I copied 2TB of data on an exfat disk from a dying Mac. Then on Windows this data is (almost) missing (discuss.tchncs.de)

I have an old mac with a dying hfs hdd with failing SMART. I copied 2tb of data on an exfat drive but windows only sees only 3 directories and 80gb. Where’s my other stuff? Now after I did that long copy session that lasted a whole day, the disk died from stress and the mac doesn’t boot anymore. Even if it boots, i don’t...

Is there a free tool that connects people who want to carpool on their commutes?

I drive on my commute to work. I wouldn’t mind offering a free ride to people who are going the same direction as I am. The public transportation system is not very good where I live, so I would guess a lot people would be interested. Is there some kind website or app where I can write where and when I’m going, so people who...

Is there a way I can reinstall Linux Mint without messing up my Windows Partition?

Long story short I was messing around in the terminal and messed up my Linux Mint Installation and now when I boot into Linux I only get a CLI and don’t even see the Linux mint logo. I tried to restore to a previous state using Timeshift but it did not work so I ended up taking a live usb and backing up all my important...

[Solved!] Trying (failing) to use MS Word wildcards to detect any two capitalized letters, and insert a space between them...

Follow-up to this thread - this is way more specific, so hopefully worthy of its own thread. I think wildcards are the best option for my skill level (basically none), and have gotten a good chunk of what I wanted to accomplish done with those....

Your browser seems to be blocking ads (lemmy.world)

Hello everyone. Very recently I started using perchance.org website for generating AI image from text prompt. But the problem I can’t use this website normally: a window “Your browser sends to be blocking ads” keeps popping up saying that my browser is supposedly blocking ads. But anyway I don’t actually use any ad...

[urgent] windows 10 isn't installing on my laptop

So, a few months back, my sister accidentally dropped the laptop and for some reason, it wasn’t booting up anymore. When i tried to watch YouTube videos and try to do stuff in bios, like changing boot mode and stuff, it said “no recoverable boot device found” so I figured that I’ll have to install windows 10 again. I did...

Creating a home cloud storage network?

Hello! I am interested in creating my own cloud storage network, but I have to idea how to even start it. It’s just for myself, mainly pictures and videos. Ideally what I would like to do is be able to manually and/or automatically upload pictures and videos from my phone to my home cloud storage. I have Xfinity as my service...

Windows Shares Inaccessible after Network Reconfiguration

I recently encountered an error with my router that required a factory reset in order to fix. I figured since I was already resetting everything, I’d might as well reorganize my network. I switched from 192 to 10 based IPs. I got all my devices configured and everything connects to the internet fine, no hiccups anywhere,...

Need a USBC to USBC/3.5mm jack splitter

Bought a pair of Sennheiser 560s for my computer but I’d like something to plug them into my phone. Of course, my phone doesn’t have a headphone jack (fuck you Google) so I need an adapter. I’d prefer one that allows me to charge and plug my headphones in at the same time, but I can’t find one that seems decent quality....

Computer won't sleep properly on Windows nor Linux. (EDIT: Actually, it's working on Windows but not Linux now, for seemingly no reason)

Edit for anybody who finds this post later: It was an Ubuntu specific issue. Swapping it for Fedora has allowed sleep to work perfectly. I suspect the Ubuntu kernels have an issue with certain motherboards....
