I'm creating an extra credit question and I'm mocking up studies that sound good in media reporting but when you look closer, they're heavily flawed. I already did a scenario of teen social media and mental health. Suggestions for others that would be covered as causal in media?

Went to the African-American history and culture museum yesterday - everyone should. Despite what I imagine some people believe, it’s not just violence and trauma porn, it’s a lot of day to day normal stuff on the upper floors. My wife wondered where the slavery and Jim Crow stuff was, but it occurred to me that it would probably be concentrated somewhere else in the building - excessive focus on slavery and trauma is a complaint I’ve heard about cultural stuff usual made for white audiences.

Probably the most informative exhibit (“favorite” sounds wrong) was the segregated train car. You really get a sense of how petty and cheap the racists were - the Black bathrooms are tiny (about the size of airplane ones now), white ones have a “lounge” area, which is weird, but regardless of how weird it was they had more space. Plus you couldn’t use the suitcase storage areas unless you were white, which is just ridiculous.

If I get a chance to go back I’ll have to see if they’ve got a Wilmington 1898 exhibit and what they have about COINTELPRO-related fuckery. Probably the single most horrifying thing in there is the child-sized shackles, but there’s also plenty of stuff in there that isn’t evil or soaked in blood.

Incredible Adventures

Algernon Henry Blackwood British writer of tales of mystery and the supernatural died in 1951. His two best-known stories are probably "The Willows" and "The Wendigo". Though Blackwood wrote a number of horror stories, his most typical work seeks less to frighten than to induce a sense of awe. via @wikipedia

Still trying to figure out who in my family is neurodivergent and how.
Seems like there is a pattern emerging: If both parents are neurodivergent, chances for the kids to be is at almost 100%. If only one parent is, chances seem to be about 50/50.
Anyone know if there are actual studies on that or is there just not enough data from past generations?

shannonpersists ,
@shannonpersists@mastodon.social avatar

@HaelusNovak @btaroli @looneybyron @pathfinder @actuallyautistic I get that you guys are talking about Autism I know mine's not the same neurodivergency but there are some parallels forgive me if I'm cutting in with a different topic.

@btaroli @looneybyron @pathfinder @actuallyautistic

no, and it's actually the other way round: if it's not recessive, in other words, dominant, it can be selected against very easily.

If a gene is recessive, it's very hard to get rid of unless you have genetic tests for it. (example: hens laying eggs with a fishy smell. That's a recessive gene defect affecting an enzyme, it's a simple Mendelian trait, and pretty much impossible to get rid of in a flock. I think they may have blood tests now).

Hello everyone! Just joined this group; only recently joined the fediverse itself and confirmed that, yes, I'm more than a lil' autistic.

It's wonderful to have finally found my people. Been looking for y'all all my life.

Hi Uair, welcome and thanks for the follow! I don't know what you mean by "group" but yes, this online community has been amazing for me, too. It's really like finding one's people 💛

There are some good hashtags to follow, like , and also a pretty active group, @actuallyautistic

We've had so many interesting discussions, sometimes lively, but only very rarely did I feel the need to block someone.

Great to have you on board!

@nellie_m @Uair @instance@relay.fedi.buzz @actuallyautistic not sure either - and now I'm nervous. I thought the whole place was, I mean the site name says "neurodifferent dot me." I haven't been hashtagging, I've just been talking as though everyone is Autistic, letting it all hang out, as we used to say. 😬

@renwillis yes! It is a beautifully heartfelt game that I loved to death (and god bless it for bringing back action commands). After you beat it, I highly recommend going through enough of the post game to get the true ending. It is very worth it!

It's now my go-to rec for anyone who wants to get into JRPGs and the like but has trouble playing older games like Chrono Trigger

@catgirlfingies I really liked Silent Hill 3 and Fatal Frame. Hill 3’s spooky atmosphere and plot was great. I became a fan of the franchise immediately after I played it. As an aside: I was SO bummed when they cancelled Kojima’s Silent Hill project 😭.

Fatal Frame had a cool ghost-fighting mechanic. It was like Pokémon Snap but with higher stakes. Taking a good shot meant that you weren’t going to die fighting a particular ghost 😄.

And yes, I played lots of horror games back in the day of PS2. I don’t play a lot of them nowadays because I only have a Switch now as my main console, and I’ve been prioritizing first-party games (no horror there!). I did play Luigi’s Mansion 3; does that count? 😄

Major Update:

  • Added to install and uninstall scripts

    • Support for Librewolf, Mullvad, and Tor browsers

I have not tested Mobile-Friendly-Firefox with these browsers yet, as I am waiting for official arm64 releases before installing them onto my Librem 5. While I think that everything should work, anyone can share issues here on the fediverse, on my Mobile-Friendly-Firefox repo, or on my forum thread. I'll try to check all three from time to time so I don't miss anything.

Minor Update:

  • Added to install and uninstall scripts

    • Support for Librewolf flatpak

I have tested and confirmed that it works perfectly.
