Is Jerboa for Lemmy crashing for anyone else?

I've been using Jerboa for Lemmy for my Beehaw account since the Migration. At first it worked fine. Then I started getting an error message about the version of Lemmy being used on the instance. But for the last couple of days it has been crashing immediately on opening:

Jerboa Error Message

Is anyone else having this problem? Can anyone recommend an alternative app?

Thanks!

leds ,

Yes thanks that worked!

grumbul ,

Jerboa started crashing for me around the time they did an update that required a newer lemmy version. I've been using Liftoff and that's working pretty well so far. I'm trying to stay open to different apps because they're all pretty new and none that I've tried have been exactly what I'm looking for yet.

I read Iron Curtain by . A page-turner set in the 1980s. A young privileged 'red princess' from a poor unnamed central European country elopes to London in the name of love. The sense of displacement has echoes of the Patricia Engel book I read just before this. There's also enjoyable farce here even if the clichés about the UK are laid on a little thick at times.

Given I enjoyed Okwiri Oduor's short story in that collection so much I read her novel Things They Lost. A story of dysfunctional families and love between two girls (Mbiu Dash from the short story is one of them.) Set in a strange shifting world inhabited by wraiths. Feels like visiting a strange dream. @bookstodon

after Warhol by Richard Dorment. The story of the charlatans and grifters who ended up deciding what is and is not a Warhol. But given the artist's rather hands-off approach to his work perhaps it is fitting it ended up like this. A real page-turner. Can't remember the last time I read a book in a day. @bookstodon

It's time to call a spade a spade. ChatGPT isn't just hallucinating. It's a bullshit machine.

From TFA (thanks @mxtiffanyleigh for sharing):

"Bullshit is 'any utterance produced where a speaker has indifference towards the truth of the utterance'. That explanation, in turn, is divided into two "species": hard bullshit, which occurs when there is an agenda to mislead, or soft bullshit, which is uttered without agenda.

"ChatGPT is at minimum a soft bullshitter or a bullshit machine, because if it is not an agent then it can neither hold any attitudes towards truth nor towards deceiving hearers about its (or, perhaps more properly, its users') agenda."

What a load of BS hahahaha. LLMs are not conversation engines (wtf is that lol, more PR bullshit hahahaha). LLMs are just statistical autocomplete machine. Literally, they just predict the next token based on previous tokens and their training data. Stop trying to make them more than they are.

You can make them autocomplete a conversation and use them as chatbots, but they are not designed to be conversation engines hahahaha. You literally have to provide everything in the conversation, including the LLM previous outputs to the LLM, to get them to autocomplete a coherent conversation. And it’s just coherent if you only care about shape. When you care about content they are pathetically wrong all the time. It’s just a hack to create smoke and mirrors, and it only works because humans are great at anthropomorphizing machines, and objects, and …

Then you go to compare chatgpt to literally the worst search feature in google. Like, have you ever met someone using the I’m feeling lucky button in Google in the last 10 years? Don’t get me wrong, fuck google and their abysmal search quality. But chatgpt is not even close to be comparable to that, which is pathetic.

And then you handwave the real issue with these stupid models when it comes to search results. Like getting 10 or so equally convincing, equally good looking, equally full of bullshit answers from an LLM is equivalent to getting 10 links in a search engine hahahaha. Come on man, the way I filter the search engine results is by reputation of the linked sites, by looking at the content surrounding the “matched” text that google/bing/whatever shows, etc. None of that is available in an LLM output. You would just get 10 equally plausible answers, good luck telling them apart.

I’m stopping here, but jesus christ. What a bunch of BS you are saying.

Horn of Balance - an indie 2D zelda-like

I'm developing 'Horn of Balance', a 2D zelda-like featuring 12 non-linear dungeons, 2 interconnected worlds and a TON of secrets.

Right now, the project is live on Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hornofbalance/horn-of-balance) and we've almost hit the funding goal with just 24 hours left!

There's also a free demo on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2738140/Horn_of_Balance/) and Itch.

I'm happy to answer any questions you might have!

What games would you suggest that have LAN support these days?

While PC may be one's first thought here, I'd also be really interested in any mobile games that might leverage one's local wifi network for multiplayer.

Classics are a-okay for suggestion too, btw!

I can give input. I will try to be civil but bear in mind I have the same strong emotions you expressed on the podcast, & feel Gaslit Nation, President Biden, and most Democrats - (yeah I'm not even considering Republicans, they'll have a terrible take) are gaslighting Palestinians.

US Rep Rashida Tlaib is about the only one who made a decent statement in the US.

She even uses "cycle of violence" and STILL doesn't f*ck it up like everyone else.
Grieving lives lost. Necessary. Emphasizing shared humanity. Check. Occupation and apartheid are to blame. Facts. And it offers hope or gives actions to take to fix it - 1. End US aid for apartheid government (i would argue defund the Pentagon and US war machine too...) 2. End the occupation and dismantle apartheid system.

There's also a Palestinian contemporary art group on Facebook - look for the Palestinian artists, writers, intellectuals. Find out what's going on before going on and on about support for an occupier.

Someone in the other place got me onto sharing 1 randomly selected kindle book a day from my enormous collection. Here are my first three.

The Conductors by Nicole Glover is superb. Magical, mystery, historical & a romance all rolled into a fantastic package.

The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge is a nordix YA horror & it's fantastic.

A Spirited Tail by Leighann Dobbs is book 2 in the cozy Mystic Notch series & features cats who talk to each other & an oblivious ghost-seeing MC.

I switched from a Nokia with unofficial LineageOS to GrapheneOS, simply because I need this level of security to feel safe.

@selfhosted I self-host a few services on my box, but I'm looking for a 'dashboard' like solution to use as a portal to click to each of those. I've seen this before, but can't for the life of me remember what it's called... suggestions? :debian: :linux:

magnus ,

I liked the look of Dashy, but it felt somewhat too heavy software for the simple dashboard I needed, and so I wrote the first version of Dashie.

It only uses Javascript and doesn’t need any server components except a webserver. Configuration is done by editing YAML files.

Themes are implemented, and multiple pages which can be used to make more complex navigation of multiple dashboards.

Check it out :)

I use Heimdall. You can set it up in no time with docker compose and manage it all through the web interface after that.

Its simple but also has some neat integrations with certain apps and will give live stats for certain things. Like pihole gives you live stats on what’s being blocked for instance.

I see. Well for me too, Xorg offered all the features I need and is still more well supported than Wayland in some areas, but on my system Wayland has so much better performance. On Xorg I was having mouse lags, on Wayland it's just smooth.
