Hi all,...
So Podman is an open source container engine like Docker—with “full”^1^ Docker compatibility. IMO Podman’s main benefit over Docker is security. But how is it more secure? Keep reading…...
After I saw the news of Beehaw defederating from Lemmy.world I decided the best route to go would be to try and set up a self hosted instance to have the most control of my account as possible. I use Linux on the desktop but have no experience running a server. So far I’ve managed to get an instance that is able to get posts...
I have Plex, Radarr, Sonarr, Overseerr etc running in Docker containers, but have never found a good guide on how to access these (safely) from outside. I resort to connecting to a server running VNC. I’ve tried nginx but didn’t understand it, also tried Cloudflare (ditto). Is there a good, easy to understand guide on how to...
I just used the tool linked here in the documentation to create a Bootstrap theme, but I can’t find the folder they’re referencing. I’ve used Ansible to install Lemmy, which is working fine, but I’m not really sure how to handle themes as a result. Do I place them somewhere in my Ansible stuff, or is there that directory...
What’s the best way to run Lemmy on Yunohost? The Yunohost application is out of date (16.3), and I read somewhere that the image handling part of it is disabled. I also saw somewhere that it’s possible to install it with the help of Docker, but I’m pretty unfamiliar with that. I’m already using Yunohost successfully for...
Heard about his on the self hosted podcast and just installed it and it works great. Dont use the given compose file just make your own with the linuxserver image. Here’s mine and it works over tailscale and through my reverse proxy....

Hi! I want to self host lemmy on my homelab. I have a lot of services installed but only a couple of them are exposed on the internet using subpaths like host.com/plex or host.com/nextcloud....
Hello,...
My home ISP does CGNAT for IPv4, but provides native IPv6. I can use IPv6 just fine to access most of my resources, except for one specific server. I can access the server over IPv4 from my home network, and either over v4 or v6 from other networks I’ve tried. But I can’t access it over IPv6 from my home network....
I’m self-hosting the docker containers and I noticed the pictrs directory is steadily growing because of the cached images. Does anyone know if it gets cleaned up automatically or are hosters running scripts to clean it up after a certain amount of time? The install guides make no mention of it from what I can find.
In a previous post I was looking gauge folks interest on who runs Lemmy on Kubernets. Given the positive feedback I decided to make the manifests I’m using to deploy it available to anyone....
what is better for single user instance, or maybe something small like under 10 users (no communities)? which is lighter on resources? how much storage should I allocate?...
I've got readarr up and running, now I need a front end. What do y'all prefer and why?
I have T-Mobile wifi (Really great btw for $30 with my plan) but it has the big dumb cgnat. I have a plex server and you can’t stream remotely with it. I had an Oracle VPS but after my trial ran out they decided they wanted to delete it with no warning....
How do you set up a server? Do you do any automation or do you just open up an SSH session and YOLO? Any containers? Is docker-compose enough for you or are you one of those unicorns who had no issues whatsoever with rootless Podman? Do you use any premade scripts or do you hand craft it all? What distro are you building on top...
I’m trying to start out self-hosting and was looking for some good servers. I have a budget of ~100 USD and am in the US. I was initially going to get some type of raspberry pi but they seem to always be sold out here

Using JuiceSSH on my phone, I'm able to connect to my device without any problems when I'm on my home Wi-Fi. However, when off WiFi and connected to my VPN, the server doesn't connect. I'm still able to access the services it's running, but can't SSH into the server itself....
running a lemmy instance has learned me a lot about devops already!...
Hey. I really like the idea of the fediverse and Lemmy and would want to know as a beginner/not so experienced regarding selfhosting what would be the best way to get started? I saw there are vps options, but don’t know of I’m looking in the right direction.
Come on and fight me…...
Good morning /c/selfhosted!...
