, England 13th century. Bodleian Library, MS. Bodl. 764, fol. 12r.

ClaireFromClare ,

@medieval_illuminations : the central arms (azure, a lion rampant argent) are those of Monhaut, a family:
https://www.theheraldrysociety.com/articles/the-siege-of-caerlaverock/

The arms of Clare are unmistakeable, & Baxter (1987) suggested other heraldic allusions to Berkeley & Bohun:

This bestiary's dated to the 1240s, a time of turmoil. Marcher lords may have enjoyed dreaming of military surprise...

For context this is from a discussion I was having and I couldn't come up with an answer.

If you were say, trying to get into the dating game or wanted to meet new friends.

would you disclose before hand or early on that you were autistic? (I count Self-DX but I do realize that could change the conversation)

Like I do realize allistic people can (Subconsciously) be jerks to autistic people if they perceive a difference, and I'm wondering if that would be worse if they outright KNEW you were autistic.

Please give me some input this question is eating me up inside lol

StevenSaus ,

@lapis

Also, I go with something I learned from Dan Savage about disclosing something "odd" or "unfavorable" about yourself while dating: You disclose one thing about you; their reaction tells you everything about them.

(Also, if you're not aware, @actuallyautistic and @actuallyaudhd and others may be of help here too)
