I feel like I missed this part of internet school.
I’m majoring in CS related-field, and I used to have tons of passion for it and underlying tech, and worked as full stack dev, but my mind was very different in a good way (better at logical/cognitive demanding tasks, creative, productive, etc). Things happened, and I just can’t stand living in society, experiencing all this...
Like… what do cats think of their humans?...
I’m confused asf
I don’t want to block all nsfw content but I really don’t want to have to block every new porn community that pops up on lemmynsfw. Is there a way to block all the communities that originate at lemmynsfw?
Asking because I get reports I make, it would seem rather silly to me if I can’t report misconduct because I’m on my own instance....
Are moderators just purely altruistic? Or do they have an ulterior motive?
Something I’ve always wondered is what kind of women were in the lives of incel men when they were young. Did they have a bad relationship with their mother? Did they lack sisters or other female family members? Or is their family situation irrelevant? Maybe some particular situation in their early years caused them to develop...
I recently tried to join Mastodon, and like Twitter before it, I don’t understand the premise. You follow individuals instead of topics, and if you try to follow hashtags they change on a whim all the time so you’re unlikely to get relevant posts....
Most mature social networks do remove this information to prevent users accidentally sharing their locations. Can someone positively say whether Lemmy is aware enough to strip extra information from photos?
It is a simple line of code and the entire site does this or add target=“_blank” to every hyperlink, and it will do the same thing. It sucks that you have to right-click every link to open in a new tab or window and it is such a simple fix.
I’ve been on Beehaw and Lemmy.world for the past two weeks now and while people seem to be posting content that isn’t about Reddit or Twitter or how great federated platforms are, such content does not receive as many comments/discussion as topics about the Reddit API controversy, or the current Twitter controversy, etc....
An overwhelming majority of what we eat is made from plants and animals. This means that composition of our almost entire food is chemicals from the realm of organic chemistry (carbon-based large molecules). Water and salt are two prominent examples of non-organic foodstuffs - which come from the realm of inorganic chemistry....
Hey guys,...
In like, 2005-2010ish I remember there being these awesome online games through sites like Mini Clip. All disappeared from the internet....
After the Red Hat mess I see many people saying IBM destroys everything they touch, but I can’t think of many examples of it. Can you tell me what else IBM has destroyed after acquiring it, or something good that they themselves developed and then ruined it with stupid corporate choices?
Is there any hope? Or is it inevitable that big corporations will take over what started as a way to escape big corporate platforms and to focus on real communities and discussions and replace it with a toxic shithole pumped full of ads?
If you are at work in the middle of the night when the clocks change, do you work an extra hour in the spring and one less in the fall?
There are some brands of bicycles that can cost more than the down payment on a car. Why? Surely making a bike lightweight and reliable isn’t so difficult that it warrants that price? Is it just the brand name or maybe it has to do with customization options?
Even when I was living in a very liberal area, there were only a small handful of stores that advertised as worker co-ops. It’s funny too because those co-op stores were all incredibly popular and successful, so I don’t understand why they are so comparatively rare? The organizational structure seems simple to maintain, and...
I’ve noticed that on Lemmy there aren’t really any videos/gifs as I scroll. I just see post titles, links, or images....
I Can’t Drink Now Like I Used to a Few Years Ago (26M), is that Normal?...
I grew up during the dial up era of internet and remember how insane it was each time the technology improved, broadband, dsl, fiber etc....
Shouldn’t it be the most comfortable temperature? 🤔
I have occasional bathroom issues caused by food sensitivities (damn your delicious yet toxic nature, nacho cheese)....
