Finally got my server to work properly. (Routing with custom local domain instead of ports) (programming.dev)
I spent all day today trying to get the routing to work correctly between Tailscale, Nginx and Adguard....
Why is replacement for home device controls so complicated?
I recently learned about Home Assistant here on Lemmy. It looks like a replacement for Google Home, etc. However, it requires an entire hardware installation. Proprietary products just use a simple app to manage and control devices, so can someone explain why a pretty robust dedicated device is necessary as a replacement? The...

I want to bring some attention to Slidge XMPP Bridges (git.sr.ht)
It seems like an awesome project that fulfills a lot of the requirements for bridging many popular messaging platforms (like FB messenger, WhatsApp, discord, signal, and more). I wanted to share because I know a lot of us have friends and family who still use antiquated/proprietary communication platforms. Fair warning, I have...

What to be aware of before opening port 25 on a postfix Raspberry Pi?
I have a raspberry pi running postfix. I Realised unless I open port 25 I absolutely cannot receive emails (I have 587 open and can send but not receive them). However I heard there are scaries online which someone could potentially send emails from your server without consent. I believe as well my ISP doesn’t block port 25....

PSA: Docker nukes your firewall rules and replaces them with its own.
I use nftables to set my firewall rules. I typically manually configure the rules myself. Recently, I just happened to dump the ruleset, and, much to my surprise, my config was gone, and it was replaced with an enourmous amount of extremely cryptic firewall rules. After a quick examination of the rules, I found that it was...

Does anyone know of any alternatives to hoppy.network? I can’t seem to find any other services that do what Hoppy does. (Hoppy uses wireguard to assign publicly-accessible static IPv4 and IPv6 addresses to devices)
Nextcloud Hub 8 is now available (nextcloud.com)
Thinking of building a database of "stuff" that I have at home + some other family households. Multiple accounts with private and shared inventories.
The use case is basically so that all my family members we can check that “John has an old laptop collecting dust” or “Mary has this specific tool that I’d love to use for my current project”....
