[urgent] windows 10 isn't installing on my laptop

So, a few months back, my sister accidentally dropped the laptop and for some reason, it wasn’t booting up anymore. When i tried to watch YouTube videos and try to do stuff in bios, like changing boot mode and stuff, it said “no recoverable boot device found” so I figured that I’ll have to install windows 10 again. I did that, created a usb installation media, and inserted it in my laptop. It’s been 3 hourse, and it’s just showing blank screen. When I put the usb stick in, it showed a windows logo and then it turned blank. I’ve been waiting for 3 hours and I’m getting kinda worried now. Any advice? My laptop has 1tb HDD, 4 GB RAM and Intel Pentium.

Open up the laptop and make sure the cable is still attached to your hard drive. Unplug and then replug it to make sure the connection didn’t come unseated during the drop.

Could be something as simple as that.

Damn… Why tf did i not think of that 💀. I guess trying to study for my exam is making my brain not function properly 💀

Does the hard drive show in the bios under storage devices? If not, you are outa luck… you would need a new disk or boot from a live usb

Diplomjodler ,

You could try running a live system from a USB stick. Just make a bootable USB drive with Linux Mint or something similar and try to boot off that. If that works, at least you know your machine is working.

Korraa OP ,

I’ll try that

And then - there I said it - you can just install Mint on your PC and don’t bother with Windows at all. I’ll show myself out.

I suspect your HDD is dead or physically damaged, try get a new one and then install a windows

This would also be a good time to switch to an SSD. A 2.5" SATA SSD should fit without any problems. I’d also see if it’s possible to do a RAM upgrade. 4GB are not great for Windows 10.

Korraa OP ,

Another comment said about trying to boot off of Linux mint or something, so I’ll try that. If it doesn’t work, then I’ll have to get a new HDD or and SSD
