Well technically that’s not part of the compiler

TxzK ,

what if your code was so shity that it caused the compiler to segfault?

onlinepersona ,

Meta programming is capable of that. People have written entire text-driven games that run in the compiler.

Height should be a float

ParanoiaComplex ,

I don’t know Rust but jump typically moves the program counter, where the height represents the number of instructions to move

trxxruraxvr ,

Afaik rust doesn’t have functions like that as they lead to unsafe code that’s impossible to check variable lifetimes for. I think OP created the jump function.

RustyNova ,

They created it. The compiler says the jump function is in src/main.rs

It’s height in centimeters

SatouKazuma ,

But then wouldn’t it be fly(height: f64) instead of jump(height: i32)?

Never use floats.

It’s much worse to learn development while being lazy about commenting. Or adding them all just before sending your source code to the teacher.

rbits OP ,

Lol that’s exactly what this was. I wrote this python script, and he went through and added comments like this a day before the deadline.

Not trying to throw shade on him though, it’s more the university’s fault for not explaining what makes a useful comment. I just thought it was funny

I went to discord.com for looking where does it say it. I found nothing. are they really claim this?

Sonotsugipaa ,
@Sonotsugipaa@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It’s not Discord, it’s some project that has a Discord community

Fades ,

The joke is that they say they like free and open source software but then point to communicating via software that is not.

It’s a shit joke to be fair, like what, you can’t believe in open source unless you use nothing but open source? Fucking stupid

MalachaiConstant , (edited )

I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find it this explanation.

My first thought was “wait did discord saying something bad about FOSS lately?” No, nothing unusual. Must be missing something.

Turns out some people see Discord as a sort of mascot for closed source, and that is what the joke hinged on.

Edit:

Actually it’s worse than that, isn’t it? They’re seeing the coexistence of closed source as being antithetical to open source.

Good luck with that I guess.

Fades ,

Both:

</span>

Variable and class names go from more general to more particular, functions begin with a verb.

Global functions are either “main”, or start with one of “debug”, “todo”, or “shit”.
